    Big Trouble

I am still shooting 30-06 handloads with 46 grains of 4064 that I loaded in 1979. I loaded 600, what can I say?

    Big Trouble

My son and I both shoot 30-06 Savage bolts for Deer Season now, though he plans to use the AR10 rifle this year. I still regret trading in my Dad's old 700 from 1951 for a Colt AR15 HBAR in 1994. Should have kept it and paid cash. I am open minded but my old Remington loyalty isn't there any more. But my Savage loyalty is. I just want to get the best rifle if I do get one.
  4. My youth backpacking western Montana, I never got over the pucker factor when it came to Grizzlies. I couldn't afford a 44 Mag back in those days so I carried a .357. Considered taking the front sight off so it wouldn't snag when the bear shoved it up my you know what. In this gentleman's case, I guess you do what you have to to survive. Hats off to him.

98: Quick question, Do you like the 700 over the Savage bolt? I am kicking around a 300 WM and trying to figure out which left hand model would be best. I figure you have reasons for the 700 and would like to hear them.
  6. We all have 308ARBW in a bad way. No hope for us there.
  7. Don't know, but it eventually leads to Glock Rot Oh Man! Don't! Now I am gonna have to explain to myself why I can't afford it!
  8. Damn! You found me out. The holster cost a fortune, and instead of linseed oil to condition it you use KY.
  9. That put Osceola down for the count. Great little town too.
  10. Good one.
  11. I like to wear loose clothing.
  12. There you go. After years of wonder 9's, Sigs and FN's in 9 mm .40 and .45 acp. I find myself back to packing a 40 year old S and W Model 28 revolver in .357 magnum. Still feels the best and hits any thing I want within 50 yards. Couldn't do that with any of the others.
  13. Best guess a big cat, or maybe a pack of wild dogs. They do cannibalise their own, just like wolves do. Just looked at your location, any swamp around...? Alligators?
  14. You know I haven't, though I thought of it today. I think I may have some overpressured rounds that might have caused my AR10 T extraction issues. Not quite sure yet. Although according to quickload they should be okay. My Hornady manual suggests they are right on the fence. 41 grains of RL15 behind a 175 BTHP. Have to carefully shoot one or two and inspect the cases next time at the range. I may end up buying the soft ware, just not right now.
  15. Have one of those on my AR10T. Really like it.
  16. Just a thought: The tighter you make the barrel twist, the less performance you will probably get out of lighter weight bullets. My 1 in 10 does ok with 147 gr. M80's, my 1 in 11.25 does a little better. My pocket book tells me I will shoot a lot of M-80, if for no other reason then to get the brass for reloading. Going to 1 in 9 might rule out using the cheap stuff for anything but plinking or mag dumps. Maybe some of the more knowledgeable guys can weigh in on this.
  17. Left a Facebook message for Martin over at AR10T two weeks ago. No response. Think he has moved on. Probably a good thing.

  18. Ballistics 101. Bet it would have been fun to hear you set them straight. I bought an AR-15 A2 H-Bar in 92 when it was clear that the Ban was coming, and that information was well known in the civilian marksmen community by then, amazing they didn't still didn't have a clue. I remember back then you couldn't get the 62 gr. SS109's or M-855's. I ended up getting 2,000 IMI Israeli equivalent bullets from Natchez and handloading my own. Only way a civilian could get it back then.
  19. The day is coming the only thing you will be allowed to hunt are Pokemons.
  20. Maybe Imschur will pin the address somewhere. I am sorry about your daughter. My wife had a four year old brother pass away from Hodgkins. PM me with the address to send donations. I try to set something aside every year to do that.
  21. Use nothing but RL 15 or Varget. Sorry can't help with any recipes.
