slugger43 Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 Just to date myself further, I still remember my battle sight zero on my basic training M-1. Up 10, right 2. How the hell does our brain store that kind of information, when I haven't seen that rifle for over 5 decades? And why? Doesn't work with my current Garand. Maybe I'm just weird. (My wife says no "maybe" about it).

I still remember my battle sight dope (200 Yd Zero) for my M1 Garand issued to me in boot camp at MCRD in March 1960, Elevation +12 clicks and windage right 2 clicks. When I left active duty and went to ready reserve my brand new issue Mi also worked with 12 and 2. I think that I will never forget my rifle battle sight dope, nor my Service number, which was not my S.S. number. However I did purchase my own personal Mi (select grade from Kliens) for $108 plus $3.50 shipping and handleing by USPS in 1963. changed to only elevation of 6 and 1 left. By the way I still had that rifle until I gave it to my son upon his retirement from the US Army in 2013, he still lets me shoot it often enough to suit me.

Holy cow! Also, of course, not my SSN. I remember the different prefixes on the number gave you a bit of info. RA was regular army, AR was army reserve, NG for national guard and US for draftees. Not sure about the other services... This may be boring the hell out of the younger forum fellas, but I don't give a rap. Go old guys! Har!
mineralman55 Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 Caption should have read: "LA Schools Closed, GPA Increases Half A Point"
DNP Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 Yeah, but daily crime rate increased by 6%

Har!In 1960 I belive the Marines had at least two indicators in the service number, 16xxxxx was regular Marine Corps enlisted and 18xxxxx was enlisted Marine Corps Reserve. I am sure the Women Marines had another. The Marine Corps had a restriction on the number of Regular Marines billits and only the Army was blessed with draftees it was several years later when there were draftees in the Marines.
