That big fucker is bowing the shelf, and you can see that from the 1" straight hanger rod below it - it's not empty, fucker... I haven't opened it - I just put it up there when it came in with your name on it. Thing might be a vacuum cleaner for all I know - but it wouldn't bow that shelf like that if it was... You shoulda seen the GIANT boxes that Amazon shipped those ammo crates in - I REGRET taking them out of the boxes... That would have made the pic EVEN MORE EPIC!!!... Shiit, that's right - I didn't open the other side of that closet... 🤣

Even your car steering wheel will do it over time, if it was a "rubberized-kinda" steering wheel, and it's an old car. Last 20 years-ish, car manufacturers figured it out, so it's not as common, unless it's an OLD car. Tractors - forget about it. Grab the wheel on an old tractor, that lives it's life parked out of the barn - same shiit as those grips I posted above... It's chemical composition more than anything - does it resist UV, and does it resist the acids in oils from your skin... If not, it's gonna be like old tractor steering wheels and MX grips...

Combined with you, you acidic bastard...

Bad juju here. You buy the wrong mount size for the scope diameter? I'm betting on 30mm scope tube (that specific Vortex you mentioned) and 34mm mount. 20 in/lb should have locked that sucker DOWN in the mount.

That's comparing Lions to Buffalos. Vastly different animals, even though both are mammals.

It's not even a firearm, in kit form. There's nothing that anyone can say about it. In it's kit form, you cannot assemble it into a workable firearm by adding a complete slide to it - you can't even put a slide on it. In it's kit form, it's only 80% of a firearm, but it's a pile of junk if you don't do something else with it. I wouldn't travel with the tools to complete it, in a carryon, and you'll never get a complete slide in a carryon, no way, not TSA. Won't happen. There's nothing that you can do with a P80 kit, in checked luggage, and it's not a firearm. It would be smart-as-fuk to declare it, and have it in a locked bag - just like you'd do with flying any other firearm. Which happens daily, legally, all over this country.

I can't fucking stand the fear-induced counter-argument of "Do you KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO PICK UP AND MOVE EVERYTHING?!!? I'm pretty fucking well versed on it, so, YES, I do know...
-
It's easy, really, and it's already happening to New York State. Leave. Thousands are doing it, but they're doing it over money. At some point, something motivates people to stop dealing with SHIIT, and vote with their feet. Money is the current motivator, and there's alot of people getting sick of NYS taxes - they primarily move to Florida. Let's just hope that they don't "Take their Politics" with them, and appreciate what they moved for. People always battle back - "YOU know how hard it is to pick up and MOVE EVERYTHING?!" Fuk yeah, I do. I was in the Army for 21.5 years and I moved 20 times. The longest I was in one place was 5 years, then 4 years - same exact place, too, but I had to go eat some shiit in Korea because "I was at that location for too long." Go suck that shiit-sandwich in Korea - again, for the 4th time, and "come back home." So, wrap your head around that one - I lived in 3 or 4 states in a year, some years. TDY Enroute to the next duty location, long schools at each stop. Yeah, I DO KNOW how hard it is to pick up everything and move, and alot of my destinations were not my choice. That's where others have an advantage. You get to pick where you want to go... If AZ pissed me off bad enough, with HALF the gun laws that the other Draconian States have/are enacting, I'd drop this place like a hot potato, and move the fuk out. No regrets, no second thoughts, and no fear. I'll make myself work, where ever I am. I'll dump this and move to Freedom. Just like I did when I left the DC area after 15 months - FUK that place. I moved my ass back to AZ, where there still IS Freedom. I loved Cali when I lived there, twice, but that was late '80s, early '90s. I'll never be able to afford living there again, but I still love visiting the place. I'd never make the decision to move there, no matter how much I loved it there. Same for Washington. I spent most of my military career in Washington, and I loved that state. Never again, though - Libs took over and fucked that state up. I want to be able to live there again, so bad, but there's no way I'll ever do that while the idiots running that state - for years - continue to run it in the ground. That's the only place I've ever been where I could scuba dive the Puget Sound on Saturday, then go skiing on Crystal Mountain on Sunday. Then take a week off and just 'wheel the Jeep in Elbe Hills and Evans Creek... Heaven, until it was wrecked by ignorant politicians. Just LOOK at Seattle now - it's "Little Los Angeles" and "Little San Francisco..." Fuk that. Vote with your feet. If you have a portable skill, you'll still have that skill - in another state. If you want Freedom - then just Free yourself from the bullshiit. Just don't drag years-worth of politics with you, and trash where you move to. That's called San Antonio, Boulder, etc.

