Zebra644 Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 Looks like a Long Hunter in my future thanks Magwa.
planeflyer21 Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 Thanks Magwa! That looks like a great choice. Reading all the reviews for the different models now...looks like the man is a true craftsman!
edgecrusher Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 Damn you guys! Glad I'm poor right now, or I'd have one inbound
MaDuce Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) When it comes to blades, machines still cannot beat the performance given by skilled human hands. If the maker knows what he's doing, hand crafted blades will always perform better then anything factory made and usually by no small margin. Always go for hand made blades by a skilled and reputable maker whenever possible. BTW. His trappers hatchet looks like the first correctly built hatchet I've seen in a long time. Magwa Posted January 16, 2015 Author Report Posted January 16, 2015 yeah you can do all the skinning and quartering with a good Hawk I use mine all the time just like a ulu when you hold it by the head
unforgiven Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 Craftmanship at it's finest.I almost cut myself looking at the pics.Great find brother Mike <thumbsup> .Gonna put this on my list.
Zebra644 Posted January 21, 2015 Report Posted January 21, 2015 I will carry one in or attached to my rife case for work .
crimsonfalcon07 Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 How would you say they stack up against RMJ or Daniel Winkler? I've not had a chance to handle Devin's work in person yet.
Magwa Posted January 24, 2015 Author Report Posted January 24, 2015 (edited) I have handled all three, Devin to me makes the best Hawk for everyday use it is made to be used I am sure they are all three great hawks but I love mine and it was made by Devin.... the RMJ loggerhead might be a good everyday hawk bu8t what I have found is any spike or sharp back egde just gets hung up in bone and tissue if you want to smash something use a polled hawk like devins long hunter. crimsonfalcon07 Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 Thanks for the feedback. They certainly look like good tools.
Zebra644 Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 We are evaluating response to active shooters in schools. So whilst on the topic of tomahawks do you think they can be useful as a breaching tool such as Gerber's Down Range Tomahawk, (no I'm not buying it because I mentioned it, just giving an example lol). I don't like the idea of lugging a 30 lbs halligan tool. I looked at the Dead on, Annihilator as an example so I am open to ideas.

It's about a million times better than the "...use an improvised weapon, such as a fire extinguisher or a 3-hole paper punch" advise DHS put out a couple of years ago.
98Z5V Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 ^^^ I'd only use that if it fired from the Soda Can Cannon... Point-blank some attacker in the face with a steel-canned green bean shot... Fucking Priceless.
Zebra644 Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 Um, I don't think I can get that signed off on
Magwa Posted January 30, 2015 Author Report Posted January 30, 2015 I do not think it would work well for a breeching tool that is what a Haligan is heavy yes but the right tool for the job... the Hawk is a chopping bashing ,cutting tool designed for soft tissue and wood or it can be used for a hammer hence ,commence the bashing... LOL :)
MONTANA308 Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 I have been looking to buy a hawk here lately thanks for the info brother Magwa I came across theses the other day they look bad ass. http://www.rogueamericanapparel.com/invader-battle-hatchet/
Magwa Posted January 31, 2015 Author Report Posted January 31, 2015 A couple of things about that hawk pretty fancy to take out and bash around in the woods camp etc second the very sharp corners can get hung up easy in soft tissue, and third there is no poll to drive tent pegs or bash in a charging grizzly's skull or a zombie's skull.... for a wall hanger is is awesome but if you are going to use it in the woods I would be looking at something a bit more versitile
MONTANA308 Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 Yeah I only put up there as a show piece they look cool. I will stay with the ones you posted
