Smith & Wesson withdraws from Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show

<thumbsup>

Smith & Wesson, a U.S. based leader in firearm manufacturing and design, today announced that the Company will not attend nor will it support or participate in the 2013 Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  The announcement comes after the decision of show management company, Reed Exhibitions, to prohibit the display of modern sporting rifles in this year’s event.

James Debney, President and CEO of Smith & Wesson, said, “As a market leader in the firearm industry and an iconic brand that spans 160 years of American history, we believe it is important to make our position perfectly clear:  We support the Second Amendment and the rights of our law-abiding customers to purchase these and all legal firearms.  Therefore, we are unable to support any organization or event that prohibits legal firearms, or otherwise restricts a citizen’s lawful and constitutional rights.”

This is how it's done!!

Despite the withdrawal of at least 183 exhibitors, and 23 scheduled celebrities, British-owned Reed Outdoor Exhibitions refuses to budge on a prohibition of the presence or display of images of the modern sporting rifle at its Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show scheduled for February 2-10 at the State Farm Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Yesterday, Smith & Wesson, the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) joined the growing list of companies withdrawing both their participation and sponsorship of the east's largest sport and outdoor show. In protest of the Reed Decision, former advertiser MyNortheastOutdoors.com plans to build and host a no-cost "Virtual Sports Show" online for vendors who have pulled out of the show.

Damn.  :o  There's some pretty big names in that list. Good, too.

Didn't know the parent company that puts all this on is British-owned.  That figures.

I don't know how the twits can look at their recent history and think that politically correct gun-ostracizing can benefit anyone, other than criminals and muslim youth.

Yep, see their website for their BS explanation of why they didn't have it.

http://www.easternsportshow.com/

Rather than admit that they made a stupid decision in the face of current events, they put it all down to what the atmosphere of the show would be. I think we should take special care to try to patronize those businesses that boycotted the show.

Now my suggestion makes even more sense.

The Boycott group gets together, rents a big venue, puts on said show.

-Media requesting credentials to enter will fill out a duplicate of the background check form a citizen wishing to buy a firearm would. These forms will be retained by the organizers of the show. Any biased media reporting...this information will allow the organizers to respond directly to the "reporter" by picketing his house.

-At the door to the show will be a donation station, the NRA and the best charity available for getting cash to the victims of Sandy Hook will be stationed, together, collecting donations.

Damn great idea!

The last part reminded me of when congress siezed all funds donated to 9/11 survivors, saying "We'll make sure nobody cheats the system!"

So I hit the "Contact Us" on S&W's website and sent this:

Good Morning,

I am please to give Smith & Wesson a heart-felt Thank-you, for your withdrawal from the 2013 Eastern Sports & Trades Show!  Your support for the Second Amendment community during these trying times is especially refreshing!

Also at this time, I would like to make a suggestion:  that Smith & Wesson cooperate immediately with the other vendors boycotting this event, and sponsor an alternative event in a different venue within Harrisburg, PA.  As their community is set to lose approximately $80 Million from the cancellation of the original event, a Pro-Firearms trade show hosted and helping them recoup a probably loss, this would be a sorely needed Public Relations victory for the American Second Amendment supporters!

I do understand the logistics for such an immediate undertaking are monumental but Smith & Wesson has shown themselves to be a leader in tough times.  There should be plenty of areas available now too!

Thank-you for your time!

Respectfully,

Jon
