beachmaster
Hey guys, I thought that I might start a little build page. My first components are a Kak Industries 8" value line barrel, and bolt. I like the barrel because of the nice light profile, and I like that Kak uses a machined extractor, and the bolt doesn't require a lengthened firing pin. Both barrel and bolt are Melonite treated, which I love. What really got me motivated for a "pistol" build is the new pdw pistol brace. http://www.opticsplanet.com/sb-tactical-sb-pdw-pistol-stabilizing-brace.html In my mind, it gave me the ability to have an incredibly compact setup to keep in a bag whenever amd wherever, and it gives me flexibility. Anyways, my first thought was 458 socom, but 7.62/39 does well in short barrels, gives me capacity potential, and most importantly, I can afford to shoot it! Anyways, there ya go, this build will give me some playtime with a completely different firearms platform for my slings, and I am gonna DO IT TO IT! I'll keep yall in the loop! 98Z5V
I like that brace - very nice! Gonna be a great thread, brother.
washguy
Hey Beach The KAK parts are sweet! I bought their heavy buffer and its quality...so did ya get the lil KAK patches and lapel pins? Wash why didnt ya get the KAK blade for the pistol? beachmaster
Wash, no lapel pins or patches lol I like the kak blade for some reasons, and the Sig brace for some reasons, but there are things that I don't like about both as well. Kak Blade- I like the profile, look, and weight of it. I don't really like that it uses a set screw and isn't adjustable on the fly, you know, for when I want a longer brace. it is also thin, which is less than ideal for when I want a longer brace. Sig Brace- I like that it is wider, which is better for when I want a longer brace, but it's heavy and imho ugly as Whoopy Goldberg. And not adjustable. SB pdw brace- actual viable option for multiple style of shooting, adjustable, shorter buffer tube so it can be Super compact, and it doesn't look like Whoopy Goldberg. It looks awesome in fact imho Downside is that it won't be good for a cheek weld. and it's flippin expensive.

Rsquared
That sounds like a kickass build there Beach. And of course, we all know that you wouldn't really shoulder that thing for a good cheek weld, since that would make it an illegal SBR instead of a pistol. Dumb-ass NFA laws. jtallen83
Looks like you may be waiting a bit for that "brace", I don't see any for sale though the price is not to bad where it is listed out of stock. Being a "partner" to Sig does not bode well for the supply, Sig factory weapons will get dibs on what is produced and Sigs reputation for keeping up with demand has been poor lately, guys have been waiting 2 years for their MCX 300 BO barrels they already paid for. beachmaster
OpticsPlanet says that they expect the product to ship in 15-28 days. Do you think that that is just wishful thinking? I hope not... its kinda an important part of this build... lol
jtallen83
I don't trust anything SIG claims anymore. Might be enough seperation in the partnership but I know there are lots of MCX pistol owners and prospective buyers waiting in line. Optics Planet is a big buyer so maybe they'll get priority, maybe. Dumb-ass NFA laws. Ron, that is NOT a law! That is a determination made by the ATF. Until someone is successfully prosecuted for that all it is is a letter put out by some schithead at the ATF and is strictly an opinion of said schithead! Rsquared
True, it may be more of an opinion determined by some paper pushing A$shole. But....... 1 - Who would want to be the one to break the ice going up against the ATF challenging it? 2 - If it went sideways and you lose the battle, is it really worth being deemed a felon and having them confiscate the rest of your weapons? Just for laying a pistol brace against your shoulder? Not this guy. I've already got too many $'s tied up in NFA stuff as it is, besides all of the other stuff that I have. Besides, that's why I have SBR's to begin with. I'm not trying to argue it. But once you dip into the NFA end of the pool, you tend to be a little more broader thinking, and a little more defensive. At least I do. Mainly....because of the $hitheads.

I figure the first person to be prosecuted will get metric ton of support in the way of donations for legal fees from the shooting sector (individuals and businesses). I still wouldn't want to be the first one to test the legal waters but I can guarantee if it happens (which I seriously don't see) I will be donating to that person's legal defense fund! Rsquared
I agree with you on that one Larry. I'd donate to help out also. But I still wouldn't wanna be that guy.
sketch
Id rather have a safe cheek weld ( that looks like a sholder rest) than a misplaced shot.. Especially at 3$ a shot! My sholder wont take any abuse from my .458 ever! Its to damn short. Carry on Jacob!! sholder has bone chips floating around since 95! I should ask the atf to fix that.. Asshats, im sure i have hearing loss too. ? Edited December 13, 2016 by sketch
beachmaster
Bone chips sounds bad! You know what? I should just get some of that gun guy insurance, and shoulder the piss out of it, especially IF Trump is going to make any positive changes, and if the ATF cracks down on it, I bet there could be enough publicity and public support to make it work... Anways... screw the ATF.
jtallen83
Good chance the ATF would lose a well financed fight but that is the problem with these types of findings, the citezen should not have to put everything he has on the line to prove a point. Situations like this brace debacle are clear signs of an oppressive government, some may even call it tyrannical. If you go to court I'll donate what I can to the legal fund. hk1123
As an aside - a Draco or M92 is about that length and does wonderfully - that should make an easy to control pistol. What is the plan for the lower?
Robocop1051
There are thousands of AR and AK pistols in peoples homes right now... The GREATER majority of them have some kind of "brace" attached to the receiver extension (buffer tube)... ATF isn't coming for anyone. beachmaster
Well, right now for the lower I am thinking of throwing it all in a Tn Arms Poly lower for testing purposes. When or if that breaks, Ill throw it in a spikes tactical.
beachmaster
I just won an auction on my next build component, a diamond head polymer front sight, for $20! So now I will just need to pick up a diamond head read, and I will have saved some pennies there. I'm gonna scavenge this build together LOL
sketch
One peice at a time is still a peice of the pie! Eating the whole thing at once is over the top enjoyment but then the fun is over. Building is just as good as it gets. But i cant wait to shoot it ( shits) so i can eat more pie ( build the next one)! Your hooked man deal with it? Paa this ones got the fever... beachmaster
Your so right sketch! I built my wifes AR with you guys help, but it was 556, and I was building it for her, so it was less personal to me. It was just a light weight build. Nothing retarded, bizarre, or really special. Just light weight. This build is gonna be more my style ;-)
