  1. I'd get pretty board hunting on a 208.7'x208.7' lot. Guess you'd need a good corn feeder on it.
  2. Sorry to hear we have lost another good one.
  3. That's one of the rules. You gotta load your own gun. And if ammo prices stay up...you're gonna need a paper route too. Sorry son.
  4. Gonna have to build a dedicated .22 for him. Darn! The next one is about 4 years behind him....so he should be in a good spot for hand me down rifles. We were thinking a boy and a girl would have been good, but I'm pretty happy with two boys. At least we didn't drop twin girls on the second pregnancy! I wouldn't know what the hell to do.
  5. He does. His mom is a pretty decent shooter.
  6. That system worked great. Thanks for the ideas guys. I just had him look at the phone and snapped it. My wife didn't believe it so we checked her and myself too. Both right eyes for us. Can't wait to get him on an AR.

5 deer? What do they do around there? Just tie one to every tree?
  8. All looks the same in mobile for me.

One guy....for a couple years. And that completely backfired on the rest of us. Don't listen to him Hoff.

WTF? I am the exact opposite....I have been "inspired" more than I have instigated. I'll show you next week.

Welcome from San Diego and congrats on the boy on the way! This is a good place here. It's small, but it's cozy and the guys that call it home will usually do anything they can to help each other out. Sounds like you share some common interests with the bulk of em. Stick around a while....just keep a close eye on your wallet.
  12. Tried the finger point test....inconclusive. Worked great for me, was hard for me to get an obvious answer on him. Tried the diamond test....leans towards the left eye. Tried the Armed Eye Doc 100% Garaunteed Or Your Money Back test.....and the survey says.....
  13. You lucky dog. Right on!
  14. Thank you all. Yes...he gets his good looks from her.....but that rocket scientist brain of his....is probably from the mail man. We are a misfit group here. I'm glad to hear his situation seems fairly common. Either that or we have some sort of strange gravitational pull on this site that attracts the weirdos. (Explains why I've been here so long).
  15. I'm only kidding about the fixing it part. I'll take him any way he comes....even if he is broken. I will try the eye test when I pick him up from school today. Gonna be a real shame if I have to buy a bunch of left handed uppers....more gun parts. Rats!
  16. Can't wait to go again. We'll fix that wrong handed crap....lol.
  17. We'll give that a shot and see. Didn't even think of the finger test...and I've seen that one many times before. I'm happy as can be that he had a good time. I think I might hunt for a pellet rifle for him and set up a bench and a pellet trap in the back yard.
  18. Took my boy up on the ranch today. Went out with my dad and my wife. This was his first time holding a gun. We spent the week leading up to this discussing gun safety. He has a pretty good grip on the concepts. We have been back and forth as to wether he will be right or wrong handed. He writes and throws mostly with his right, but he throws with the left too. Working with the rifle, he is definitely favoring his left eye. We set him up right handed and he kept leaning all the way over to see through the red dot with his left eye. We switched sides and he seemed a lot more comfortable. We had targets at 7, 15, and 25 because we had some pistols out too. He decided 25 was his range. First shot at least hit the target. Second shot nailed a metal prairie dog at 25 yards as well. I think all of his shots were on target. He pulled in to the 15 yard and started dropping them around the bullseye. We had a great outing. He enjoyed it and is ready to go again. We had fun, got the idea of what's going on on. Now we can work on the form.
  19. No, but now that Ed has seen it...they probably don't have long before those pop up.

Not today. Going shootin. Next weekend is no good either. The weekend after that I'm at the inlaws in Kingman AZ. Might have to take a day off work.

Thank you. It was delicious. I can't wait to do another. I think a big chunk of beef is next. You all have been excellent mentors and motivators. Thanks again for all the help-especially to Wash for all the long text message chains of tips and support.
  22. Been a while since I've read one that started this way. So so there I was, stumbling through the door of one of our local gun pushers. I was there to find a red dot for my son's rifle. Tomorrow will be his first time behind a rifle - a Savage Rascal single shot .22lr. He's about 5 1/2...but he's smart and extremely cautious. It'll be just him, my dad, and me. Rather than try to teach him about open sights on the first outing...I figure a red dot will do the trick. Put the red dot on the item you'd like to destroy. We've been covering the three basic rules for a few days now and he's understanding it's not a game, so this should be fun. I picked out a cheap reflex sight first...but nothing we did would make it turn on and they couldn't find another one in the store. We wound up with a TruGlo 20mm red dot. Came with a high and a low base. Even the low base for him will be a little high...but from a bench he will get the idea. You can still use the irons with the rail I have mounted, so that is nice. Can't wait. I also got a 1895 SBL in 45-70.
  23. Man....that Marlin would be soo much sexier in stainless.
