As far as extruded vs forged , they already supply forged uppers for there AR 15 line & all that would be needed is the mold for forging & I don't know the difference in cost of tooling ,but in the long run , I'm sure they can spit out more forgings than extruded . They probably don't make them in-house any way .Farmed out to some other manufacturer, all they had to do is give them spec's on what they wanted. The bolt is going to be the weak point , the way I see it . They changed it entirely , including loosing metal at the bolt face & locking lugs . How does those converted 7.62x39 AR 15 bolts working out for people using them ? I think they did this all for , as you said , more commonality in some parts & the big thing was weight , to reduce it for a rifle that is more handy for all. Which makes it more sellable to consumers . Good idea if they work , put 10K of them out there & see how this unfolds. They also may be looking into Gov. contracts, ya never know.

Its beautiful to shoot with , fits me perfectly , but I can see some may not like it for its largeness , kinda right hand only , well sort of.

Steel feed ramps ? Why ? There is so little feed ramp on the lower any way , why make an insert & how is it secured to the lower receiver ? Most of the feed ramp is on the barrel extension , unless they changed that also. I think they have some good idea's , but why , just for weight ? Larger barrel , larger barrel nut . It all means they had to really lose some diameter @ the receiver barrel attachment point, should be OK , but with a 308 , I kinda want some meat (steel ) around the chamber. What they did was take there design , down sized to save material , to save money & add some flashy so called improvements & still charge the same or more . Good decision to save on the bottom line & make more profits .IMO

Tango down , Magpul , A2 & I have one on my 20" 308AR , target type , I think Serria or some thing like that

I just don't understand the duel ejectors , I don't see the ejector as a potential problem in any AR . Maybe it has some thing to do with how they changed the receiver ? The enlarged ejection port may also have some thing to do with how they changed the upper receiver & the duel ejectors. I'm not too crazy about the replacement for the extractor spring , I have seen that stuff fail & then it come apart in chunks .Yes they use it in them now ,but they have a spring also. Nice looking rifles & nice to see them make , well , changes/improvements ?

Any standard rifle sling should work & they have all kinds of flavors of camouflage out there. Attachment is the same for your sling as on any hunting rifle with sling attachments , if that's what your asking. Check for Allen camo slings & there are others . There are slings out there with out the sewn in QR. Even if you get a tactical , get it FDE, OD Green or Foliage green, works just as well & most of the tactical slings are made better than commercial & of course cost a little more . I just picked up a Magpul MS1 sling in FDE & its a quick adj. sling & also has loose sling ends for threading the loops , as with most Tactical slings .

this is why barrels are so expensive

Looked to me that the blue parts move & the green do not , Maybe for safety ? -
If I read that right , the upper/lower have smaller dimensions than the LR308 , but still a 308 , to lighten it , smells like proprietary parts . What effect would the duel ejectors have on the strength of the bolt ?

LR308 Trigger question
survivalshop replied to str8shuutr45's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
I just installed a G2S in my 16" 308AR & it is very close to operation as my SSA , you can't go wrong with a Geissele . -
Damn , your quick & good .

You would have to alter the mag stop , that's on the mag, to get it to go higher in the receiver on every mag. you would want to work in this lower receiver & what would that do for the mag's capability to be used in other rifles ( mine ) <dontknow> I have put other uppers on this lower , ones that have no problems with PMags & still have problems . AS I have said , works fine with any steel mag. I put in it .
-
My lower looks like its in the mid 200's ser. # , so its a real early lower . The new rifles have no problem with PMags . I shoot a friends & his has no problems ,but his is new . The PMag's sit a little lower in the lower receiver, by just a few thousands of an inch . I have a thread around here on all that I have done to try to make them work , including replacing parts with AR 10 ones. Nothing has worked so far & I've been trying different things for years , since the LR PMag. first came out . I just recently bedded the action , because the fitment between the upper & lower were very loose fit . I was hoping that would help ,but even that didn't work .

It reads , I can vote again in 9 hrs. 45 min. ?

