I will play. I would assume, since we get to insert the name of the group, that I would know whether to expect 2-4 (home invasion scenario) or 10+ (rioting or mostly peaceful demonstrations). Handgun only: I have 2 choices depending on number of potential intruders. With a small number of intruders, I would pick up my S&W Governor. It has 6 rounds of home defense 410 bore. With a large number of intruders, I would pick up my FN FiveseveN. It has up to 30 rounds of high speed 5.7x28 that does not over penatrate. Rifle option:. For me, there is little to discuss. I would choose my AR57. It is the same round as the FiveseveN but with a 50 round magazine. It is light and there is little recoil. Follow up shots are quick, even with a binary trigger installed. I have several options of caliber in rifles, but most would be likely to go through any and everything in the house and beyond.

I listen mostly to Octane, occasionally Turbo, comedy sometimes, and radio classics every once in a while.

While you are breaking in the gun, shoot 7.62x51 NATO ball ammo if you can find it. Long-term, 308Win ammo will be just fine in a modern weapon. My "∆∆∆∆" was supposed to be arrows indicating that I agreed with the prior responses.

That goes along with the old saying What do you call the person who graduated last in his class at med school? Doctor. There was a similar saying in optometry school. C = OD which means that as long as you get at least a C in all of your classes, you will still pass and get you doctorate of optometry degree. For the record, I did not get any C's.

Short of reloading, Federal Gold Medal Match is a great round in both 168 and 175 grain. There are also 185 grain Federal Gold Medal Match with Berger Juggernaut bullets that @98Z5V says are the shits for long range. I don't hunt so maybe @Magwa can fill you in on what he takes elk and deer with when he is hunting. As always, every rifle and barrel will prefer certain ammo over others. Shoot what you can get at the moment and find out what yours prefers.

To know what the best ammo for you is, we must know what your intentions are when shooting. There are great long distance target rounds that would not be appropriate for hunting or plinking and vice versa. That said, any decent ammo you can find at a reasonable price is your best bet at the moment. There are slim pickings at the moment.

Get some rest and try to stay hydrated.
