Exactly why the pitting vehicle wants to move out of the danger area and let the squads behind handle the subject vehicle from a safer distance in a setup that provides more cover. Everyone did a great job in this, just looking at it, I can't help but cringe.

Hope they end up alright. For us we aren't allowed to pit unless it is under 35mph unless deadly force is justified... which based on their willingness to do it in such a busy area at a busy time, might have been the case. Also with us, the pitting vehicle will pit and then drive passed for his safety and to hold traffic farther down the road if possible. If you notice, the vehicle did have a very nice pit but then turned into him on purpose to force him against the guard rail. when the shots started, the officer was right up against the subject vehicle. Not good. Also other vehicles got up closer than maybe they should of too, and maybe that was because they moved up farther than planned to help the pitting vehicle. We train that the pitting vehicle pits and continues on. the following squads then setup a high risk stop from 20-40 feet back and call out the occupants one at a time while we remain in cover. There might be a chance the driver tries to continue on, but already we would have a better position all around the subject and safety is more important. can always pit again later if he takes off or half the pit vehicle ready with spikes down the road. usually we spike the vehicle before we get a chance to pit anyways. Now things don't always go as planned, especially when there are so many things that could happen in a situation that is hard to train. But sadly we have been getting in pursuits more and more frequent. Friday night, in my region there was 4 high speed pursuits in my 8 hour shift alone. But the more these guys run, the better we get at catching them and communicating with other agencies to do so. If people get away, it is usually because we let them if it isn't worth the danger to chase and we already have a way to identify them.

My agency has a union and it is great for us. They are the only thing that protects us against stupid politics from within and outside the agency. We had a 6 year pay freeze, but the union helped change that. The union protects us when supervisors want to try and get rid of someone for stupid reasons or politics needs to "sacrifice" someone. There is bad within ours even, but we are worse off without it. Oh I know. and everytime someone hits one it turns a possible runoff vehicle with no damage into a crash. meaning a pay out to someone and more work for me on the road. -

and this is one of the many problems with out government today. They let companies take advantage of them and pay stupid prices for everything. and people wonder why our budgets are always so fcked up. on my interstate, a 3 foot guard rail piece costs about $3,000 and the guard rail ends which are 2 feet long cost about $5,000. Why? it is just metal that doesn't have to be produced at aerospace standards or anything. It is because the government is willing to pay that much because they can and it is the tax payers that suffer. No private company or individual would ever be taken advantage of like the government is on being over charged for stuff, it just isn't productive. You would think if someone gets a government contract, they would be selling it at discount to the government because they are selling quantity. Common business, making money off the volume. But instead those with these contracts sell at increased price and increased volume. I think if the government had some business sense on all things they purchase or contract out, this country would be able to start getting rid of its debt and maybe our taxes would go down also. And dare I dream that as a state employee I would make the same amount or more than most contracted workers that work on our roadways, instead of even the damn sign holders making more money than me. Ok, rant over. -

New .308 Hornady Critical Defense Cartridge w/FTX Bullet
ARTrooper replied to Matt's topic in General Discussion
I'm pretty sure with some common sense, this post was bullpoopy from the start. All bullets penetrate. If it can kill a person it can go through the walls of a house, doesn't matter if it is .22 LR or something a lot bigger. Does Hornady's bullet help? maybe. but I'm not willing to trust my children's lives to some fancy bullet with good marketing. how about just use the 3rd basic rule of firearms, "Be sure of your target and WHAT IS BEHIND IT." That is the only way you can be sure that over penetration wont be an issue. I don't care what reviews and tests show, if my kid's room is behind an armed burglar, I am not going to be blasting away like Rambo. Also, in a high stress situation such as a gun fight, most of the rounds will miss their intended target based on most engagements. Well poop, what good is a bullet that is made to not over penetrate its target if it misses the target. If you truly want to ignore rule #3, I suggest you find some frangible bullets for home defense, as I think this would be the safest bet. But if you want to actually follow the basic rules of firearms, that every amateur to expert should; then use whatever ballistic tip, full metal jacket, hunting, or fancy bullet you want. Besides you are gonna need to go to the hardware store for some heavy duty cleaners to remove the blood stains, might as well pick up some putty to patch the wholes in the drywall. Hope that is a good enough answer for Matt and all future Matts. -
What a piece of crap. I hope he burns in hell after dying a slow, painful death.

I think guns are the cure for a lot of things. lol. Always good to have a medic around... never know when you are gonna have a bad hangover and need an iv.

Not possible, Chicago has strict gun laws ? -
Lots of people here like that. I think you will fit in well here... especially if you have a twisted sense of humor. lol.

I think the 45 raptor would be best but as of right now, 45-70 government is a lot easier to find. What are you planning on using your rifle for that you want such a big bullet? keep in mind those large, slow moving bullets with poor bcs loose their energy very quickly. judging at quick a few quick looks at what I could find, it seems like .308 is going to have more energy at 200 yards than these bigger bullets, and still even pretty comparable at closer ranges. yes these bigger bullets are gonna create bigger whole that bleed more... bla bla bla. but speed kills just as much, if not more if you can get a large temporal cavity from a lot of speed. Also, these larger rounds are going to have a lot more recoil and cost. 2 cents

mmmm I like coffee... I'll show you guys my beer if I can get the wife to bring me another. lol.

What's makes you think it might be magazine besides the better percentage with the different magazine? is there sign of contact between the mag lips and the bcg? Sounds to me like it is feeding fine if the bolt grabs a new round each time, it just might be a failure to fully chamber or lock. Of coarse buying a few magpul mags never hurts, can never have to many. and it will completely illuminate that possibility.

just giving you poop brother... I just hate the thought of a dull knife
-
Maybe start out with your rifle setup and what type of magazines you are using and then tell us what is or isn't happening that needs correcting

I have had a CRKT since I was like 10. I have cut just about everything with them... but I don't suggest digging. lol
