Would it even be the mag catch? If it's not getting a full stroke it's either the recoil system or the gas system. Replace the spring. Check that the gas tube is the proper length...there's info on that all over this place-check the thread Draco posted If those don't clear it check the gas port size. Drill bits work good for determining the size of the hole in your barel and there's lots of good stuff from Survival Shop, Washguy, 98 and others. the tube and the gas port can be checked without spending a dime. You can probably post a photo of the inside of your upper and let us know what drill bit fits in the hole...the gurus here can go nuts with info about that. It smells like they suspect your spring at the moment.

Unlike the AR-15 there is no mil spec for the big boys. While some play ok together, you are safest to go with a set that was designed to work together instead of a set with minor variation in different spots that "might" work together.

Is it well lubed? How does it handle a real round?

I get the state's rights idea, but a state should NOT be able to further restrict rights granted federally. They SHOULD have the right to loosen them if they choose, but any tax burden created by that loosening should be carried by that state and that state only....say for immigration laws. If your state wishes to allow illegal immigrants to settle, fine. However any program they become a part of that involves federal dollars is now forfeited. If your state wants to free up machine guns, fine...just don't let Eric Holder purchase any.

That hand picture reminds me of a story I heard last week. Not a Darwin Award, but a reminder to those who get complacent and confident in their abilities. Friend of a friend went to the desert to shoot...alone...out of cell range. His AR jammed and had a round in the chamber that was stuck. Apparently this guy is very familiar with firearms and would be the last guy you would think would have an issue. He used a cleaning rod to push the round out and it went off. Not sure how things were pointed, or how he got on his $68k helicopter ride, but I hear he lost about a pound and a half of flesh in his forearm and severely jacked himself up. Be careful...this poop is dangerous.
