Fort Hood Shooting, Unfortunately not a repeat
survivalshop replied to Armed Eye Doc's topic in Club House
Just potentially being in harms way & not being in combat , can have an effect on some people . I heard reports he used a S&W 45 , but I watched a news conference with that three star dude & he said, when confronted by the( Female) MP , he pulled a 9mm & popped a cap in his brain bucket , as with anything like this it will take some time to sort out . They just said ( the three star dude ) that the mission in Iraq of four months , was complete , for his unit . edit; He also clarified that the shooter pulled a S&W 45 . -
<laughs> I thought there was something new !

Double feeding issues....
survivalshop replied to myrtlebeach's topic in DPMS Panther Arms LR-308 | Bushmaster 308
By double feeds , are you speaking of two unfired cartridges, attempted to be fed from the magazine at the same time ? Yes , any semi auto rifle or pistol can have its recoil cycle interrupted or interfered with by having the rifle/Pistol too limp in the hand/shoulder weld . Remember the rifle /pistol are meant to be stationary when fired so the recoil is used up on the action of the firearm . When the firearm is left to recoil unrestricted , it can cause the action to lose the recoil or blow back ,meant to cycle the action . Yes it may be extreme & I have seen it happen many times over with new shooters. Having the mag loaded for extended period of time , should not pose a problem. -

This is the new pattern DPMS rifle ? Looks like primer material is flowing into firing pin hole , on cartridge ignition. Too much clearance in bolt face for firing pin ? This is a new beast from DPMS & who knows what or how they made it , to do what ever it does . There will be problems with some rifles from this new design , I would think, not sure you have a problem , if this is what they expect from this new design. And they say this in normal ? Top ones in the photo are hand loads ? He did a fine job of lacquering the primers . I would think the middle ones are hand loads ,because of the silver primers & lack of sealant , but I have seen some factory ammo with silver primers . -
I have a Norinco 1911 45 , Had it for over twenty years & its a real good shooter & very nicely made , but I still buy made in USA first.

Where to buy bolt and barrel together/ proper headspace
survivalshop replied to Cali_Ed's topic in Building a .308AR
1-10 twist rate is the most common with .30 cal. & can shoot the widest range of bullet weights effectively , but there are others for more specific purposes . -
Which did you like best , least ?

I suppressed my horde complex . <laughs>

Most manufacturers will have models in both platforms , just specify . The AR 15 will have a lot more choices to choose from.

JP Enterprise's new "enhanced" extractor
survivalshop replied to Powerman's topic in General Discussion
I see your point , but how many of us are using a JP enhanced 308 bolt, from the same batch as his was made ? 900+ rounds & the extractor is shot ? In what way ? Broken in some way ? Just not extracting or unreliable extraction ? Have you tried a new spring ? A hardened steel extractor working brass cartridge cases , it really shouldn't wear out , unless it broke from being made badly . I have had my share of springs weaken & need replacing to get the extractor to work again. I would think we should expect a better service life from a extractor in these rifles. Brass shavings could be from several things , weak brass being one of them ( foreign made surplus etc. ). There could also be a problem with timing , meaning premature extraction. Tight or rough chamber , causing it to be out of time .The extractor its self or some thing on the bolt face or bolt itself , in some way. All these parts, including barrels & complete rifles , are mass produced & I think we have to remember that & that in its self can cause out of spec parts . -
Barnes TTSX's ($$), Hornady SST's , I load a lot of these for hunters & they say ,they have great results with them, 165's & 150's . I would try different manufacturers to see what shoots best from your barrel .

Having 30 rd's is a plus. I would like to see Chrono results between the 16" & 7.5 " , just out of curiosity . No doubt the projectile will go far & you can hit stuff with it , but baming away with a rifle cartridge from a pistol , is not going to be the same as a rifle platform. I'm sure you know that , but I just picture it like one of those cartoons , where the guy shoots a hundred rounds & all it does is leave an out line of his body shape . <lmao>

JP Enterprise's new "enhanced" extractor
survivalshop replied to Powerman's topic in General Discussion
Are you having problems ejecting also ? -
I know its a pistol , but what kind of performance are you expecting ( or should expect )from a 7.62x39 from a 7.5" bbl.?

Damn, things may be looking up . I was just in Gander & they had Powder , fairly good assortment , well maybe I went over board there , but they had handout twenty on pond canisters of various powders . I was surprised , there was another customer who was looking at it with me & said its been a long time since he saw powder in there , two years , maybe . I picked up a lb. of IMR 4895 & 3031 , I just couldn't help myself . Might go back tomorrow to hoard , if any thing is left . Yes, I know that one rule will probably rear its ugly head , but I'm not desperate , so no biggie . <dontknow>

That's why I wondered if they made some barrels wrong or out of spec. . We are all for getting a rifle to work properly , no matter what needs to be done or what part or parts may need to be changed out . We don't always get the complete picture from some of the manufacturers . Your case is just one of those where you have to figure it out with out there help . <thumbsup>

Vice blocks on the barrel itself , I use aluminum vice blocks ( made for barrels ) & leather , but wood should work , as long as it keeps the barrel from moving .You really do not want to strain the receiver or the barrel extension , in any way.

There's a lot of people on this forum that have FA barrels on there DPMS type rifles with rifle length gas system & have no problem with std AR 15 rifle length gas tubes , I have two of them myself . One a 20" & the other a 16" . There's more to this than saying all FA barrels need a AR 10 longer gas tube . Wonder if there are some mis matched or miss designated barrels made for FA. ? My barrels were made for a DPMS rife , what did , if any thing did they change ?

I like my SSA & would also buy another . I also like the G2S I have.

JP Enterprise's new "enhanced" extractor
survivalshop replied to Powerman's topic in General Discussion
Did you have the same shavings with the DPMS Extractor ? I just looked over a DPMS 6.8 spc Barrel /bolt , that Robocop has in the for sale section & the extractor looks similar to the new JP one you have now. His ad reads all parts were factory . My point is , if those parts are from Factory DPMS for a 6.8 SPC , why the similarities of the DPMS 6.8 SPC bolts Extractor & the new JP ?
