  1. Looks like a real picture of the .308... About a year ago, they started taking pre-orders and down payments for the .338 LM semi. All they had for details of it were computer-generated images - nothing real. I stopped following it, once I didn't see any real progress or pic of progress. http://www.fd-defense.com/fd338 Bottom line - don't know how they'll turn out, though they look nice.
  2. Won't be too much longer before we start seeing the 300BLK Remington UMC ammo showing up on shelves. Supposed to be by next month. 115grainers... Info from rsilvers: Makes me realize that I need to get off my ass and get this build finished. Regardless of completion time, once I see this stuff on the shelves, I'll start grabbing it. <thumbsup>
  3. Sweet build, mac - very nicely done. <thumbsup>
  4. Yep! December 2011 issue. <thumbsup>

Not trying to get under your skin, man, not at all. Sorry about that. I just see alot of people talking about this rifle, and it was pretty hard to even find a pic of one thus far. Just curious for more information, of any type, about it. <thumbsup>
  6. Brother, I just saw this gun on a magazine cover - I know that's yours on that cover, but I can't remember what mag is was. I'll go grab the thing tomorrow, but that's pretty damn cool! <thumbsup>
  7. Robo, how you think I got a YHM Specter gas block under a DD Mk18 RIS II rail?!... <dontknow> Modding!!! <lmao> <laughs> Don't let anyone tell you "it doesn't fit..." That poop fits. With "clearancing." <thumbsup> ;D I feel your pain. Literally.

Post pics of your rifle, or you don't have one. :o I can't believe how many people have these, and NOBODY puts up pics of them. I don't get that... <dontknow> No harm against you, z3406, but it's just another post by another owner - with no real reports. If you can, put up pics, put up pics of shotgroups, anything...
  9. Here's the Cal-Legal flowchart - this thing has been proofed so many times. This is the information you need to go by if you're a Cali resident. http://www.calguns.net/caawid/flowchart.pdf

I was only out there for 15 months, brother - about all I could take in the "DC Area." I'm right outside of Huachuca, right now. Had to come back and "slow down" a little. Rush hour is 5 minutes, and alot of businesses are still closed on Sundays. ;D I needed that. Stupid thing on my part, and I always thought I'd have the time - retired mil, and getting onto Quantico and getting a range membership was as easy as filling out the paperwork and sending it in. I always intended to do it, but decided to get the hell outta there before I ever made that happen. I wish I would have done it, just to shoot there. :-[ Likewise, if you get this way, you've gotta let me know. I've got all the lead-slingers and the lead, you'll only need to show up. <thumbsup> It'll be a good time, I guarantee.
  11. Double Star is re-branding, here. See if you can find it at a better price from the manufacturer, or under the real manufacturer's name, ACE Ltd. http://riflestocks.com/store/product8.html

I was there, man, I was there. I moved back to the desert from Woodbridge. Some cool indoor ranges there, for pistol cal firing. No rifles. I used to go out to Phelps WMA for the rifle shooting. Only 100 yards, but a nice little facility, and free to use. <thumbsup>

Finally found a pic of this beast.
  14. <lmao> I love it! <laughs> I cheat. Guide reamers for the metrics come in 0.5mm increments, and getting a custom one made would suck. I know, I'm getting custom valves made... :o I'd send off a few to get coated, measure the diameters before and after, and cut one set of guides for those two valves. Since these are 6mm stems, if the coating brought them up to 6.2mm, that would be a PITA to find a reamer for that - I'd have the newest valves made with 5.8mm stems, coat them up to 6mm, and then they're direct drop-ins... <thumbsup> I'm lazy. <laughs>
  15. I have custom valves made for race engines, and have them TIN coated. I've been thinking of having a set NIB coated and see what happens. The TIN coating does everything I need, on a critical part, and it's been working very well thus far - not one failure in the past 3 years of doing this. I'm positive the NIB coating would reduce even more friction, and wear just as well. I just wonder if they can get it on there without increasing valve stem diameter. If they can't, it'll bind in the valve guides and lockup. Also, if it's increasing diameter, what would I have to do in the valve machining process to get them to come out correctly... Questions for the coaters...
  16. From the theory of the product, it smoothes any imperfections in the barrel grooves (not the lands - can't reach 'em). That barrel that was used above was already a match barrel, according to the manufacturer, so it shouldn't have needed anything but a good shootin'. That was the 16" stainless billet build that Heather was shooting, too. I'm sure it's a good barrel, but as you know, that gun is stoopid accurate. I can't take away from the inherent accuracy of the barrel, from the factory, and I can't really claim that the Tubb FF did wonders to it,... but I can say the forst 20 rounds through it was the Tubb FF, then I started blasting with it. <thumbsup> For older barrels that have wear (which might affect accuracy), this is supposed to "even everything up," and increase the accuracy - even though there was wear. I haven't gotten to that point on any of my "accurate" barrels yet, but when they start to slip, I'll run this stuff through them again, just to see what happens. Definitely have some before-and-after-group photos of that one, too. Honestly, brother, I can't say it doesn't work, but I can't say it does work, either. I can say I have one badass accurate barrel now, but I can't trace that directly to the barrel of the Tubb FF in a definite manner. In your case, I'd shoot a few 10-rd groups into a target, run the Tubb FF through it, then a few more 10-rd groups afterwards. Just to see what happens. That would be a decent test. If nothing happens to the groups, there's not really anything to go on, besides the fact that your barrel was in great shape in the first place. If something happens, that's a certain answer. <thumbsup>
  17. Oh, snap. Nobody?... :o <dontknow> Drew, I'm seriously glad that you didn't enter Toby. Woulda been a no-contest. ;D Maybe we'll give them a little more lead time, next time. Maybe. Not. <laughs>
  18. Got a Matech rear on the kid's AR - it's cool, but I'd rather have the 1/4 moa adjustment of the NM rear, that's on the carry handle. Nobody makes a 1/4 moa rear for a flip up, or I'd look into that. I could convert one of the chopped down rear A2 bolt-ons (like the LMT) with the 1/4 moa hardware, and that's a possibility. I do like the KNS front sight blade/crosshair, though. The barrel will come with the 0.050" front sight post, so I'll try that one, but I may just switch that out for the KNS piece. <thumbsup>
  19. I want it to end up along the lines of this one, but stooopid accurate. <thumbsup>
  20. Due to UPS shipping vs. PO Box addresses, my wood was delayed. <laughs> Got all that figured out this morning, and my wood is scheduled to arrive next Monday. <thumbsup> As soon as it gets here, I'll have a short review (along with pics) posted directly. I did the laminated birch setup from Precision Firearms, in brown and tan. This is the 20" barrel I'll be using - Rock River National Match 20" SS heavy barrel, 1:8 twist, .223 Wylde chamber: I know I stated "A2" as the build, but it will actually be the A4. Flat top upper with detachable carry handle. What I'll probably end up going with, though kinda expensive, is the RRA NM carry handle with the 0.040" peep, and 1/4 x 1/4 MOA adjustments. That upper front sight base, above, already comes with the skinny NM front sight post, something like 0.050" wide. Gonna be a fun one, me thinks. :o <laughs>

  22. Very cool, man. <thumbsup>
  23. I like the stuff, myself. After I tried it the first time, I've used it on every new barrel on every build since. Here was an update: Came from this thread: http://308ar.com/forum/black-rifles/isn't-this-how-it-always-starts/msg4191/#msg4191
