  1. I'll bet I can hazard a guess, that rounded looking notch is where they brought the milling tool away from the workpiece before it (FFHG) made the full revolution with the milling cutter. You can see the profile of the milling cutter they were using. That FFHG should've been sent back to the manufacturer to be fixed or replaced. Cutting on your receiver is bad juju, and you shouldn't have to do that just because your FFHG manufacturer sent you factory seconds. I'd be real pissed off if I were in your shoes.
  2. Well boys, it's with heavy heart that I bid you adieu for a week or so. The gods have seen fit to attempt to drive me into the farthest darkest corners of insanity by locking me into a remote cabin in TN with my in-laws. If ya'll don't hear back from me again, I will my two ARs to Madhouse and Drew for putting up with me. Microgunner is to get the Glenfield 60 I keep in the closet. Let edgecrusher and Robocop fight over my 1911's. Tom get's the Walther P22 and the Mauser project, cause' he likes old military guns and plinking. That's it for the valuables, everybody else can share the proceeds of the auction from the Silverado, and if you can make it look like an electrical fire, burn the house and take the insurance money. Well, that about covers it, I hope I'm back in a week or less. Ya'll stay outta trouble now, ya hear? Me ---> :stfu2: <--- My in-laws Edit: Oops, dang near forgot... All ya'll have a VERY Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
  3. When you get a good one, it's worth every single penny. A really good barrel is a heck of an investment, but it will pay off with every shot you make through it.
  4. This topic has been moved to Handguns. [iurl]http://308ar.com/forum/index.php?topic=4960.0[/iurl] Since I found something else, I'm moving this from the Want to Buy to the Handgun section.
  5. You can't ask for any better than Roger Wang. He's good people selling unbeatable product. I won't be putting in any more safety levers that come with an LPK anymore, Roger is the go to guy.
  6. Yeah, it worked out pretty nice. Got a SERPA Blackhawk holster with it, with both OWB and IWB configurations, 3 mags, lock and original wood grips, original box too. This thing has less than 100 rounds down the pipe. I don't like the Hogue grips as much as I love Pachmeyers, and I dress my carry gun in "The Tux", my affectionate nickname for the Pachmeyer Legends series grips. Here's a pic of her now: I'm pretty happy. I'm trying to keep it separated from the Rock Island 1911 I used to carry. Can't have these things making babies.... <laughs>
  7. I just miked it up and at the widest part of the brake, (the threads for suppressor) it measures 0.860", the ID of my GB is ~.940". I didn't bother to take it apart, but with nearly a tenth of clearance, I'm guessing it won't be a problem. <thumbsup>
  8. Let me grab my calipers real quick and I'll get right back to you....
  9. Well, the GSG plan has been officially derailed until my tax returns come in... Poor thing got shot out of the saddle by a Para Ordinance GI LTC that I just couldn't pass up. Looks just like this one, only with black rubber Hogue grips: I blame it on Greg for buying those fancy Christmas presents for his wife.
  10. He ain't kidding, I found this out the hard way. Lucky for me, Dave Tooley is a wizard with a lathe, and he turned my Bennie Cooley comp down to where my .936 gas block slipped right over it. Worked like a charm, all the way up until the Bennie Cooley gave up it's spot for the Ops Inc brake.
  11. There's a guy who sells the adapters for them, has a video on youtube. It works like a charm too. Probably the least expensive way to have a suppressed weapon out there. You'd be hard pressed to find a total suppressor purchase for $275 anywhere else.
  12. The false suppressor is threaded on, and as far as I know, doesn't attenuate any sound.
  13. Brother I got a couple laying around you're welcome to, you wouldn't have to pay anything but shipping costs. Let me know if it comes down to that, I have no need for them.
  14. This guy puts it as clearly and concisely as you could wish for... I'll be sharing this link with anyone who asks that ridiculous question from now on.
  15. I was kind of counting on that, you know a dude that runs a Tactical .22 site knows some stuff about where to get them for the best prices.
  16. Done! If anybody else sees something in the meantime, give me a shout.
  17. Measure the ID of the barrel nut and have your barrel turned down to an easy slip fit by a qualified gunsmith.
  18. I'm looking to find a GSG 1911-22, they're currently being imported by ATI. If you see a good deal on one, please let me know. I'd prefer to have any of the models that come pre-threaded for suppressors or muzzle attachments, because I will ultimately want it to host a suppressor. Thanks guys!
  19. There are 4 branches to the BATFE brother, better get you some tannerite and take care of that 4th branch! <thumbsup>
  20. I digress to your point, but in the same sentence Mr. LaPierre pointed out the boatloads of money that we're pouring into other countries instead of taking care of our own. It's not that we can't afford to do it, what we can't afford is to keep spending money in the places we're spending it.
  21. I can't help but wonder, can that issue still be opened? Without the assistance of paint thinner, I mean. <laughs>
  22. Funny how some of those petite types just love the 1911. My wife certainly does, 5' 7" and maybe 140lbs soaking wet. What can I say, she can dang near outshoot me with my own pistol.
  23. You landed right in the middle of the best expertise on this platform you could possibly find on the web! Welcome to the forums! Your rifle is in fact a .308 rifle. It is chambered with 7.62x51 reamer, which means that the chamber is designed for NATO spec 7.62x51 ammunition. The technical explanation being quite lengthy, your short answer is that the .308 Winchester and 7.62x51, are externally the exact same round. Internally, the difference is in the case thickness and SAAMI specs, the primary difference being that the NATO round has a thicker case. They are interchangeable. Your answer will depend on your primary use for this weapon, if you need the most you can get accuracy wise, .308 Winchester match ammo will probably give you the best results. If you want to shoot as affordably as possible, 7.62 military surplus or equivalent will probably be your go to option. We're proud to have Armalite as a forum sponsor, you can simply contact them through their website, they should be able to tell you exactly what you have based on a description and serial number. I'm sure they'd be able to answer all your questions with a simple phone call. In the collective experience here, these larger frame ARs like to be run quite well oiled for their first couple hundred rounds or so. Sometimes it's necessary, sometimes it isn't but you have nothing to lose by being prepared to oil it up if you experience any problems within your first few rounds. Enjoy your new rifle, and again, welcome to the forums!
  24. The point made about veterans was a very good one, I never stopped to think about what memories and thoughts are attached to an M16-style rifle for a veteran. Makes it a little easier to understand their sentiment.
  25. That's pretty sweet, I got a little RC heli for Christmas a couple years ago. I fire it up every once in a while and chase the kids through the house with it. They giggle uncontrollably and shriek and run, I laugh until it hurts just watching the fun.
