98Z5V
Yeah, yeah, yeah... It's not done yet, but it's gotta be done by the Fall, that's certain. Major hurdle though, right here. (P.S. Matt, this means I'm not just re-barrelling another gun for the Fall, brother... ). So, Aero Precision. These weren't talked about much, just as Special Edition receiver sets. Not full on "Builders Sets,", but they were out there. I've never seen the M5 version for sale on their website, but my Gun Pusher found them. He didn't even ask me - he just ordered two sets. One for him, one for me. Bastard... https://aeroprecisionusa.com/ar15-freedom-receiver-set.html This will be the backbone for the .260 Remington. 98Z5V
Found it by searching "AP Freedom5" online, but can't find it through the website menus... LAST ONE!!! On this gun, I'm trying out a new recoil system. I'll give up some details once I get this buffer in my hands, and weigh that thing. 98Z5V
Buffer details in this thread: Here's how she's looking now. Baby steps, men, baby steps... Rob will be pleased to see that AB Arms Urban Sniper Stock on there. There is a 1.5" total buttstock length adjustment on these, in 1/2" steps. Once you set it on your carbine receiver extension, and get your true length of pull set up at the longest setting, you can then shorten this stock assembly 1.5" for transport. Pretty slick, I'm telling you. I like it already.

98Z5V
Just because it wasn't right... all those parts... I have a spare Rainier Arms Select .308 barrel, 18" midlength gas. I decided to toss it in this setup, as it sits. I'm a BCG away from being able to shoot a .308 Winchester round through this thing... I won't do it, but it makes me feel a little better... 98Z5V
I think I found ARTrooper's first post. It has to be, the way shepp was in his as$ about an intro... So, anyway, with AR-10 Carbine gas tubes out of stock everywhere, I raided one from the .338 Fed to get Gopher's gun running right. Since that gun is down, I snatched the DWilson BCG from it, and put it in this gun, just to get some basic weights. As it sits right now, it can be fired. It can't be aimed, with no sights, but it could fire some .308 Winchester through it and function fine. It's sitting at 2715 grams for the complete upper assembly, and 1362 grams for the complete lower, with an empty PMag LR-20 in it. I used grams to freak the Cali Cop out... That's a functional rifle weight of 8.988 lbs. I know the scope will be 29.6 oz (1.85 lbs), and the LaRue mount will add a little. I'll put a Vortex bubble level on it; couple oz? The .260 Rem barrel will probably be a little heavier than a .308 Win barrel (smaller bore, more metal). It'll be a pig. Tell you what, though - that AB Arms USS is keeping some serious weight off this thing. Rob is right on the money, on that stock. EDIT - Barrel-wise, it looks like the barrel weight will be a wash. Rainier doesn't make the "Select" barrel anymore, but the weight on their 18" Match barrel has the exact same profile, and it's listed at 2lb, 10oz (42oz). Wilson Combat doesn't list a weight for their .260 Rem 20" fluted barrel, but they list the weight for the 6.5 Creedmoor barrel in the same configuration - it's gonna be real close to that, and it's 42.4oz. Sweet... Edited August 9, 2018 by 98Z5V

And you getting yours done can make settle on some the decisions and more out any issues that may come up hopefully. lol. 12 hours ago, 98Z5V said: Wilson Combat doesn't list a weight for their .260 Rem 20" fluted barrel So that's the barrel you are getting? They just didn't have the weight listed on this page, so I had to find something similar from them that did have a weight listed... https://shopwilsoncombat.com/Match-Grade-Barrel-260-Remington-Tactical-Hunter-20-1-8-Twist-Stainless-Fluted/productinfo/TR-260THRG20FT8/ Tough call, between that one and the LaRue 22" barrel. The one other Wilson Combat barrel I have is the .338 Federal barrel, and it is completely badass. I'm comfortable with the decision... ARTrooper
Not a bad price either. Not like I will be getting mine finished anytime soon, but the barrel might be the last thing I get because I still haven't fully decided what I want yet. lol. plus most companies only have 20 or 22 inch barrels in .260 it seems and I will probably be going shorter than that. 98Z5V
So, more baby steps. Got a paycheck today, first one in 5 weeks. This has been waiting at my Gun Pusher for 2 months... I'm the last one in there, so I help him get everything into the safes, then we go get some food and a beer. Then, I finally get home and check email. Whaddaya know... Wilson Combat FINALLY has a sale on their AR barrels, for Labor Day. My $325 barrel is on sale for $275. I swore I wasn't gonna get the barrel until the next paycheck - because I owe it to my Gun Pusher to finally pay him for the BCG he ordered for me... So the barrel is on the way now, too. jtallen83
260 rem uses standard 308 headspace gauges correct? Couple more parts and I have to select a caliber on the next rifle, 260 is right at the top of the list.

Neck diameter. PTG 308 gauges should work. Neck on the .308 is 0.3433", neck on the .260 is 0.2696". 0.2969". If the "snout" on the gauge is to long, it might not work. 98Z5V
FUK!!! Oh, it's a rifle gas system. So I took the chance and bought a standard rifle gas tube. It's ARMALITE RIFLE GAS... I should have known - the "midlength" .338 Fed barrel I got from them was not "midlength." It was Armalite AR-10 Carbine gas system... 98Z5V
Done, until I get the right gas tube in. And paint it. It'll get shot Sunday with the PA 4-14 Mildot scope in the BoBro mount - I raided that off the OD Green Grendel for now. The permanent scope will be in next weekend.
