  1. So I finally got around to getting this thing mounted. Of course, the whole thing started Fuked up......as my luck would have it. My plan was to replace the original factory mount with a QD style of mount. Yep. No problem, as any of us right thinking Americans would believe. Well...........................enter the R2 luck. So, it started with me thinking that I was going to easily back out the factory hex-head screws out of the original mount. (BIG, price is right tuba "you lost" sound). The gorillas at the factory must have used super glue instead of lock-tight. I immediately stripped them out. Fuk me.....as usual. So, this would make Rob proud. I end up breaking out the dremel and cut some slots into the screws so that I can, at least, put a screwdriver on them to try and back them out. Well, me being a hermit and all, makes this a little difficult to steady this thing. Not only to slice a groove into the existing screws, but to lean my sorry fat ass into the newly ground slot with a screwdriver and try and turn the damn thing. Needless to say, here I am, placing a brand new digital optic into a vise to keep it steady. Now granted, I'm not a complete barbarian. I placed a soft towel into the vice before lowering the aforementioned optic into it and CRANKING it down to hold this bitch steady. FUK me again! So......with a squared shank screwdriver, I found myself leaning my sorry ass into this fucker (in a vise) while putting a wrench on the shank of the screwdriver and turning. Luckily, it worked and I was able to get those factory screws outta this damn thing. Upon inspection of the screws, it had to be either Rocksett, superglue, or some other kind of NASA style of adhesive...cause it was a clear (ish) looking substance. Either way.................Fuk those things.....they're in the trash. So I got the new ARMS 35 QD mount on the optic. So I pull out the SASS and slap her together. Lay this new abomination onto her top rail and slide the latches into place. Easy enough. I then proceed to fumble for about 45 minutes with the external power supply. This thing straps to the stock like a cheekrest. I finally get this in place and power her up to do a quick function check. Yeah...........it still works. So for now, this is how she sits. I'm still waiting on the laser range finder that's designed to mount to this thing. It's supposed to be good out to 1500 meters. We'll see if there's a shred of truth to that at some point I guess. It's a long lead item through optics planet, so it should be a couple more weeks at the least before I see it. I've also got the external remote that straps to the rail. It's called the X-trac. Supposedly so you don't have to fumble for the buttons on top of the unit, you more intuitively use your offhand that's clutching the rail to manipulate the settings. We'll see how that works out also. The app that ATN makes for thing won't work on my personal phone. It's too old. But it does work on my work phone (a much newer unit). It seems to be pretty cool, for what I've played with it so far. I can't make it work on my tablets though. My large one, obviously, is a Windows surface tablet, so it won't work with that at all. My smaller one, is an amazon fire tablet. It would be a great (and portable) size to view the optic though. But it won't load the ATN app. Fukin google is fighting me on this one. I think this more an amazon thing though. These tablets from them, even being a google based operating system, are more of just an amazon thing. Or, something for doing some light reading while on the can. I don't know. It won't load the app either way. So that's long-winded enough for now. I'm waiting for the range finder before I even take this thing out to play with it on a hot range. I'll let you all know as we proceed. Oh....you all will be shocked, but I still haven't cleaned this thing since the last fall shoot. Tom will be happy. If you look close enough in the pics, you can still see the Arizona desert all over this rifle. And..........the mandatory pics of course. Bad phone pics, but it's all I got for now.
  2. Wild animals are just that. Wild. Shoot first....talk later. I don't trust anything with two legs. You think I'm gonna trust the instincts of anything with more than two legs? And all those ones with no legs that are slithering around.......they're nothing but shotgun fodder in my eyes.
  3. As if I would come to the fukin desert without it?
  4. Did somebody ask about 7.62 SBR's? You've seen it before here. Noveske Leonidas barrel on my AR-10. Or.......an 11" FAL. Or.......a 12" POF Or....you could always go with a 10" 300 Black. I love me some SBR's.
  5. Yes it is. You can appreciate his thoughts and feelings about being approached or interviewed as he got older. Rest well Marine. We've got the watch. Semper Fi my brother.
  6. Even as a Ford guy. I had to give a tip of the hat to the late 80's firebird Formula. I never had one. But I test drove one of those steeds. One bad ass car. "Slightly worked" engines (350's), tight suspensions, FAT fuckin tires but without all of the boy racer ground effects that GM was also known for in those days. Saw a lot of Trans Am's back in those days, but not too many Formula's. But alas........I've always bled Ford blue.

    It would've probably baited GREG.
  8. Welcome from Maryland.
  9. Welcome aboard, from Maryland.
  10. Welcome aboard from Maryland.
  11. Hey! C'mon now. You're gonna tarnish my reputation as a high functioning drunkard.
  12. Well, I guess we all know that he isn't talking about me on this one. I'm not sure if there are any pictures with me in it that I don't have a beer in my hand. Regardless of time of day.
  13. Spot on Doc.
  14. I've got the ATN Auxiliary Ballistic Laser 1500 coming to attach to the X-Sight HD. So we'll see how all this stuff finally works (or doesn't) soon.
  15. I'd be in for something like that too.

    458 SOCOM

No doubt. That was one bad-ass little mother-fuker Sketch.
  17. That is one SEXY look on that rifle brother. I love it. I may just have to give that a try on a black rain set that I still have. Meaning......I'll send it to you to work your magic on it.
  18. What? Do you mean the "Thing" behind the trigger?
  19. I ain't feeding that guy. Buying him guns would be cheaper.
  20. Does that mean you're gonna give me an AR-10A? All of mine are B's, but I'll always take a FREE rifle from a "friend"
  21. Watching that......well......it makes me moist.
  22. I've never heard of 30 rounders for an AR-10. But I don't claim to be an expert. I find 20 round mags to be just fine for these animals.
  23. Roger that. Looks like I go "wheels up" then on early Tuesday morning for the annual great Trek to the desert.
  24. So I need to plan on being at Tom's on Thursday the 18th then right? Just figuring on the time at the LZ -30 hours for the drive. So does this mean that we're going to head into the desert secret facility on Friday? I'm all for an extra day in the desert with the crowd. Oh, and Kate has already said that she's in for another desert weekend. So Ray will be happy that she's back. Also, she's looking forward to seeing Doc and mama bear. She absolutely loved those two. So hopefully Doc, you all will make it.
  25. I try not to go to my range on nice days. I hate people enough as it is. I don't have the patience for "gun guys" that wanna talk your ear off by telling you about everything that they own. I don't give a fuk about what they may or may not own. Or if they think my stuff is too loud or not. Fuk em all. So I'm "that guy" that is more than happier shooting while it's raining. Slim chance that others are out there in the rain. After all, these are battle rifles to begin with, so rain doesn't hurt them. And I don't baby my stuff anyway. I usually leave after other people get there no matter what. HEY! That's why I'm part hermit anyway.
