Any Hams out there?

One of the things I have always wanted to do was get my Ham licence.... and as the years went by never did well I am testing this week no Morse code required now.. so I may make it .....

Was interested in that in my teens, started working to understand and send Morse code, but never got the hang of it. Might have to go back if its not needed now. Good luck with your exam.

  I have a friend that wants me to get into it & I may pick up a Hand held unit to play with this year . As far as a License ,"License,  we don't need no stinking License " <lmao>

I love my CB and always wanted to get into HAM but right now it seems like another money pit. Maybe one day.

I'd like to get mine too!  Found out recently the local radio club will let you conduct practice tests until you are able to pass, then charge a nominal fee to take the FCC exam.

 

So Magwa, are you testing for the class/level 2 license?  My understanding is the highest level still tests for Morse code.

their are 3 classes of Licence Technician, general, and general extra class, I am testing for both Tech, and General, I am not interested in the extra class

Good luck with it brother!  Never really got into it but I new a lot of guys in my old AFSC that got theirs (2E1X3).

 

I could probably help you with some of the techie stuff when it comes to HF transmissions if you have questions.

There is no longer any morse code requirement for any class of operator.

I've had the tech and general licenses but just never used them. Thought it would be good to have out in the desert where cell phone signal can be unavailable but then never had time to get out in the desert. I think it's worth getting the licenses and then you can legally use a lot of available communications -- if that serves your purposes.
