Matt.Cross Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 Pachmayr Legends: Not my piece, but an excellent picture of a set of grips that are both ergonomically practical and cosmetically appealing.
edgecrusher Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 I really had to twist his arm to get those, even threatened by buying the wood myself, and that ^^^^ is why!! SMOKIN'!!
Matt.Cross Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 Geez, he let two whole grip picture posts go by before he stole the show..... Thanks Tom! :(  :) :D  Ok fine, they really are awesome grips.....

planeflyer21 Posted March 22, 2013 Report Posted March 22, 2013 Nice! Did you build that Caspian? Jon
98Z5V Posted March 22, 2013 Report Posted March 22, 2013 Hey Tom, is that mesquite? One thick block of Box Ironwood, symmetric all the way through. Cut in half, handmade, and left & right sides look almost identical. That gripmaker did some awesome work, and it was worth the wait - Greg really did push me over the cliff on that one, and I'm glad he did.
BLKSHEEP Posted March 22, 2013 Report Posted March 22, 2013 I've always considered ironwoods trash trees, ill have to reconsider......thats purdy!!
planeflyer21 Posted March 22, 2013 Report Posted March 22, 2013 I've always considered ironwoods trash trees, ill have to reconsider......thats purdy!! For people with "the touch" there isn't any tree they can't make look good. I've spent hours looking over other people's projects in various tree samples. There is way, WAY more to it that a few simple rules of grain direction and finish. Someone posted photos of a Marlin stock-set once, satin finished AAA-black walnut with 32LPI checkering...absolutely flawless. Jon
washguy Posted March 22, 2013 Author Report Posted March 22, 2013 the original grips on the Elektra......pimpalascious :P Wash
392heminut Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 Nice! Did you build that Caspian? Jon Yup, I built that one over 15 years ago and it's still going strong. Painted the grip too. I don't know how many rounds I've put through it, but back when I was seriuosly competing I was shooting around 10,000 rnds a year! I did fit a new barrel to it a couple of years ago, but the old one is still in pretty good shape and I used it to build a backup gun on a Para frame I had lying around.
392heminut Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 Tom, the reason I asked is because they looked a lot like some mesquite grips I had years ago that were made by a local guy. I asked him a few months ago to make another set for me and he said he would but I haven't heard anything from him since then. Guess I should call him. Your grips have gotten me back to wanting a nice set again! They are beautiful!
98Z5V Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 After getting that set done, I'd like to give the guy more business. Ironic that you mention the mesquite, because I'm considering that to get a set made for the Kimber Tac Pro II. His prices were very reasonable - $165 complete, and that included the whole block of wood. Now you got me looking back at his website again...

Big Mike got his back, man that Colt looks like it's wearing a tux!
