Anyone lease a vehicle?

My O4 Silverado is showing signs that it needs to be sent down the road. Truck prices are stupid, used truck prices are even more stupid.

Monday thru Friday and some times on the weekends the majority of my miles on my work van. I've owned this truck 7.5 or 8.5 years and I've put 70,000 miles on this truck.

id really like to get a tundra but I think that's outta my price range, I'll probably end up with a Silverado and get my dads discount.

Ive talked to a few guys who can't think of any draw backs to leasing. Anyone got any helpful input?

Nope. Dave Ramsey calls it "vehicle fleecing" for a reason.

How old are you looking for used? Since you'll be coming out here in short order, there are a lot more older trucks available.

I would like 2012 or newer but can't touch one for under 28,000 around here. That's half the reason I'm looking for a new one is I don't trust mine to drive down there.

If you change vehicles every 2 or 3 years, leasing might make some sense. But it seems like you keep things for a while. It would be like renting the same house for 30 years.

What would it take/cost to fix your truck? Would it be significantly cheaper in the long run to keep it?

No lease^^

internet has somewhat ruined car dickering! The dealer has to compete and only lists what they need to get a profit! Id buy from a friend or dealer or other only if i can bring my friend the mechanic to look it over and ask the right questions!

last year i had to talk a buddy out of a deal of a life time on a house! He is wanting to build now!?

Moral is plan on it and stick to what you can work with. But get what you plan on.

On the other hand im looking up tundras to spend your $$

I have also been looking at Trucks & the Price of them have turned me right off , not to mention , its nice not having a Payment . My wife Mustang will be paid off this year & she wants me to get a new Truck , well its not going to happen , I'll put a new Motor or what ever it needs , before I buy another Truck . Unless I get a really , really good deal on a 4x4 ,which we know is not going to happen . :laffs:

As to purchasing a new vehicle, I will say this.

Every so often I shop new vehicles. What gets me is that trucks are the new luxury coupe.

If you are needing a work vehicle, shop for fleet vehicles. Full-size pickup trucks for fleet sales are consistently $15k to $25k less than a comparable model that is "showroom floor" equipped.

It's supposed to be a truck: scratched, muddy, dirty, worked, reliable. Worry about comfort when you retire.

You can do a frame-off restoration on most vehicles for less than half of the new vehicle sticker price. Sticker price (say that a few times). Not counting that a majority of people are going to finance the damn thing for years and pay 1/3 more than sticker price in interest.

Like Jerry Reed says, "The car is mine and mine alone, that me and the finance company own."

Your right they are I use my truck as a truck but I also like nice things. 4wd is a must need to tow a 17' boat.

Another good source is https://www.truecar.com/#/. You can search by zip code and look at both new and used vehicles with some idea of what they are actually selling for.

Don't know if you have them up there but here there are auto brokers. Within reason, name your price and they find your vehicle.

Dude I worked with bought a new Ford Explorer through one several years ago. Got it for several thousands less than the local dealerships wanted, brand new, with factory warranties, etc.

Another one here lots of people use is a used car broker. This one in particular I've seen get screaming deals on vehicles. My buddy got his '95 GMC Z71 with like 30k miles for I think $15grand, his Dad got a Lincoln Towncar with 20k miles for a song and dance. Truck was the requested color, Towncar wasn't but for the deal he got, he didn't care.

Shepp, I spent 8 months looking for my newer truck last year. Auto Trader has a better search engine than Car Soup, though I used both. Actually found some price discrepancies on the same vehicle. As you probably already know prices go Ram>GM>Ford>Toyota=Nissan. Private party used is going to be cheapest. Auto Fax or some other program of that type is your friend but not fool proof. Trucks have gone through the roof in the Midwest. I will keep my eye out around here for you. GM or Toyota, right? 2012 or newer, Price limit, say, $25,000?

I've got two guys who go to auction licenses so they're watching for me idk if that's the same as what your talking about but they get pretty good deals then charge like a 500$ finder fee

That sounds fairly close. My understanding is a broker is an authorized sales person, without having to go through a franchised dealership. They may sell new, used, whatever.