Brother, if you want to see some reviews, check THIS out... Mind-blowing... https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Palmetto-State-Armory/reviews https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Dc-Machine/reviews -
I'm responding in colors... Your color I highlighted, my colored answer... Show a pic of that ejector face, first. It's square, I guarantee that. Something caused that, the the square ejector was the reason, but there were alot of other contributing factors that made that square-faced ejector eat that brass up like that - that's as bad as I've seen, on my own stuff before, and I had to file that shiit out of the brass in order to use it again. You do need to address the recoil system, and that will make you address the shortcomings in the gas system, afterwards. Building a fully functional gun, that doesn't kick the shiit out of you (a proper recoil system for a .308AR, with a balanced gas system for a .308 AR), is the number one goal. After that, and after shooting it - you move to smaller things that suit your preference - like brakes and what-not. If the recoil system is proper, and handles the weight/mass of a .308AR BCG and the power of a .308 Win cartridge cycling, and the gas system is balanced to that - then a .308AR is one soft-shooting rifle. Any .308 Win bolt gun that you pick up will impart more felt recoil on you than any AR-platform should... That pic of that gun above is the best, recent accuracy that I can state about Ballistic Advantage - can't even say enough about it. Brand new barrel, 16" 6.5 Grendel, going so-damn-near MOA at 500 yards - right out of the gate. Not even a seasoned or broken in barrel. They make great barrels, or I wouldn't have done that. All that lateral dispersion was probably me, too, with the 7" wide on that group. That group you saw had 12 rounds through a brand new barrel to zero a scope. Then it had 10 rounds through it to confirm zero - all at 100 yards. It then went straight to 500 yards. I'll be testing a new caliber (to me), on a new Ballistic Advantage barrel, very soon. Results will certainly be posted. I went with the BA barrel based on my experience with them so far. They've never let me down. I've never heard anything like that about BA barrels. Links to what you're talking about, in reference to that, would be awesome. I've never, ever had issues like that from any of the BA barrels that I have. Not even close. One Criterion barrel, a match barrel from Fulton Armory, 18.5" .308 Win Barrel, 1:10" twist, Fulton's "Hybrid Chamber" - it's a Match Grade barrel from Fulton Armory, made by Criterion from 2010 . It's just as badass as the BA "Premium Series" and Faxon "Match" barrels that I have in .308 Win (and alot more of the BA Premium barrels I have in other calibers). They're all good. There's a reason I've gone with the BA Premium barrels recently, though - I have enough of them to say that they do not let me down, in the least, any caliber, and always surprise me with what they're capable of. Had I had more Criterions? yeah, maybe. More Faxons? I'll always go to Faxon, if they have a profile or combo that BA doesn't - and I want it. The Criterion is great - but I don't look at them first anymore, with the quality that BA and Faxon put out. I have no reason to. Testing groups on paper at 100 yards, looking for something that's super tiny with a 3-rd or 5-rd group... I don't believe that's "accuracy" per se. Too many factors. Get that thing out at some distance, and see what it does. Get some wind involved, and some distance. 500 is my minimum distance, after zeroing at 100 yards - I almost always set up scoped rifles for 100 yard zero, with few exceptions. See what that thing does at distance, IMHO. That will tell you more about accuracy than anything else. This brand new 16" Grendel barrel from BA just put down 12 rounds to re-zero a scope that I took off another rifle to shoot the basic build, then I put another 10 rounds in a mouth-sized space on an ISPC plate - then I took it straight to 500 yards. 5" x 7" group. I'll take that all day long, from a brand new barrel. That tells more about the barrel than anything else. They definitely don't make bad barrels, or that wouldn't have happened. Consider it with confidence. I have no doubts, anymore.

