She can shoot a Cali buck with it, and still have fun poppin squirrels at quite a distance! <thumbsup>

She's quite the squirrel slayer - you don't talk about that much.  You should let the rest of the guys know about that...  <thumbsup>

My wife is a Slayer of Squirrels. She got her first taste of blood last spring, when the snow first melted. She started the day on a Ruger 77/22, but the killing wasn't coming fast enough. She switched over to a Ruger 10/22, but she still needed more satisfaction. The Squirrel population was thick, and the little squeeker's were everywhere, even underfoot. That's when she took her Glock G17 9mm out of her backpack and walked through the alfalfa fields blasting head shots over their little ground holes. She is a wicked straight shooter, and deadly as all get-out.

She has told me several times she want's her own rifle for the next hunt... and that it better be a good one.

While we were there she also got to try out a Rem 700 in .221 Fireball and a Win Mod70 in .223.

(For those that remember... this is also the same trip where my uncle proceeded to damn near blow his face off, twice, with some bad ammunition... Remington Ammunition sent out two new rifles to replace the ones that went KABOOM.)

Is it the "Weatherby Vanguard" style one? I think the Howa 1500... <dontknow>

I used to have one of those, but it wasn't magazine fed.

Wasn't magazine fed or wasn't detachable magazine fed?  Don't make me get the rat trap!  <laughs>

Yeah, they look like the Vanguards.

Tried the mag in a Ruger Scout rifle...not the same.  Never hurts to try.

Hey Jon!

The 10-rd mag that ships with the MVP is pretty damn nice - it actually comes with a yellow hi-viz MagPul anti-tilt follower.  I never thought I'd like a 10rd mag - Whodathunkit?  Good stuff.  20rd Pmags lock in kinda tight, but the 30rd Lancers lock in place easily.  <thumbsup>

Well, picked it up Wednesday, and coincidentally, I was off work.  Bad news in that is:  I was sick as hell.  I usually take some time off work when a new (full) rifle hits my FFL, then go shoot it right away, before it even gets home.  Didn't happen this time.  It gets blasted for the first time this coming Sunday.

At any rate, it's impressive - I like it.  Alot.  <thumbsup>  Brilliant design, and I'm surprised it hasn't been marketed before this one came out.  Here it is with the shipped 10rd GI-Style mag.  This mag really did arrive with a MagPul yellow hi-viz anti-tilt follower, too.  I wondered if it was a rip-off of the MagPul follower, since it looked SO similar, so I stripped the mag down.  Sure enough, stamped under the top, it's a real MP product.  That's just Full Of Win, and a smart move from the factory.

Here are all the different brands mags I've tried so far - at least for fitment, and locking in.  They all work.  MagPul 20, MagPul 30, Lancer L5 AWM 30, USGI 30, SureFire 60.

MP20 locked in, and a shot of the stock follower:

Meanass SureFire 60 locked in:  ;D

Why do I need a SureFire 60 in a bolt gun?  Because I can...  <laughs> <thumbsup>

I also ordered up an EGW one-piece rail mount for it.  I went with the 0-MOA cant over the 20-MOA cant, based on the scope I plan to use, and the rifling (1:9 twist).

Some kind of magnified optic will be on it tomorrow night - whatever I can find locally - just so I can shoot it Sunday.

Mag release directly in front of the magazine.  I haven't called Mossberg yet about the stock, but I will on Monday.  Hopefully, they'll just send me the other one for a minimal charge.  <thumbsup>

I almost painted the metal on this thing last night - Sniper Gray.  <laughs>

Love this thing!!!  What a great shooter.  Got some glass on it last night.  Picked up some Burris Zee rings for it (steel, low profile) and raided the Nikon P-223 3 x 9-40 600-BDCscope from the Mk12 rifle.  This scope will stay on the MVP, and I'll pick up a higher magnification scope for the Mk12.  I wanted to do that anyway, for that rifle.  I'm thinking the Nikon M-223 4 x 12-42 600-BDC scope is what it's getting.

I'll try to find a vid of the "Tannerite-under-the-abandoned-tv" that I blasted.

Here she is, in almost-final form.  Only thing missing is a V-TAC Mk 1 sling.  If I can talk Mossberg out of the Varmint stock tomorrow on the phone, that'll be a plus, but I can live without it, as this rifle is.

I can't figure out how to snatch that Tannerite vid off FaceBook...  :(
