Rsquared
So, I decided to go have a little range time this morning. It's been quite a while since I've been out blasting. I figured that it would be the perfect time to go. Temp was in the high 20's and a possibility of snow looming. I thought that the time would be perfect.....since I'm an anti-social SOB, and that nobody would be around.....since most of the world is a buncha pussies and cries about the cold weather. Well....that part I hit right on the head. The place looked like a ghost town. Just the way I like it. So I figured....this is gonna be GREAT! Little did I know that the gun gods weren't gonna cooperate today. So I figured that I was gonna have a suppressed SBR day. So I took the MK18, the 10" 300 BLK and the AR-10 shorty (Laura). First up, the 300. She was running fairly well with some supersonic rounds..........at first. Then I slapped on the ol SDN6 and figured we were gonna go quiet. Changed over to the subsonic rounds slammed the mag home.............and drum roll please.......proceeded to find out that this $hit ammo wasn't gonna cycle worth a damn. Yep.....you guessed it.....my "storm the castle" short 300 with the can on the end of it became a single shot rifle. FU@K! At first I figured that she had to warm up a little, and that she would eventually brake free. "BUZZER SOUND"!!!!! Now granted, I haven't cleaned her properly in a while. But I'm still putting my money on the $hit ammo......even though I thought that I ran that crap through her before. Anyway, so I chuck her to the side with a plan of a complete stripping and thorough cleaning in her very near future. So now, I figure that I'll move over to the AR-10 shorty (my favorite almost). So I start slingin some lead down range with her, when after a couple mags, something doesn't quite feel right on the front end as I'm blasting away. So get this. That POS Rainer rail that I have on her.......yeah....the one that broke at the retaining pin before.......broke again. FU@K! That FUKER broke again.....It broke again.......It broke FUKIN again! So needless to say....that REALLY pissed me off. So this time that rail is gonna get pulled and thrown in the fukin trash. I ain't wasting my time replacing it AGAIN with the same flawed design. GREAT! Now I gotta find another rail that'll fit her. FU@K! And on top of that....the fukin Raptor charging handle I've got on her was letting go of the upper periodically while firing. I could tell by the way the thing was popping me in the nose every couple rounds. FU@K! So I gotta look into that now too. By the way.....did I say .......FU@K! If it wasn't for the MK18 running as smooth as a baby's ass, it would've been a complete loss. Oh yeah ....................................FU@K! Robocop1051
Don't break my mk18!!! Lol
blue109
that sucks. id tell Rainier to swap that rail for a standard design.
Rsquared
It broke in the exact same spot as the previous one did. Which, I think at the time, I commented on how that section of the rail looked like it (maybe) wasn't beefy enough to stand up to the beating that a 308 would hand out to it. So I'm not as much saying that Ranier blows, they suck, their stuff is junk, yada yada yada. Just this design of this particular rail. As I said, it's being pulled and being fed to the river. And no worries Rob. The MK18 saved the day. She ran everything without even a single burp. Suppressed or not. I think we'd have to actively try and break her to cause a failure. Zebra644
Give them a call from my dealings with them they seem to be a stand up company brother.
Rsquared
Oh, they were great to deal with when the previous one broke. I just don't want another replacement of the same rail. I'm gonna go in a different direction this time.
blue109
ill bet they would give you an exchange on an evo rail since its your second try. I had the Samson version and it was great rail, and took all of 30 seconds to remove. (never saw any point to a qd rail system)
98Z5V
Ron, did you try to run a few full-power rounds through the suppressed rifles that wouldn't run subsonic? Full-power rounds with the can on? That would tell you if it's the rifle, ammo, weather, whatever.
Rsquared
Nope. I'm thinking that she just needs a good stripping and cleaning, more than an ammo issue. I've run the stuff before. After all......I haven't cleaned her since I built her last year. <laughs>
DNP
Break out the MGD, light a few candles, dim those mood lights on the command center....maybe throw on a little lovin music. Then strip that dirty bitch down and teach her who's boss....

392heminut
I feel your pain brother! I too have been at the range with a gun that was in dire need of cleaning. Of course, I never remember to bring any oil so I've wiped down BCG's and then put oil on them off of the pickup's dipstick! Yeah, we do schit like that out here in the desert! :tweed: <lmao>

Rsquared
^^^^^ Nahh. You're safe my man..........you're safe. Now on another note. I'm gonna be on the hunt for another rail for the 10 shorty. That's the real problem. I can't have her down and out of action for long. And whatever I find for her next....is gonna be as tough, and as durable as she is. And so.....the search begins.

Rsquared
Now remember guys. I've got a length limit (oh yeah I said it....after all, I can only take so much <laughs>). The original intent of this AR-10 SBR build was to only have enough of the barrel extended past the rail so that the can could be attached. She's worked up to this point...but with a rail failure (two actually) after just a little under a thousand rounds fed through her. And THAT'S completely unacceptable. I didn't use nothing but Armalite and Noveske (base) parts just to have this thing let go on me. Again....completely unacceptable. I (we) will find the right type of rail to put on her. And we'll return her to the wicked, badass machine that she was meant to be. After all......that's what we do around here. Build the baddest ass, most durable and dependable AR's that's known. Especially in OUR platform. AR-10 or 308 AR alike. I chalk this one up to some equipment that just couldn't withstand the pounding that our platform puts out. WE are the one to put EVERY manufacture and supplier through their paces. WE are the one to determine what is best for us (and our brothers) in the field. WE are the one to build the best, and most withstanding AR that any man can use. Now I'm not saying that any one of us know better than any of the big name manufactures. But WE know what we need (or what we're looking for) for any particular weapon. After all............that's why we build these things isn't it? Semper Fi my brothers. Rsquared
I'm working in the background for the "proper" rail.