Look at Ballistic Advantage as well. I have one .308 Win Criterion barrel, and it's badass, but it was from 2010. Most of my stuff recently has been BA, with a few Faxon Match barrels mixed in. All of my BA barrels have exceeded my expectations. Hit the banner for then at the top of every page. I'm not advertising for them, but last Jan I had someone from BA tell me about a new barrel they were making, and I called the shop right away - the poor lady that answered the phone had no idea what I was talking about, and couldn't find the barrel. After a 10-minute hold on the phone, she came back on, stated they weren't even in full production, definitely not announced (and they had no pricing on them), but that the person she talked to said I could have one if I wanted it. I just gave her credit card info... It arrived 4 days WITH a pinned gas block and gas tube, at 40% lower than they "announced" the barrel at more than a month later... I pulled that barrel for about $150 shipped, with the pinned gas block and gas tube. This is the barrel: https://ballisticadvantage.com/16-inch-65-grendel-spr-mid-ss-premium-barrel.html With less than 30 rounds through it total, I put it out to 500 yards - zero cleaning, zero "barrel break-in BS" - not even a patch through the barrel during firing (I did bore-snake it before I installed it). I just shot it, straight. At 500 yards, it layed in a group that was 5" high and 7" wide. Based in what I've experienced from Ballistic Advantage, they will be my go-to barrel from the get-go, on any build. That was a brand new barrel that did that, "unseasoned" and whatever. It definitely wasn't "broken in" yet... Here's the thread on the gun: Here's the thread on the initial range report - there's lots of other chaos in this thread, too... With the ungodly customer service I've had from them, the incredible hookup on that brand new production barrel, pre-production, and the results I've had from them - they will always be my go-to first, for a barrel. If they don't make it or can't/won't make it, but Faxon does - I'll jump right on that Faxon and not even think about it twice. Those are my companies, and they've proven it to me. My 12.5" Grendel barrel is a Faxon - and the performance from that thing blows my mind... My $0.02...

Those ejector smears are leaving some pretty serious edges on them. You wouldn't even be able to put that used brass into a reloading die, unless you filed that stuff down first - it wouldn't go into a reloading shell holder all the way. Been through that. That's from a square ejector face, and the bolt trying to unlock too soon (both of those things). Bolt trying to unlock too soon is a "timing" issue. That can be a recoil system that's too light, or a gas system that's too strong - or both. Or, third option - some SERIOUSLY hot loads... Recoil systems and gas systems absolutely must be balanced, to function properly. These aren't race guns. Race guns have their place, with ultralight parts, small gas ports, adjustable gas blocks, etc. Race guns also run ONE load through them, for competition use, and it's either a tailored load for that specific gun, or all that gun's ultralight parts are made for a specific factory load... I just talked about those kinds of ejector smears, recently, and I've been through it myself, with some .338 Lapua Magnum ammo...

We already know that you have acids in your sweat - some more than others. On that note, if some of your equipment has been exhibiting signs of this "deterioration..." ...Don't leave your dick in the sun too long...
-
-
It's UV deterioration, guys. The only people that have (kinda) figured this out are car manufacturers. It affects everything, and people that have dirtbikes or quads know all about it. As soon as your badass grips get sticky, they're gonna start leaving black poop on your hands or gloves. Then you get new grips before the next ride. Not saying you can just "get new grips" for these things, but it's the breakdown of the rubber over time, mainly from UV, and partly from the acids in your sweat. This is the very reason I stopped using any of the MagPul "+" grips, the rubberized ones. First time I had one get "sticky" on me, I knew what was happening. Been through enough dirt grips to know what was up. Maybe I'm just an acidic sweaty bastard, or I leave my stuff in the sun too much - but that's it.
-
Yep, that's even starting to affect me, in some ways - I'm feeling "inadequate" a little... I won't say I'm running out of closet space - but that fucker is definitely putting a dent in available square footage... It won't be long, and I'll start to "need" to use the shelves... Scary thing is - I know he hasn't even started yet... I think it's time for an update pic...
-
Here's exactly what I'm talking about - it should look exactly like this, right here - this is what proper gas tube length looks like, which is direct reference on proper drilling of the (common) gas port positions, to work with common gas tube lengths:

^^^ Perfect pic up there, I'm stealing this one for something else...

The products are hit or miss - or should I say the barrels and their accuracy are hit or miss. I have an accurate stainless steel 6.5 Grendel barrel that's 16" and carbine gas, in the M4 profile. It works well. We have another member with the exact same barrel, and the accuracy out of that barrel sucks. BCA has a lifetime guarantee on their barrels, and accuracy with match ammo, and that guarantee can be utilized. They'll honor it. They'll send you a new barrel - just send them the proof (which is kinda hard to do, but possible). Don't let THEM tell you the accuracy of the barrel. I talked to them at SHOT last year - the owner. He stands behind his lifetime guarantee. I specifically asked him how they can make the barrels that they do, for the prices that they sell for (not MSRP prices). His answer was simple. For decades, they were in the OEM auto parts manufacturing game - they made OEM-compatible auto replacement parts. They own all their own equipment (it's not leased, rented, or being payed for). They own all the equipment, and all their building, land, etc. They don't make payments on those things. They realized how much specialized equipment that they had, and decided to use that equipment in another direction - support the firearms industry. Yeah, they needed a few more machines, here or there - so they just outright bought them... That's how they can do what they do, for the prices that they do it. If your barrel accuracy sucks - contact them about it. If you need proof, and you have an inaccurate Grendel barrel - send it to me. I'll give you the accuracy proof that you need to show that the barrel isn't accurate. I have five different flavors of these things that DO shoot, with the exact same load. The one BCA that I have holds it's own with the other (2) BA Premium barrels and (2) Faxon Match barrels. BCA ain't bad - but if you have a bad one, just exercise their guarantee... -
This was excellent, brother. Right on.

Colt is who owns the "AR-15" moniker. Just putting that out there.

What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2
98Z5V replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
Shoot that .22 TCM at some AR500 steel targets, before you fully make that determination - see what it does to the steel. Once you put a mag downrange into a decent plate, it might change your mind a little... -
P.S. You don't necessarily need a brake on the end of that barrel. You'll have to get the recoil and gas systems working correctly before you can make that determination. Don't spend the money on the brake right now, as it needs spent in other areas first. Hope that makes sense.

You shooting a carbine recoil system or rifle recoil system? What kind of buttstock is on there? Fixed buttstock like an A1 or A2, or is it a collapsible stock? Disregard - I went back through the post and saw the pics. So, yes, you need the Armalite AR-10 Carbine Recoil System - this one is cheaper than possibly attempting to piece together everything: Armalite AR10REKIT01 is the part number. https://www.armalite.com/product/ar10rekit01-6-position-receiver-extension-kit/ Now, this is especially important, right here. For PSA to get a 20" rifle gas system barrel to even perform and cycle with that superlight recoil system that they put in it, the HAD to make that gas port in the barrel undersized. You need to take that gas block off the barrel, and verify the gas port diameter - I'll be you need to drill that port UP in diameter, because it's gonna be too small. Next, where does your gas tube end, inside the upper receiver? Is should end directly in the center of the cam pin cutout in the upper, which is that half-moon looking cutout space in the upper, the space needed for the cam pin to rotate and lock the bolt in the barrel when cycling. See if you can get a pic of that put up - a pic straight down into the upper receiver, BCG removed. Straight down over the end of the gas tube. Don't make your Armalite Order yet - you'll probably need to add an AR-10 rifle gas tube to the order...
