washguy Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 So, ive been on a mango habit for about 3 weeks..yummy 50 cent apeice and oh so good. Char peels em and cuts em up and then puts whipped cream with em. Bout 10 days ago Char pointed out some poison ivy in the flower bed....which I sprayed right then.....3 lil plants...and she didnt even get near them cause she is allergic to them bout 7 days ago she has poison ivy on her eye lid...impossible I say had to go to the eye doctor...he said it kinda looked like poison ivy....then it spreads to her fingers and wrists.....had to go to another Doc for steroids.... crazy....so im looking up mangos cause there's different kinds that I wanna try...6 varieties to be exact.....and then I come across an article that sez that Mango skin/rind has the same type of chemical that poison ivy has...Bingo ! So,Mangos cost 300 bills not 50 cent <lmao> Wash
Microgunner Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Hope Char feels better soon and sorry for your loss of a favored treat.

blue109 Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 was telling my wife about this and saw the lightbulb pop up. she says that might explain occasional strange sensations when she scrapes the rind with her teeth lol. good thing she's not allergic to ivy.

Microgunner Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 I like to top my avocado with a 20oz Del Monaco steak, medium.
EasyEJL Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 for the avocado, sea salt, fresh ground pepper and a splash of balsamic vinegar is nice.At least if its just the skin that's a problem on the mangos you can buy the pre-cut pieces at some grocery stores

When I get home from lifting weights I'll mash one up with a hard boiled egg and a can of tuna, I like them right outta the skin with some garlic salt or chipotle powder. Baking them with an egg in the hole where the stone was is good too. I think I could eat them on any thing

She was telling me the skin is the worst part for causing reactions then the fruit its self next. She did test for months even went to the Mayo Clinic and couldn't figure out what it was.we figured it out after we had another friend that had the same problem I caused by eating mangoes.she quit eating mangoes and it cleared up after a bit
sketch Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 Funny story. Dad had a mango tree in his back yard on Maui! There is nothing better than fresh out of a tree!! Store bought is crap compared just sayin but that comes with a warning. .. The ones from a tree have a sap on the outside that when fallen from a branch and met with skin it's like a hot wax hair removal that is super glue strong!! Dad had a raspberry rip down his face eye to chin! Didn't know about the allergy? Mmmm mango.
392heminut Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 There is nothing better than fresh out of a tree!! Store bought is crap compared just sayin The stuff in stores is picked before it's ripe (just like tomatoes, apples, bananas etc.) and that is why they don't have the full flavor that stuff ripened on the vine or tree do. They pick the stuff at a point where when it hits the store it's just starting to look ripe. My sister-in-law had a banana tree in her back yard down in Clewiston Florida and I didn't know bananas could taste THAT good until I had eaten ripe ones from her tree! That's why I grow my own tomatoes, you can't compare fresh picked ripe tomatoes to anything on the store shelves! My wife makes the best spaghetti sauce I've ever had with my ripe tomatoes.

All the vine ripened stuff is way better for you too cuz it doesn't reach it's full nutritional value being picked 1/4 ripe. Same reason I grow as much as I can too, bout the only reason I wish I live in a warmer claimant is so I could grow stuff year round. Thank god for canning
