Never had any issues with lithium batts, ever. Even used the old-skool ones in our radios, back in the .mil days. BA-5590s and BA-5598s. Just don't throw one of them in a pond, and make sure the spares are water-proofed AS FUK before you try to swim with them...

Barrel Gas Port Size,308/338/260/243 etc.
98Z5V replied to survivalshop's topic in 308 AR - What You Need To Know
^^^ That's interesting, right there, brother. They went skinny on that journal size, down to a .625", and they upped the port diameter to compensate. That combo with a standard .750" journal would be a 0.070" gas port. They thought about that one. -
There's no "I think" to reloading... You're new to reloading, it's obvious, because your dad set all this up, and you stated that he followed all the instructions - which means he's not that experienced in reloading, either, if he was following instructions - and not "reloading instinct." All your brass needs to be trimmed to the exact same length, to apply the crimp, with the sizing die (if it has a crimp feature built into it). That's the hazard of those things, if you don't trim your brass to the exact same length, before that reloading operation - then you don't get the same crimp on them everytime. Longer brass - when you run them through that die - bulges the base of the shoulder, and the cartridge doesn't load into the chamber. That's something that easily felt in the press, and it's something that's easily seen, in the brass, when you take it out of the press. The bottom of the shoulder is bulged. That's why you look at every piece of brass that comes out of the press, everytime. There's alot of unanswered questions here, and now it's all about reloading... This just turned into a different animal, in this thread.

So, how'd that work out for you? You obviously were NOT an NCO, if "you had an NCO" that did this, and then you kicked his ass...

What kind of racism in the military did I even elude to, in what I posted, in the first place?! Oh, and what do YOU know that I BELIEVE?...
-
I did 21.5 years, in some really cool units, and I don't know what the fuk you're talking about... How long did you serve?
-
Now, here's MY OPINION on this. USSOCOM, altogether, and across ALL individual branches of the military that fall under them - they have ALOT of Civilian workers. ALOT. Some jobs are routine, some jobs, at the top of the hierarchy. If you want one of those jobs that somewhere ABOVE ROUTINE, then you needed to serve in some capacity, INSIDE USSOCOM, in your MILITARY life. Yeah, I said it - you needed to BE IN USSOCOM, in your "past life." And not talking about "just got through it." You needed to FUCKING EXCEL AT IT. You needed to be a badass, that went way above and beyond any "recognized standards" that there were, for the unit that you were in. That needs to be a JOB PREREQUISITE for the Higher-Level Civilian Position INSIDE USSOCOM that you are applying for. Period. After we meet that gate - we'll talk about your Education, that you think qualifies you for this job position that you're applying for. I'm telling you now, there is NO SHORTAGE for Former-SOF guys that have Master's Degrees in Human Resource Management - that they worked their asses off for once they either got out or retired out. And they picked this complete shiit-fuk?... That's my rant, right there. Kick this shiibag STRAIGHT to the curb, and FUCKING HIRE SOMEONE THAT'S ALREADY QUALIFIED TO WORK AT THAT HEADQUARTERS IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!...

