Gone last weekend over a 4-day to recon the planned hunt area this fall, with GP John. Northwest of Phoenix, up in the mountains, base elevation about 4600 feet going up to 6000 feet - that's the hunt range, even though it goes up higher in the area. Left after work on Friday night, hit the road at 7pm. Pulled in to the property at midnight. Scared the fuk out of a fatass black bear around 11pm that night - he didn't know whether to shiit, run, attack us, or just shiit - so he ran his fatass straight up the road and dove up an embankment, tearing in with all four paws to get away. I knew it was gonna be a good weekend... Only had cell comms ONCE during the weekend, on top of a high hill - and THAT was nice!... Here's daybreak on Saturday morning, looking at the cabin: Here's looking the other way, back at the 2k sq ft barn: The Yamaha was the steel chariot of choice for the weekend. That loft over the barn is badass, and that was our home for the weekend. It's a bitchin' living room/bedrom combined. More later. A view of the stream out front, running right down the property: Once we got out in the hills: We made a big climb, and a long descent, and ended up at this tank up in the hills: Someone set up a stand in the trees here - you can see it behind GP John: THIS area - was strange. We had the feeling this was mountain lion territory, so we started snooping around near the water. The Combat Tracker in me paid off, and there was a print. This thing was fresh, too - lots of moisture in the toe pad indentations. Wasn't long ago that this guy was drinking, before we got there... Comparison next to a 16oz water bottle... Not a small cat... Here's a look back at that stand in the tree that someone built, from the other side of the tank: Part 2 coming up...

Research posts made by @Lane and look at his 80%. We went through alot of measurement data when he was doing his 80.

Cheaper than a college education, man - you'll come out smarter, without all the liberal influence, and have no student debt...

I'm not sure if you're trying to say that 6.5C brass fits better in magazines than .260 Rem brass, but that's definitely not the case. There are zero issues fitting .260 Rem ammo into .308 Win mags, to full mag capacity, at all - it's the same round that the mag was designed for, just necked down to 6.5mm.

If he can fit in and out of my doggie door, I'll take him. He'll come back in camo, chewing Copenhagen, cussing like a sailor, and he'll have a new Crickett Precision Rifle... He'll learn how to adjust valve lash, test fuel pressure, tune CVT clutches, and recommend maintenance procedures to customers, too... Uncle Tommy's Summer Camp...

Stuck cases 300wsm,trouble shoot more or convert to 6.5
98Z5V replied to andrewtac's topic in General Discussion
From your first post, here's what i think is going on - that round has more speed and pressure than a .308 Win, and that thing is pushing so much gas that the bolt is trying to unlock too early, while the case is still expanded, before it has time to cool. That's sticking cases. The extractor can't hang onto that - and it's not the extractor's fault. That BCG speed has to be incredible. Weigh your BCG (or post the weight again, if I missed that). You need to up the buffer weight and spring pressure, to try to slow that unlocking time down, let that brass cool enough, and gain reliable extraction. You might even need an adjustable gas block - but that's not the sole answer. The correct buffer weight and spring strength for that speed-demon is the first step. Playing with gas block screws and limiting gas pressure is for fine tuning for a specific load - not making gross, mass adjustments in basic rifle operation. -

Buffer weight, buffer weight, buffer weight. Toss in an Armalite EA1095 spring while you're at it, just so you know what spring you're using, confirmed. That 5.2" buffer is gonna weight close to or right on 5.4oz. That's cool for controlling a .308 AR BCG, running .308 Win ammo, but that .300 WSM is pushing more power. You're rocking 500~600fps more from that WSM for the same projo weights as .308 Win loads. You need more ass and mass to control that round pressure. There's only one stop for this one, and it's Slash - Clint Butler - at HeavyBuffers.com. Call him up and tell him what's going on - he's got a buffer weight that will do it. http://heavybuffers.com/ -
The Gen 2 5.56 P-Mag was already released before MagPul made the original LR-20 mags. All original LR-20 mags followed the "Gen 2" developments of the 5.56 mag designs. Then, they updated to the Gen 3 revisions. There was never a "Gen 1" MagPul .308 mag, because they'd surpassed that technology by the time the released the LR-20s.

You got it, man - I still have to sort it all out, and have no idea how much I have...

