If you want to mimic a free-floating handguard, you'll probably want to make sure no part of the barrel touches anything when you fire it. You would almost need to do something like a pistol vice, something that will grip only from the action back. Maybe a sandbag or two under the action?

So far, I'm just in pistol calibers. .357m, .44m, .45ACP. And 12 ga. Waiting for other projects to get finished, then it'll be .308w & .223rem.

It's nature's way of improving the breed. it's just the old and slow ones that are killed. Leaves your head with faster, better brain cells.

I've got the 3.3 and the 4.0 XDS, both in .45 ACP. They're light, balance well, and felt recoil is on a par with my 5" 1911. They shoot better than I can, and I've never had a functioning issue with any of them. I like the short grips because they're easier to conceal. I use my own holsters (I tinker with leatherworking) and I've had no problems. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

As BOLD (Benevolent Order of Law Dogs) #692, I thank you on behalf of all of us. I think it was easier then (back in the 70s) or maybe my tolerance for paperwork just got worse as time went on. I don't think I could put up with the BS that I hear about now. All the more reason for these younger ones to be proud to be PIGS. That's Pride, Integrity, Guts, Service.
