So, with another PRS match coming up at the end of next week, I decided to finish bipodification revision 1 this weekend. I decided on new dimensions and materials for revision one, 1018 cold-rolled being plentifully available and easy to machine. Semi-Final dimensions are 7/8" tall, 1" long, and 0.600" thick per segment. I also upgraded the pivot shoulder bolt from 1/4" to 5/16". A shot of the countersunk socket head cap screws.... And finally, a view of the segments attached to their respective bipod components.... Everything fits pretty well so far, I'm going to take a hard look at how much length and height I can reduce without a compromise of strength. All that's left beside that is to put the radii on the segments, bead blasted it, and paint it flat black.

That's when you know the sickness is terminal, when you can no longer remember what all is headed your way.

In the machining business we have a term for the kind of product that Anderson's large ARs typify; "scrap"! My only use for it is to recycle it and make something useful out of the recycled metal. My beef with this sub-par crap being sold is that some poor tool somewhere will stake his life on the one POS he could find that fit his budget, and it will fail him in his time of need. Don't sell junk that doesn't work, doesn't get any more simple than that.

I can't. Everything I build runs like a champ, except for that one lockback issue with the oversized buffer on the MA TEN of course.... and I did fix it but it was too easy. I guess I need to get myself a PSA PA-10 and document the turd polishing process.

Save yourself some money, know your limitations! Pay no attention to that guy over on your other shoulder...

Brass wouldn't be good for that application, because it's very malleable and that's going to cause problems.

Good point, and along with single shot functionality, you won't need that heavy loaded magazine either. Further weight savings, yay!!!!

It's uncanny brother, I'm telling you. I blew a circuit breaker or two when I became aware of DEWS. It was only a joke at first, I have long been a believer for a long time now.

The decision to filter language here was made by the ownership, and it's not anybody's call to undo it at a lower level, so those of us who know and respect the owner honor his decision. Definitely. Heavier buffer = more cycle time.

I'm pretty sure your recoil cycle is way too brief, needs to be a bit longer. That's a two-factor problem, the right gas system setup is the first component, and a heavier bolt carrier group is the second. I would address them in that order.

Gotcha. Here is what I was basing that on... I think I understand your problem now... When the failure occurs, is the bolt behind the fresh round, or on top of it?

Where's the oil? Why is the oil always gone?

That's physically unpossible my friend. You're saying that in the firing sequence, the bolt extracts the fired round(evidenced by the case mouth being dented by the locking lugs on your barrel extension), strips another cartridge from the mag, and then chambers the stripped cartridge with the spent cartridge trapped behind it. That's physically impossible. Based on the pics and the bent cartridge here is what I see happening when this occurs; the bolt fails to travel far enough rearward to properly strip the next cartridge, and begins to travel forward again before the extracted brass can clear the receiver. On the way forward, the bolt frictionally grabs the cartridge in the mag and pushes it into the barrel extension locking lugs where it bends and ceases to move, the bolt continues forward stovepiping the spent brass. That's my assessment.

It's all about the bolt travel, I think it explains both issues; why you couldn't get bolt lock back, and why the bolt is overrunning the cartridge in the mag and catching the spent brass. The bolt simply doesn't travel far enough to the rear to catch the rear of the next cartridge. You may have an out of spec bolt carrier group, recoil buffer and/or action spring, and/or buffer tube. Maybe even all the above. I suspect your recoil buffer/spring/tube are the source of your issues, and that once you get that to spec you can go back to an unmodified bolt catch.