6.5mm Grendel barrel 20 in vs 24 in question
98Z5V replied to Cunuckgaucho's topic in General Discussion
Faxon and Ballistic Advantage are both excellent in the Grendel. I have two of each, and those manufacturers don't disappoint. The BA barrels I have are the Mk12 profile in 16" and 18", and those barrels really get it done. -
Two days before we were supposed to shoot it, we mounted and leveled the scope in an 80-MOA combination. The day before were were supposed to shoot it, someone called the shop and said they'd buy it for $7k. Bummer. Kind of? Pick up was supposed to be that next week - buyer backed out. It's back in possession, original scope back on it, leveled and all. It will get it's legs stretched coming up soon - but it'll have to be an early morning shoot. We're well into the 100s now, with 108 today. 110s+ are right around the corner. We do have a verified 2 miles that we can shoot. 1760 should be a joke for this gun, if we're not battling wind.

Damn great news on the springs (esp. the Sprinco Red) and the heavier buffers - this is all learning, and it's damn great news. My views on the above - BIG difference in the guns, brother! 4.5" barrel is getting the lead out quick, even for a 180gr slow load. That 155gr +P load is moving ALOT faster, and the 16" barrel is ALOT of dwell time. Which is increased pressure... That spring and buffer can't handle that kind of pressure. I'm pretty positive that's what happened in that combo, but I'm just arm-chair quarterbacking this stuff... You know how I can shoot a .45ACP round at IPSC steel plates at 200 yards? Through a 16" barrel, is the only reason why... Oh, and because I'm not Larry...

This, but I also consider the recoil system just as important as the gas system. They both control each other. As we well know, from a three-letter gun company, you can serious screw a gun up by getting both those out of whack. Add "recoil system" to your list of performance parts, with the barrel, trigger, and BCG. No matter what you do, for the BCG, just get a ToolCraft BCG. Search online for the best price, because there are some serious deals out there on them, specifically. I'm with him, and it goes one of two ways, but comes down to one question... Do you reload? If the answer is no, then Creedmoor. If the answer is yes, then .260 Rem. Tons of different, great loads available off-the-shelf for Creedmoor. Not alot available off-the-shelf for .260 Rem, as far as accuracy loads go. I reload, and went .260 Rem over 6.5C. The .260 Rem parent case is .308 Winchester, and I've got alot of .308 match brass that is easily converted to .260 Rem. The .260 has a slight edge in case capacity, and velocity, over the 6.5C. My typical go-to shooting distances include 850 yards. The .308 bolt gun has 9.0 mils of drop at 850 on my 178gr accuracy loads. The .260 Rem has 6.5 mils of drop at the 850 with my 147gr accuracy loads (my only load for that gun). These 6.5mm projectiles far outpace the .308" projectiles, and my .260 load is supersonic to 1500 yards. My .308 Win 195gr load might change that rifle some, but it's not gonna beat that .260 load, man. My $0.02...

The 2013~2014 one. Stole all kinds of shiit when I was in the dunes during Halloween and T-Day in '14. Shiit was nuts that summer... Restraining order was what finally stopped that, when she came in to steal one last time on 19 Dec 2014. Broke in through the doggie door.

I still deeply regret missing that event. Big time. I was trying to get a nutjob out of my house during that.

Right on the money, Rob. "Doing the Right Thing" doesn't mean that you do what's expected, when people are watching you. You do what's expected, and right - when nobody is watching you...

They were GETTIN' IT DONE, brother!!! Their owner/handler was pretty badass, too...

The Army certainly didn't fuk up by selecting that Brügger & Thomet. That much is certain. If you don't know anything about their firearms, then check up on them. B&T won't put out any product that would suck...

Send that thing back to Armalite, with a list of the issues, and have them fix it. Welcome aboard.
-
I'll bet if they only made, and possessed, and not taked them out of Ks state lines - they'd be good. As soon as they "sold," they got themselves into the position of an FFL CLass 3 SOT. Which they probably weren't. Despite state law, they got on the wrong side of the BATFE as soon as they did that.

As a vouch for the barrels, Nordic Comp makes some VERY good barrels. I've got a 16" midlength 5.56 barrel that shoots the lights out, and it's almost 10 years old. This is a good product. Good luck with the sale, man.

@EugeneStoner - THANK YOU for finding that information, man! I have my Grandfather's 500 loaded with 1 3/4", and the OpSol. I have three of those adapters. I need to try one in the Moss 835, and see if it'll get that thing to run the 1 3/4"s too... The beauty of that 835 is that is chambered for 3 1/2"... Damn Bird Slayer...

I'm DOWN with the 4 Buck. That's the best shotgun round that's ever been developed. Fuk yeah!...

That is good fucking news, brother!!! Hell YES!!!