Range time was a bit different than the base shoot was , 14 deg. colder , & some gusty winds picked up after I set up , of course . I thought at first the rifle shot worse than before the action bedding , the rifle shot a couple inches low & to the left as you can see by the bottom left group , the # 6 shot was from a different batch of same load , just to see if it was the batch that was shooting low , but nope, I had to sight the rifle in again. I'm not sure if the action bedding was the cause ,but pretty sure ,because this rifles upper & lower receivers were loose before hand . After getting some trigger time the groups got better , as you can see . I'm sure the wind was a factor . Changing to the Geissele G2S was some fun at the range, the clip that holds the hammer pin in was a little pain in the arse , but worked out OK . Would have been much better if it was installed in my shop . The shooting of the Geissele two stage was nice , I had to put a lot of effort into the STD FCG ( Spike's Enhanced )to get the results I did , the G2S , I could pop them off rather quickly & get the same results & if you look at the # 4 shot group , I concentrated on that one & with some trigger time am sure I can do better . Can't alwas expect non windy days , but I'm sure it had an effect on all my shooting this day . I do not use a lead sled , IMO its good for the load & barrel , but leaves the most important part out , " the nut behind the trigger " . Now, do I think that an Action Bedding job made this rifle shoot better , no , not really , it got rid of the annoying shake & play , but time & longer shots may say more about it . The Geissele Trigger did though. So , share some thoughts .

Well, the new Gen.3 mag failed in my CMMG on the second round. What I believe is happening , is the bolt is missing grabbing the next round & its being pushed into the feed ramp by the bolt carrier its self & wee all know what Failure to feed jam you end up with . (case smashing type ) This CMMG lowered build will just not work with any PMag ,its all about tolerance stacking . I'm waiting for the Lancer 308 mag to come to out & try. Steel mags work just fine in this rifle .

His name should have alerted people , Dicken !

Build it into DPMS format , that would be different , for you. <laughs>

Why does it seem strange that the last ones , that really had things you put in your butt stock , seem out of place with this thread . <dontknow> I carrie an extra battery for my scope in my A2 stocked 308AR.
-
Like it when its an easy fix.
-
I just got a couple of the Gen.3 , 308 PMags & wanted to test them in my Picky CMMG lower , that doesn't like them , so I took some photo's to compare them by . Who knows maybe they changed something that will let them work reliably in my CMMG lower. The springs are flexing opposite & attached or anchored on the follower different. Spring on G# seems to be shorter New Gen. 3 on the left Looks like the Gen. 3 is longer , floor plate is thicker G3 on the left. G1 G3 bottom one is G3 , looks like they changed the follower. G3 is left one

Banging steel at 600 yards scope power?
survivalshop replied to BRD51's topic in Optics & Mounts, BUIS,Sights
Its the cost of the equipment & gas & time to re-aneal brass for 300 BLK ,made from used 5.56 . I guess if I was shooting necked down 338 brass @ 1000 yards for competition , I would re-aneal the big dollar custom made brass also . ::) -
Let us know how they shoot , I made some up with 168's, about the same load .
-
I hope so , but I will also test them ,since I have a mag. picky CMMG lower.
-
Man , that's bright & I have been looking also , but have so much going on , its on the back burner. I've bee wanting to get a Laser for the wife's carrie pistol, but sure like the bright light.

I weigh all my brass & put them into category by weight ,after trimming . The LC once fired brass that I just loaded , I had about nine of the 80 rd's. that were 175 .grs. +/- a couple tenths of a gr. & the rest were 179.4-5 to 180.1-2 , so the volume in the case does make a difference in velocity on the Chrono, but not to much difference in grouping . I still keep them in separate batch's , just because. Long range , it may make a difference. I'm still waiting for more WC 846 to come back , I have many years of testing with this powder & now I'm finding I have to do all my testing again with other powders ,because of what ever is out there , is what's out there . I'm not sure they will ever catch up or want to ,no matter what they say . This shortage is good for there business & I think they will keep it up for as long as they can & I don't care what good intensions there press releases say.
