  1. I noticed that. I had to log in to get that price. The nice thing about this new design is the simplicity of the parts. If the piston rod did break, it looks like any machinist can spin you a new one.
  2. I've used AA kits before. This one is similar. Mine's been running strong for a few years. The trick is no gas rings and getting a perfect 12 o'clock fit on the gas block. If you don't get a good TDC, the piston rod will tweak and break.
  3. That's not as bad of a price as I remember.
  4. I thought Bobro made a insanely $$$$ model????
  5. ^^^ what he said
  6. Damn. I wish I had known. I did the same YEARS ago. I bought a special tool to get the tap out. I would've sent it to you. I froze my receiver, to shrink the aluminum, and then used the tool to remove the broken tap. I posted the process around here somewhere.
  7. I've done both of these... stick with the coat hanger. It works and is a cheap/easy remedy.
  8. there are a few different ways to control "felt recoil" and the "muzzle rise" of an AR platform rifle... It isn't .308 specific, since the technology is all the same (just sized up/down depending on the caliber) Add weight. A tungsten buffer... A fat bull barrel... an extra weight carrier system. They all add to reducing the felt effects Control gas flow. You can reduce the gas flow through the gas block to allow the minimum required gas to cycle the firearm. This slows the cyclic rate, which reduces the impulse of the action. It is often recommended to reduce the weight of the working parts so that even more gas can be cut out of the system. This is where the JP LMOS started. I have seen titanium carriers and delrin buffers running a nearly weightless AR. It's all about controlling the gas so the rifle doesn't beat itself to death. The technology on this is semi-recent in popularity, only the last 3 or 4 years. There haven't been too many stories about LONG term effects. Get a muzzle device. A decent gas brake will cut even more felt recoil, and can be purchased for under $75. Compensators are best for eliminating muzzle rise, but require a bit more machining. They can usually be found around the $100 mark. It's all about find the happy medium. The 308AR will very quickly get into the 13-15 pound range. I never recommend trying to build a "jack of all trades" .308 rifle. It'll never be as good as you wanted it to be. The 308AR is a pretty mission specific firearm. If you want a hunter, build a hunter. You want a long range paper killer, build that. If you want a combat rifle, it'll be heavier than a hunter and lighter than a bench rifle... but not quite as efficient as either in their specific fields. No one says you only have to have one!!!
  9. Like I said before, not likely to cost much more than that silly extended charging handle... AND it would do exactly what you want. Mill a groove down the side. Run a router down the inside of the upper to make a shouldered rut, similar to the MLOK design. Then create a handle, with a sled, that'll run that groove (probably a two piece design). Modify the carrier to accept the handle similar to the previous pics (Adams Arms haso the printable instructions on their site)... done
  10. Or just use it and let sweat and dirt do their job... lol
  11. Honestly, it shouldn't be that hard to make a non-reciprocating model. I believe Superior Weapons System (SWS) used to make a version that installed in the handguard. They teamed up with, now extinct, Kaiser Military Technologies to make it. I missed my opportunity to own one by weeks, if not days. https://308ar.com/category/manufacturers/kaiser-military-technologies/
  12. You can always have a machinist make your upper into a side charger. They mill a channel out the left side, then install a knob on the BCG. It wouldn't be any more expensive than that silly handle above.
  13. Refrigeration too?!?. Freon fucked up a guy I know. I don't remember all the details, but he had been inhaling the stuff due to a leak in equipment. He thought he was dying and ended up in the ER for a few days.
  14. As far as charging handles go, a badger latch modification is the only option I know of. MechArmor does NOT make that model charging handle, yet.
  15. What kind of upgrades were you looking for? You bought a rifle that is pretty limited in aftermarket assistance. I don't believe the "hunter" model even has a threaded barrel. The stock and pistol grip are standard parts and can be replaced with any AR parts. The trigger is standard as well... Maybe get the barrel threaded (5/8"x24) and add a muzzle device???
  16. I'm a Merrell fan big time. I love their MOAB mid boot. I think I have two pairs. Besides being my daily shoe, I also wore them in my hiking trip through the Sierras. If they came in all black I'd wear them on duty too . The North Face makes the Hedgehog boot. It was the most comfortable boot I've ever worn on duty 12+ hour shifts and it still felt like I was wearing clouds on my feet. Only problem was, they didn't hold up long. My left boot wore out from the shifter on my motorcycle. Then the soles went out shortly after. I literally wore them till they were slicks. Now I just bought a pair of Salomon 3D Forces GTX. This boot is taking some getting used to. I really like it, but this flatfoot really has flat feet. The boots have a sturdy arch inside that's just killing me. I've only worn them three times, so I'm sure it's nothing some Dr Scholls gel inserts won't fix. They were really snug/narrow when I bought them, and I was worried about that from others reviews. The boots relaxed after one day of wear and they are just fine now. I really really like their laces. It's just a pull string with a lock. Very very very fast on and off. The gortex is light and keeping my feet dry and cool in this hellacious heat.
  17. How many 0's do yall think are gonna be on that check? I'm thinking they're gonna have to forgo formalities, skipping a hand written check, and use an extra small typed font, just to fit the whole number in the box. Last time I was in Orlando, at Disney World, I saw gators everywhere. Even saw a roadkill gator on the highway... that had to be good bounce! A lot bigger than those Texas speed bumps.
  18. Like owning a 10/22 or a Rem 870... Everyone needs a gun chambered in 7.62x39
  19. Badger latch might be your only option for now.
  20. I'd contact Proof Research over Christiansen... I have a Proof/ABS barrel (their earlier model) and I love it. Krieger or Criterion both make great barrels too. Faxon barrels are much lighter and are getting good results. LaRue and LMT make an extremely accurate barrel, but they're hefty... and $$$
  21. I have one on my AR, my 12 gauge and my AK. They carry great, but we're not designed to be carried slung over one shoulder. It was designed to carry the rifle across the body, muzzle down.
  22. I looked up the longest handguards I knew about, and couldn't find any longer than 15". That one above is pretty damned close to what you're looking for... and it's a good looking HG!
  23. We talked about it in the past. The licensing is very costly and we're not a large revenue site. We take pride in catering to smaller, every day, regular Joe, types of shops. It's because we're not associated with that app that we chose to provide the most user friendly mobile option.
  24. I have the 5.56 version. I keep knocking around the idea of getting the 300Blk/7.62x39 version. It's a great scope for the price. If you're not trying to do "serious" shooting, then it's more than adequate. A comparable scope from any of the big names would easily be $1k.
  25. Change ammo. It's pressure not gas. I used to split the neck on some hot .44 mag reloads. Chuck a chamber brush into a power drill. Then spin that SOB in there for about 1/2 minute to a full minute. That should loosen up and clear out the chamber for easier cycling. Try to hand cycle a full magazine. No firing, just rack-rack-rack-rack-etc. Any snags? Chamber ok?