I just can't bypass this piece of news, without posting it. I'll have a follow-up post, after I drop this article... From SOFREP... Did SOCOM Hire a Woke Commissar? by John Black 13 hours ago This past week, U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) gave way to political pressures again by announcing their new Chief of Diversity & Inclusion on Twitter. The position will be held by Mr. Richard Torres-Estrada. According to USSOCOM’s Twitter post, “USSOCOM welcomes our new Chief of Diversity & Inclusion, Mr. Richard Torres-Estrada. We look forward to his contribution in enhancing the capabilities and effectiveness of #SOF through diversity of talent, helping us recruit the best of the best. #QuietProfessionals” This is a joke of a position to make politicians on the hill feel better. While I have nothing against Mr. Torres-Estrada, what in the world do we need this position for? U.S. Army has been around since June 14, 1775 — more than a year before the Declaration of Independence — and never felt the need for such a position until now. But why now? Did President Trump divide the country so badly that now that we have a Democrat in office, we have to appease everyone by making up a fictional position to keep the politicians happy? Since its official establishment, the U.S. Army has played a vital role in the American nation’s growth and development. Drawing on both long-standing militia traditions and recently introduced professional standards, it achieved the new republic’s independence in an arduous eight-year struggle against Great Britain. At times, the Army provided the lone symbol of nationhood around which patriots rallied. None of which relied on diversity and inclusion. The Military’s purpose is to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me.” How does SOF meet targets and goals for diversity in a highly selective volunteer system? The servicemembers these politicians want to see volunteer simply aren’t volunteering to do the job. It seems that servicemembers who value diversity and inclusion will not find it in SOF, which demands strict conformity within and to a tight culture. It’s like wondering why more white people don’t join the NAACP. The bottom line is that special forces don’t give a crap about race, religion, gender, sex, or anything else. It’s an all-volunteer force with a strict set of standards. Anyone from anywhere can join if they meet these standards. So let’s take a quick look at the person they selected, Mr. Torres-Estrada. The image above was taken directly off Mr. Torres-Estrada’s Facebook page. One person commented, “You should remove this. Your posting shows us all that you are not fit for your job. You are causing division with pathetic postings like this. You should be ashamed of yourself for causing more problems in this country. I hope and pray you will clean up your social media and have respect for others.” In February 2019, he posted the above drawing showing similarities between communism and democratic socialism. In 2018 Mr. Richard Torres-Estrada posted a GIF implying he was preparing “weed.” Maybe we should start with a drug test for the new hire. Again, SOCOM tweeted out, “We look forward to his contribution in enhancing the capabilities and effectiveness of #SOF through diversity of talent, helping us recruit the best of the best.” First of all, this person doesn’t recruit anyone, and anyone wishing to join SOF wouldn’t listen to the career HR person anyway. Is there not a qualified candidate for the job? Someone that isn’t preparing weed or has strong political feelings. Shouldn’t this job require a very neutral and objective person? But then again, I think the job is a massive waste of money to keep politicians quiet. What’s the number of the fraud waste and abuse department? Rest In Peace Full Metal Jacket’s Gunnery Sergeant Hartman who said, “There is no racial bigotry here. Here, you are all equally worthless.” About John Black John Black is a retired Special Forces "Green Beret" with more than 20 years of experience in the military at both 5th SFG(A) and 3rd SFG(A). Additionally, he has ten combat deployments in places such as Iraq, Kurdistan, Afghanistan, and countries throughout Africa. He has a degree in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis and is currently working on his Masters.

Verifying I'm on the right path - gas port dia.
98Z5V replied to phexAnex's topic in Building a .308AR
Experience in this one, brother?... OP - Variable-speed drill, SLOW on the speed, let the bit eat - let it do it's job. LIGHT pressure on the drill - you're not punching a new hole in a 3/8" hardened steel plate... -
I know you have a better lube than Mobil 1 - I sent you some. If you need more, let me know, brother.
-
We're loading for the one on the left in this pic, correct? That's the 911gr sub projectile. That one on the right is the SUPER-HEAVY...

Give me a heads-up, brother, so I can give my boss a heads-up - and I'm on the way. I'm SO IN ON THIS... it ain't even funny...

Or, you can do it yourself - and rely on the numbers that you get, instead of what someone tells you was supposed to go into the gun. PSA is famous for this - "it's THIS..." and, it's NOT. You can take it apart and measure and weigh everything yourself. That's the best way to go. Your gas tube length is good. Run with scissors on that part of it.

That's something that you only need to experience ONCE IN YOUR LIFE... to learn from... Pain teaches lessons. That's what kids today don't understand, and will never comprehend. They need to get some broken bones, fucking around doing something that they weren't supposed to be doing. Today, all the "Helicopter Parents" that run after them - not letting them eat a piece of dogshiit or get fucked up diving off the top of the jungle gym... - they're doing their own kids a huge disservice. Let 'em be STUPID. That's where all the REALLY IMPORTANT LESSONS in life come from... Just realized I was on a Rant...

Brother, I will not lie. I've been hoarding USGI magazines since 19 December 1989. We got a brand new issue of mags to take into Panama. They didn't care about out previous issue of mags... (nice... these bitches are MINE now). I left that unit in 1991. That was when I left the first duty station where they said "Keep those, they're all worn out..." I got my first basic load GIVEN to me!!! AGAIN!!! WooHoo!!! It was even better in SF - every so often, we'd get a new issue of mags. Ask the Armorer, "What are we supposed to do with the old ones?..." Answer, "I don't care, I was told to issue all new mags to everyone..." Score... I retired in 2007. I don't know how many issue mags I have, no idea. In 2009~2010, I started converting them all over to the "new" (then) MagPul rebuild kits. New springs, MagPul followers, etc. It took me year of "monthly budgeting" to convert all those mags - and I put them in several boxes, stored them away. We should have learned this from O'Buttfuk. He was the best Gun Salesman in US history. Seems like the combination of Fake Pandemic, Riots In The Streets last summer, and Smokin' JoeBama have stoked sales even higher, than ever before - and now, for as long as I can remember - it's affected reloading. I don't ever remember all this Panic-Shiit affecting reloading before. But, it's sure fucked up now, if you reload. After Sandy Hook in 2012, Varget powder dried up. I even asked a guy at SHOT show in 2014 about that - he said they were making 5000lbs a month, and it was shipping. With all their other stuff that they make. None. I switched over to Alliant RL-15, and never looked back. Flash forward to now - One of my best reloading shops had to charge me $200 for a 5lb jug of RL-15 last month... Because he can't buy in bulk anymore. Onesies and twosies, when he can find it - but he saved it for me. I paid full HAZMAT fees for that single 5lb jug, too. It is what it is, right now. I had to drop $100 for a brick of CCI 41s. That was $45, in normal times - when the reloading shop received a pallet of them, once a year. Now - he gets a brick here, a brick there - and pays individual HAZMAT fees for every shipment. It's not their fault, and I KNOW there are "price gaugers" out there - but they're not all doing that. It just costs more for them to do business right now, because Panic...

