shepp Posted December 4, 2024 Author Report Posted December 4, 2024 Put the water bath canner away and pulled out the pressure canner. Used to turkey carcass and a chicken carcass to make stock, I’ve never done this much, 16 quarts total, 14 pressure canned. Next I’m going to do some meat, I saw a lady Instagram canning browned ground beef, I still have a ton from a beef we got last year and some other odds and ends in the freezer that needs to go before it gets frost burn

shepp Posted February 3, 2025 Author Report Posted February 3, 2025 Cleaning out the freezer from the half beef I got with my parents last year. Lots of people learning that the old ways of doing things are better. Found a woman pressure canning ground beef on social media Gave that a try with some onion. Then an arm roast, round roast and rump roast. Did 4 pints with onion soup mix and 5 quarts of Mississippi pot roast. Also saw someone talk about canning water to fill space to keep your jars from rattling around then you can also have sterile water just incase, @Magwa you ever done that?
Magwa Posted February 3, 2025 Report Posted February 3, 2025 I have never done the water BUT do you have to use a lid for every jar of water then that may be a bit excessive since lids are really hard to find and they cost a ton. I think just buying bottled water would be much cheaper then if you are worried about contaminants then filter it later when you need it ...

Around here lids aren't to hard to find, we have jars and lids year round again, I keep a decent amount on hand along with extra jars. I won’t get excessive with it, but some wouldn’t be bad. @blue109 just did a cool experiment with his son filtering water with his son. You should post that here some where it was super cool!
blue109 Posted February 3, 2025 Report Posted February 3, 2025 @shepp not a bad idea! it was pretty cool. Maybe I'll throw up a separate post tonight.

I get Ball lids they are they only ones that last IMO anyway i just can not see using a lid to can water the cost just seems to much and you would need cases of jars.....So this is a cool topic.....so do you water bath the water jars or pressure can them water is a living thing .... but if you microwave it it is 100% dead... not sure what pressure canning would do to it . And i guess if you lived in a desert area it might make more sense..but when you live in a area like I do water is everywhere ...... Edited February 4, 2025 by Magwa
