I've got a buddy up in Minnesota right now (he's from here in AZ), that is going through an inheritance settlement after a death in the family. He's actually shipping firearms today (few hours ago). Once he gets back, I'll have to ask him what he had to go through. I know he was shipping UPS, and the store policy was that they would only ship to a FFL. He's not "transferring" them - they're his now, and he's simply shipping them to himself, here in AZ. They're not changing ownership, so he should have been able to UPS them to his doorstep. <dontknow> He'll be back in a few days, so I'll see what the story/details of everything was.

Direct contact would be your best bet, but a phone call - talking to a human - would probably be the better option, before email. It's hard to verbally talk to someone and skirt an issue, but it's really easy to "talk around something" in email. If I was spending that amount of money on an upper and lower, I'd want to know who I talked to, what time/date I talked to them, and what they said. Not being paranoid here, but that's no small chunk of change. Hell, if I was local, I'd drive there and talk to them face to face, prior to. <dontknow>

Yes, the buffer retainer can definitely cause a no-fire once it comes loose and gets hung up in the trigger group. Definitely, it can cause a no-fire. You installed a single point attachment. When you removed the receiver extension to put that sling plate on, I'd betting that the receiver extension needed one more turn when you put it back on. That's enough, right there, to let the buffer retainer loose (one turn less than needed). I don't have pics, I haven't seen the mod of the single point adapter, but I'm betting that's what it is - it has happened to me. With one particular brand of AR-15 lower I built, I thought I had it right, and this exact thing happened on the range - mangled the poop out of the spring, too. I'd already built two others, already - sure enough, I checked them, and the receiver extensions needed one more turn. Now, when I build, I'll screw that receiver extension in until it won't turn anymore - it contacts the buffer retainer. From that point, I'll back it out just enough until it's lined up to mount the stock. FWIW, this can't happen with rifle stocks and rifle receiver extensions, only collapsible stocks and their receiver extensions.

You're honestly not that far from a world class shooting facility, and you can be a part of it, all the way out to 1,000 yards. Quantico. For you, it would be worth the drive (definitely NOT during rush hour...). I was in Prince William Co - Woodbridge, to be exact. You should look into the Quantico Rod and Gun Club. http://www.qrgc.org/ Might take you awhile to get in, unless you've got some MIL in your background. Club composition must be at least 1/3 MIL, and up to 2/3 civilian. The more MIL that join, the more slots for CIVs that open up. It's a ratio-thing.

Powdercoat is strong stuff. I get alot of that in the powersports arena. It does add thickness, no matter what, so just make sure that whoever does the work for you does some good taping first. You won't want that stuff on any precision-fit areas. Tape the holes the the FCG pins, the safety, the magwell, etc. If not, you'll be doing alot of "after" work to get the lower and upper together.

Even 30 or 40-thou seems like a hell of alot to me - I have no, read: zero, experience recontouring a barrel, too. I bore motorcycle cylinders. On those, even if I was immediately going to a large overbore, I only make cuts somewhere between 0.002~0.005" at a time. It's never over 2-thou once the sleeve starts getting thin, too... Just a difference in applications, and an observance on my part. I'd suck at recontouring barrels, because it would take me forever, trying to do what I do with cylinder boring... <lmao>

The Troy MRF-308 is 13.8" long, and JUST covers a short lo-pro gas block. The end of the rail is the exact same length as the PRI lo-pro gas block I have - they're flush with each other. <thumbsup>
