  1. Plenty of 308AR Barrels available out there , but have you shot this rifle in its configuration ? Nothing wrong with having two distinctly different configured Upper assemblies . I can tell you a good FCG , (Trigger ) will make a BIG difference . DPMS Barrels on the most part , are good shooters . Good long range barrels are not cheap , both mine are touching $ 400 ea.. I have never owned a PA manufactured anything , but from what we have been through here with the issues some post here , I know I'm not interested in them .
  2. DPMS uses mostly Commercial Receiver Extensions .
  3. The Rule has opened ! As others have said , the 16" 308 is quite sufficient to 5-600 yards , at least a good barrel ,with good ammo & a good shooter , but if you want a 20" , thats fine also , I have one & a 16" & the 20" does shoot tighter groups ( both are Criterion HB ), but not enough for me to use another 20" , if I was to build another . The Forward assist will some what work , not like the AR 15, depending on where the Forward assist is on the Upper , most 308AR's are too high on the Upper receiver to engage on any notches on the Bolt Carrier , like the AR 15 , they hit on a shoulder on a 308AR BC . There is a company , not sure if it was Areo or who ever , makes a Upper with the FA in the same area as the AR 15 & a BCG to match , with the same notches for the FA .
  4. There is one thing that most don't think about when using lightened action components , its not just the Buffer & its spring that help feed the next round into the chamber , the BCG has a lot to do with it . As said , there is a balancing act when using lightened components in the action of a semi auto feeding action , which are designed with action components to be able to handle a wide verity of loadings with out issues . From the very beginning of my building of AR's I have always used M16 Bolt Carriers for my builds , no matter what they are built to do of for . The reason is reliability of the feeding cycle. When they first went to the lighter AR 15 BC's in the Colt rifles, because of the BATF new reg's. , I got a lot of them in for feeding issues , the lighten'ed AR 15 BC was replaced with an M16 & the issues were resolved ( the BATF came out with a list of M 16 parts that could not be used in Commercial AR 15 's , which turned out to be BS anyway ) . That was a long time ago & Colt changed their Buffer systems to fix it & keep with in the BATF reg's . Then came the Enhanced AR 15 BC , which was a little heavier then the std AR 15 & that also helped the feeding issues . As 98 posted , it all depends on what you want to use the rifle for , all around , use a std weight BCG for the 6.5 & use a adj. Gas Block .If a Match rifle , you can fine tune it to your best loading . The Barrel is where most of the weight is going to be any way .

    Big Trouble

We get enough of them as it is .
  6. http://www.brownells.com/reloading/case-preparation/case-prep-units/bench-mount-motor-prod95215.aspx?lp_pageid=add2&cm_sp=Secondary+Banner-_-Lower+Homepage+Feature-_-HHP_New_Products
  7. They are back in stock at Brownells http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/receiver-parts/recoil-parts/recoil-buffers/super-42-braided-wire-spring-buffer-prod87956.aspx?cm_sp=Home+Page+Banner-_-Manufacturers-_-Geissele_Automatics&avs|Manufacturer_1=GEISSELE+AUTOMATICS+LLC
  8. Sure , its specified in the TM.
  9. I'm with Blue , its an individual thing on where the scope is mounted , many variables , Stock type , the shooters anatomy , Scopes eye relief & so on . My nose is somewhat big , but I have never touched it to the Charging handle .I'm not that nosey .
  10. Not enough info . Need to know what type ammo was used to cause this failure , very dangerous condition . Has the Head space been checked on this rifle , as said above . Also it will take more then a Primer blown out top cause a Magazine to blow apart . Was the Cartridge case saved & what condition was it in , any photo's ? Chamber not to spec's , loose Barrel , Muzzle device issue , as said, loose scope or mount . Start with Head Space check & Chamber inspection , see if Barrel is loose . That blow out is kinda scary !
  11. Its still expensive !
  12. Election too close , otherwise Carter & O'Butthead would not of done a thing . Looks bad for the Domocommie party .
  13. Neat idea.
  14. Interesting , they would bring a big $$ here , but of course there is no legal way to get them here . maybe most of the parts , as said .
  15. I wasn't specifically referring to yours , but there are a lot of Muzzle Devices made to look Tacticool with spikes at the end or twisted & not really tested to do what they should do , is what I was saying . Yours seemed to tame muzzle rise pretty good , as far as recoil , its a 308
  16. Damn , Night Force scope should give 1/4" MOA all by its self , just kidding . How about some Target photo's & is the rifle bone stock ?
  17. Not that much ! All barrels whip about , but look at that first slow mo again . My M1 is worth far to much rattle it apart . Well go ahead & get your own & beat it up , why don't ya .
  18. Nice , but looking at the Barrel & Gas assembly flop around in that one slow motion shot , I'll pass on subjecting my M1 to it , you'all have fun using yours
  19. Good job
  20. More then likely , with out talking to the manufacturer or any instruction saying so, your probably set where they themselves tested the Muzzle device. Nice looking set up , but I believe more & more Brakes & Compensators are made for looks , more then function . There is a Thread or post some where around this sight of some video of testing this things & they measured Muzzle flip & recoil of some devices .Probably a youtube vid.. Still there are so many out there , its hard to test them all . I have only found one that really didn't work too well as a Brake & mostly because its looks more of a Flash Suppressor even though its advertised as both , most work fine as a Brake or Compensator , so looks may mean nothing .
  21. WTF !
  22. I don't think this system will wear out in my life time . I have fired this rifle ( my Piston build, Mid. length gas system ) a couple of times & there is no noise & action works flawlessly . The thing i see that I like is the coil count , less coils , less friction in the Receiver Extension & less chance of Spring bind ,( if thats even an issue) . I like it , the next one will go in a DI build ( BRO Receiver set ) & the way the Brownells Barrel is shooting , may have the same barrel on it . Think of this , when was the last time you wore out a Buffer spring or Buffer , for that matter.
  23. Very few Piston 308AR's out there to choose from & no conversion system from DI to Piston , that I know of . Nothing wrong with a DI rifle , less Parts , less expensive & it works . I have shot a lot of 308 this past year or two , because of testing & only thing I normally clean is the swab the Barrel before each shoot , mostly because I'm testing different loadings in different length barrels . The Stainless Steel or S/S, Nitrated Barrels are very easy to clean , a couple of patches & done . As with the BCG , NIB coated or Nitrated BCG , just wipe off with ease , of course the Tail of the Bolt may need some light brushing. Use the right components & cleaning is not an issue , I believe my 308AR's haven't been cleaned in over a year, maybe more , just wiped down & re-lubed & bore wiped with a couple patches before shooting . When first built , first 500 rounds , I did a lot of disassembly cleaning for inspection of components .
  24. I ordered another of these Buffer sets today . For my BRO 5.56 build . Too bad it wasn't' from Brownells ,they are out of stock just about every where , DSG Arms shows them in stock .
