    Big Trouble

I think he was using IMR4064 or 4895, as most of us in the club did. I used a max load about 5% under the 50.8 max and IMR4064 as shown in my manual and was not showing high pressure marks on the lake city cases. He was at 52.5 grains of 4064 according to my FFL gun repair notes from 1978. I sent in the original manuals, but kept backup hand copies, as required when I didn't renew my FFL in 1993. I am pretty sure he was loading Speer or Sierra 168 grain (which is what I sold back then. I remember I settled on 47 grains of 4064 for my 03A3 Springfield (Santa Fe Arms) 4 groove barrel. That was the best grouping load I found for the 168 grain FMJ. My M1 also shot well with the load, I always separated the cases because the M1 chamber was considerably larger than the 03A3. What powder and load do you use for 3006? I should have never bought that LR308 dammit!..... I am too old to be getting that old itch, I thought I had put to rest, but it never really dies, I reckon. Now I'm looking at a new walnut stocked M1A National Match rifle with all the goodies ($2200 sale price) to replace the old M1 I gave to my son. Someone please shoot me and get me out of my misery.

    Big Trouble

I wasn't invited but do have an experience with Savage left handed bolt rifles, don't think they can be beat specially in their price range. I sold several back in the 70s thru the 90s. One custome, my barber,r brought one in 3006, bolt would not open on one of his hot hand loads. I asked him about how hot,at first he wouldn't tell me. I explained that his warranty was already cancelled an if I couldn't fix it in my shop it was a wall hanger. I had him bring some of the fired cases and the extra high pressure was plain to see. I hammered the bolt open, broke the extractor. I was able to drive the case out with a steel rod it had a complete bolt face on the cartridge head. I replaced the extractor and spring. He was still shooting the Savage when he died of a heart attack twelve years later.

  12. I got my new genuine replica made in the USA 1911 Model 7 Shoulder holster rig today, good and all the straps are good. My series 70 was a tad tight fit with the Pachmeyer wrap around grips but I soaked it down with WD40 crammed it in, fastened the strap and set it in the window sill to stretch out. I also noticed on my new can of WD40 with the "sprays2 way" tip that it says NOT FOR SALE IN CALIFORNIA.
  13. Oh well nevermind..............
  14. Hillary is still thinking it may be a bearded Ex Trump golf Resort Tower manager, so she wants to wait until she has ALL the intel about the case. Trump again rushed to judgment just because the FBI is looking for an American Citizen named Ahmad Khan Rahami! and it could have actually been a BOMB!
  15. OKAY! just what the hell are we talking about here? Is it bigger than a bread basket?
  16. My general hunting and plinking and training firearms are locked away in a built in gun safe, all empty, cleaned lubed and hammers down. .380 double action only loaded chambered and handy, always. .40 chambered uncocked and safety locked on, this semi auto is single and double action and everyday carry close at hand 24-7. I also have a handgun in each automobile, S&W .38 special and .357 Ruger service six. both loaded with 38 special +P hollow point. Yes I reckon you could call me a Deplorable, born again, fiscal compassionate conservative, Bible thumping Christian, retired oil field gun nut-NRA life member , brown shoe Marine Corps trained.... tried and true Texican....And I have already decided whom I will Vote for, and I have never missed voting in a general election since 1960.
  17. Do you usually shot long range by loading one round for each shot or do you load a full magazine of ?? rounds? I usually use a four round magazine, it fits my prone position much better than a 20 or 30 round magazine, in the LR308. I haven't seen a single shot magazine blanking device that will hold the bolt open after each shot, I find operating a charging handle and bolt stop after each shot inconvenient.
  18. I started doping wind back in 1960 when I enlisted in the Marine Corp. It was hard to conceptualize mirage without any video. gives a good view of mirage at the midpoint range. Did you remove the gas rings from your DPMS rifle?I have found that using a handheld wind meter is good for the firing point and watching the area near the target is good for that area, and defocusing the spotting scope to half way down range is a good way to view mirage at mid range. Like Hot Rod I have only used iron sights and either a M1 or M14, M1A for shooting 500 to 1500 yards. Now that I have a DPMS LR 308 with no iron sights it will be a new experience. I checked out the Tac Pro shooting center West of Ft. Worth last week and intend to become a member. They allow public to use their 100 and 200 yard ranges, but members only canshootonthe1000 yd range, after attending a long range qualifying session. It is a 50 mile drive but it seems to be a good facility, Check out their web page and also their FB page.. The owner is a former UK Special Forces instructor.
  19. This is a good video.
  20. The topic is Long Range AR, well the site is named 308AR so I reckon this is as good as any place to talk some Long Range 308AR shooting. How many of you have a history of shooting 400, 500 or 1000 or more yards, or interested in learning? It has been 30 years since I was actually involved in long range shooting but it is kinda like flying an airplane or riding a bike, it tends to stay with you. Okay question #1: How many of you ever learned to read mirage to estimate wind? I never did much in the USMC because we used strictly iron sights and very few spotting scopes were used on the rifle range, always scoring and marking targets in the Butts. It was only when I started shooting around the US Palma team shooter George Tubb (David's Dad) did I learn to read mirage using a spotting scope. He taught me to set the scope focus about mid range to the target, that makes the mirage at that point easier to read. To me it still isn't an easy skill to be good at.

    Revolver help

This is my first CZ Clone, I have used an original CZ 9mm, This one is a EAA Witness Compac .40 S&W I bought new in the box for a good price. There is a bit of a bad luck story that goes with it. It was shipped with the wrong recoil spring setup. The factory switched over to a dual recoil spring system and my pistol had a spring so long it wouldn't allow the slide to open enough to chamber a round. No body at the distributorship knew about the new system. I found a older Witness guru on a CZ forum that said start cutting the springs, I did until I could open the slide 1/16 of an inch past where the slide lock would latch, and polished up the slide and frame Hammer. It works now, I need to break it in before I can use as a daily concealed carry piece.
