@Grebesbakery It sure would help if we knew which AR10 you got. Also an idea on what you are trying to do would help. Usually when people refer to "handguards" they are talking about the two piece fixed system. These fit between the delta ring and gas block. Otherwise people look at "free float rails/tubes" that only attach at the barrel nut. In either case, you have the decision of smooth or railed. You also have weight options from carbon fiber, polymer and aluminum. Not all AR15 parts can fit the 308AR. Some AR15 parts can be modified to work. I read that you plan on hunting white tail with this rifle. Are you walking or in a blind? On the right side of the forum is a list of links to 308AR parts. Click on a link to see some of the available parts designed for your AR10.

Robocop1051's 14.5" Dissipator 300 AAC Blackout
Robocop1051 replied to Robocop1051's topic in 300 AAC Blackout
The OAL of my barrel is now 16.5" :) Hoping to shoot tomorrow morning. <thumbsup> -
Make it as drag bike!!! No Edge, not that kind of "drag". You're secret is still safe with me ;)

Important part first... Never ever EVER bring your can to California. For that matter, you should always check state/municipal laws before transporting through the area. In California, mere possession, registered or not, is illegal. Sorry. :'( Now back to "cans"! I am a huge supporter of "stick to the guys who focus on this biz". Surefire and AAC are the first names on that list. I like that AAC 762-SDN-6, but if the money is available they make MUCH lighter versions. take a look at the 300-TM (direct thread) and the MK13-SD too. With the 726-SDN-6 and MK13-SD you need an AAC muzzle device first... Surefire's are really nice, albeit expensive. Again you need their muzzle device.

Those Vortex flash hiders are ok, but there are better products out there. PWS makes the most affordable one, called the FSC30. I just saw one for sale for $85. Flashider doesn't do much to help/assist shooting. A brake or comp would give more benefits.

Robocop1051's 14.5" Dissipator 300 AAC Blackout
Robocop1051 replied to Robocop1051's topic in 300 AAC Blackout
Yeah, I was worried about that too. I was prepared to take mill off the first two picatinny slots, if needed. If you go to page1 you'll see how much I had milled off the original gasblock already. My buddy hit it with a coat of Cerakote for a perfect finish. You can't see from pictures too well, but the BABC is actually recessed into the gasblock. Even after I had the gb milled, the BABC was still hitting it. I used my rotary tool to make a relief just barely large enough to pass. -
Since everyone else was changing, I couldn't help myself.

I agree. It's like owning a race car, and not having racing tires.

Where are you out of? It's alway good to know an FFL... For when I stop hating you. <laughs>
-
Screw you! I'm very tempted already. I don't need any assistance from the peanut gallery! @Pappy1600, that is a very nice rifle. I hope you understand that I have to hate you for a little while. It's not personal. I'm just jealous.

Without spending a LOT of money, the Rainier Arms 16" LW barrel... Otherwise the Rainier Ultramatch 16" barrel. As for the BCG... I don't know any place that makes a .308 BCG with NiB coating. Instead I would just look for an inexpensive phosphate BCG, then ship it to www.WMDguns.com for the NiB coating. I think it costs about $100... I'm pretty sure at least one of our members has done this already.

The Colt CM901, one rifle built to do everything... And it's a Colt!

Anyone have a good line on Sig (NOT PROMAG) P220 .45 extended 10 round mags? Preferably in stainless.

Now I see that. These are a little pricey, but you get exactly what you are looking for.

<lmao> The OBR is probably the best "all around" off the shelf rifle you can get for the $$$. Maybe you can argue the LWRC REPR too, but there are way too many gadgets and proprietary parts to make that call. The OBR has it all, on a very simple and well known platform. It is completely a war machine right out of the box. Only problem with the OBR's, is finding one for sale. ;) The guys that buy GAP and JP rifles just want to sit at a bench/table, and look REALLY good doing it. You will sit on a lengthy waiting list for either build, but I understand the wait is worth it.
-
<thumbsup> Especially the JP LRP07. The OBR is one hell of a rifle, but not the same category of rifle.

The only thing rarer than a GAP10, is an owner willing to sell his. Good luck on your quest!

DPMs bolt carrier problem
Robocop1051 replied to george_995's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
I read the neg review and I agree that there are possible out of spec parts out there. I recently had a bad barrel. I see two options: 1. Send the carrier back to DPMS 2. Try an AR10 bolt catch. I understand they are slightly longer than standard DPMS. To the best of my knowledge, Mega doesn't actually make their bolt catches. I could be wrong here, so hopefully someone who knows different will pipe in and correct me. The last thing you want to do is go through a shit ton of stress mailing parts back and forth, only to find some joker gave you an AR15 bolt catch. -
I was wondering why his sights were so far back?? I wasn't aware the difference was so significant. Thanks for the info. I hope Harrison has an answer for this. I see LPA doesn't have a non-adjustable sight.

I have those same Bo-Mar style sights on my Springfield TRP Operator. It's hard to find a good set to replace them with. Harrison Design is the best place to start your search. If you're still taking suggestions... http://shop.harrisoncustom.com/p/155/hd-006-t2-night-sight I'm very tempted to jump on this myself...

You need a dog. I justify stuff for my dog all the time!

[move] :P :P WE TOLD YOU SO :P :P [/move] <lmao> <laughs> <lmao> <laughs> I love my 14.5" mid length system! Now you are hooked for life too!! This goes back to my theory that you really should attempt to fit the longest possible gas system your barrel will allow. We all know that the gas moves exponentially faster than the bullets, otherwise there would be no BOOM. As long as the hole under the gas block is large enough, the gun should be able to handle it. Compare the size of the gas hole in the barrel to the inner diameter to the gas tube... That is a considerable size difference. The gas tube can take a LOT more gas than most barrels will release. ALL gas tubes, from CAR to Rifle, are shorter than the distance the powder requires for a complete burn. The fact that burnt carbon builds in our gas tubes is further proof that the powder is continuing to burn inside the gas tube. This equates to continuously expanding gases inside the gas tube. There is a lot more force inside those itty-bitty bullets than people are lead to believe. The only time I ever plan on a carbine gas tube ever again, is if I build a 10" SBR. Anything 16" or longer gets a Rifle length gas system.

Novak sights are pretty nice too! http://www.novaksights.com/products/sights/models/kimber5.html You really have a lot of options. Personally, I prefer the tritium inserts that have the white bushing around them. That way they can be equally effective in day or night settings. If you don't need the tritium, and really only 1% of the people who own guns REALLY need tritium, I recommend checking out the fiber optic model sights. Here are some examples of front sights. Serrated - Tritium - 14kt. - White - Red - Green - Plain Tritium Night Gold Dot Fiber Fiber Black Bead Optic Optic
