  1. I almost missed this... Plutonium (kg/m3=19816) is also more dense than Tungsten. Again, not a reasonable source for buffer weights ;D
  2. T Tungsten (kg/m3=19600) is denser than Uranium (kg/m3=18900). It comes closest to Gold (kg/m3=19320), but is actually only beat by one other metal, Platinum (kg/m3=21400). Needless to say, but since Tungsten sells for about $2.50 per gram and Platinum sells for over $50 per gram... You can see why there are no affordable options to make a heavier buffer weight. Was that too nerdy?
  3. I heard the same joke, but it ended with "my wife left me after she caught me wearing her clothes."
  4. Stainless or tungsten. Lead is not the appropriate replacement material for an already weighted/heavy buffer.
  5. Here is my method from my last "issue". I put a chamber brush in the chuck of my 18v power drill, then I wrapped the brush with a heavy layer of extra fine 0000 steel wool. After a thorough polishing job on the inside of the gas block, I greased both surfaces before attempting assembly. A few light taps from a plastic hammer were required for faster results. Tight is better than loose. Tight can be fixed. The 308 system is not quite 'plug and play' as you are discovering. There will be some fitting required.
  6. Welcome to our little hideaway. You are in for one hell of a build. Squeezing as much accuracy as you can out of a rifle, and keeping it light enough to hunt with, is a delicate balance. Stay away from unnecessary rails and combat gimmicks. Even muzzle devices can be ditched. Take a look at the Remington 308 and the JP LRP-07-H for some concept ideas.
  7. Now you're getting an ACOG for your Colt!?!? You make it very easy for me to hate you <lmao>
  8. Nice stick! Now that you have all those threads, what kind of device are you thinking?
  9. I have this one http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=27321/Product/AR-15-M16-PROFESSIONAL-GRADE-SLING-ADAPTER
  10. Click HERE for the thread on my new .45! <thumbsup>
  11. Here is a comparison to my current duty Sig P226 .40S&W
  12. I caught that post pre-edit. Did you get embarassed? <lmao> I'm in my office for a bit. I'll see if I can get some pics while I'm here.
  13. I'm sitting my patrol car, just picked up my new baby. I don't have time for a bunch of pics right yet, but here's a little teaser.
  14. A quick thinking business would buy the carbon fiber technology from one of the current manufacturers. I'll bet a few hundred grand and a promise/contract not to sell to the public would buy everything needed.
  15. Since you have everything but the barrel. It's not to late to consider a 300 Blackout. Especially since you are looking to supress later. Those subsonic 208gr nosler's put out by Hornady will protect your home perfectly. I also like the Noveske N4 barrels more than the Noveske stainless. Bang for buck, I don't think you'll beat the DD barrel.
  16. At $5k ea, I have enough vacation time saved up to take off all of September. You bring the beer. I think we can do it.
  17. It's not that hard of a build. Get a UBR and free float a modular handguard over a 16" carbon fiber bull barrel. Someone write the Army and tell them I'll pump these out for $5k a piece.
  18. At $90, I'm no longer interested... I can buy 2 BCM's for that price.
  19. Get the middy if you can find it. The carbine's are fine, just a bit over gassed. You may need to get a heavier buffer, or an adjustable gas block to regulate the amount of gas your rifle uses. As for why doesn't DPMS do it... It's probably as simple as, DPMS bought a shit ton of barrels at a certain spec. When they eventually use them all up, they may go to a newer design. Bushmaster builds at much smaller quantities. They can change their builds more often.
  20. Don't talk about my testes >:(
  21. I like that a lot. Those BCM grips look intriguing.
  22. Take a look at the; Magpul MOE MidLength Handguard (must be modified) Magpul CTR or ACS Stock, w/ Enhanced Butt Pad Magpul MOE+ Pistol Grip Does the ar10 accept the ar15 trigger guards?
  23. Damn it!! Now I have to hate Weaponizer too! I missed the first 300... Then I missed the next 150... I was waiting on two sites and couldn't squeak in. Glad you like it Weap, I hope you pinch your finger in it. I got a major jealous streak running through me this week.
  24. In Cali they call they "Purple drank"... <thumbsup>
  25. I admit, I am a Colt guy. I own several of their single actions. From 1st gen black powder to their newer 4th gen. All of which I have used, and still use, for hunting. I have had several of their 1911's and other autos (double eagle, mustang, 1903) over the years. All used as regular carry guns. All still qualified for LE carry after being 50-75 years old. My first AR15 was my fathers Colt. If you do a search in the "Black Rifles" section you'll find where I finally upgraded it after 25+ years of hard LE use, ranging from patrol to SWAT. You find me any other company that has a longer reputation for making a lasting firearm. Nothing feels more awesome than shooting a buck with a 100 year old Winchester rifle knowing it has probably killed 100's of animals in its life. Same goes for picking up my prized SAA's and wondering how many indians or horse thieves or bank tellers or whatever, fell to the .45 slug flung from its barrel. When our local SWAT bought a truckload of new Colt Commando M4's, the distributor said not to oil them, and if there are any malfunctions to return the rifles. These rifles were taken into training immediately. Some saw around 3,000 rounds in full auto fire that week, with nothing more than a bore snake for cleaning. To this day, none have been returned. I'm not saying Colt is the best at anything. I know there are more accurate, faster shooting guns out there. Colt is just the one I trust sight unseen. If someone told me I was going to war and I was being issued a LaRue, I'd ask "which one?" if they said I was being issued a Colt, I'd simply say "Ok". I don't just drink the KoolAid. I'm the fat guy dressed in red, bursting through your wall, yelling "Oh yeah!"