The PRS is now on the 3rd Generation, and can be mounted to a rifle receiver extension or a mil-spec carbine receiver extension. We need to know what you have for a recoil system, not what the stock is. And, the full specs on the recoil system. Receiver extension internal depth, buffer length, buffer weight, spring relaxed length with coil count, wire diameter... Gas port diameter on that barrel is gonna need to be 0.088"~0.093".Where does the gas tube end in the upper receiver. Pull the BCG out and take a pic that shows where the gas tube ends in the upper.

I got tracking numbers on the 3 things I'm waiting on for this EPC-9, to test-fire it. BCG gets here Friday, but we'll already be out there by a full day. The barrel label was created, the rail label was created - both awaiting pickup, so no delivery info available yet. At least with this Space Baby available today, I can get some good mags that are ready to go, right from Noveske, for that 1st one. I have 10 UZI 32-rd mags that I picked up surplus, and modified them. Marking the template, and cutting those bastards - that truly sucks.
-
Did I REALLY just slip up like that and out my OWN SELF?!... I think I did... Here's where the NEXT AR-9 is, for progression - Battle Arms Development 9mm BCG is on the way, Ballistic Advantage 8.3" barrel on the way, GunTec USA rail on the way: I don't think the parts for it will get here for next weekend, though. So, shooting it will have to happen later. I don't imagine that everything will show up by Wednesday, or even Thursday. If the stuff does make it, I'm already planning on stealing the red dot from Pinky, just to shoot this thing...
-
The Noveske Space Baby is available on 29 March... so, in the next 20 minutes?... Looks alot like my first AR-9, but with a shorter 5"-ish barrel. This one is an 8" barrel.

Great news, right?! Yes, in a way - if you buy load manuals. I do. N What this means, though, if you don't buy manuals, and search for load data online... Hornady only has the Errata Data page up, to include NEW load information that is not in their latest printed hardcover manual. All the Errata Data goes away, immediately upon offering the new hardcover manual for sale. This data right here, all this stuff came out AFTER the publication of the (current latest) Hornady 10 Manual. That's the one reason it's here on their website. https://www.hornady.com/support/load-data/ So, what I'm saying is simple - if any of you load (or anticipate loading) any of the cartridges on that webpage, but do NOT intend to buy the new Hornady 11 Manual - then you better save those load-data pages before that book is published. Once it's available, that info will be in it - and that web page will be blank. The next thing to pop up on that webpage will be the next new cartridge, after the 11 Manual hits the shelves.

Pretty damn great idea, man!
-
I might switch to that. Great idea. Function test this weekend, with the spring change, maybe another (Red) spring change after that. It runs great, and has for years. Just once in awhile it doubles up. Once I solve that, it's done. It only doubled on people that had lazy trigger fingers, but the concern was that it did it in the first place, lazy finger or not...

Chillin' in the Reloading Shed, making sure I've got all my shiit together for next weekend. I've got this looping while I crank out 5.56 right now...

These Odin adjustable buffers are pretty damn cool. I'm glad they did this. Makes tuning and checking a whole lot easier. My old Olympic Arms AR-45 might end up getting my Odin AR15 Heavy adjustable buffer - we'll see. It used to double up sometimes with an H3 and stardard carbine spring. Now it's got a Sprinco Orange in there, and the H3. If it doubles up again with this combo, I'll try the Red spring and see. After that - the Odin heavy goes in there. The Oly Arms setup uses a different bolt/BCG configuration - it's not a flat-faced BCG like other pistol stuff out there - it actually has a bolt in it that's non-reciprocating - roll=pinned into the BCG body, just a standard AR15 BCG. Because of that, if you use a PCC-specific longer heavy buffer, it won't lock back on the bolt face, it'll only lock lack on the BCG body - not enough BCG travel to lock it back right, with a pistol buffer. So, you're stuck with a 3.250" buffer to get it to cycle right.
