  1. It all depends , as said, on the distances you are planing to shoot. All the available will shoot good out of the 1-10 , but some don't do well at the longer ranges. That's where the 168-175 gr. bullets will do better . Not saying you can't group with the lighter pills at those ranges , just the heavies will do better . Just load the 155's or 147's or what ever at the reloading manual spec's & go from there . Just check your brass for signs of over pressure , as you would normally & if you have a Chronograph , use it to adjust as your load as needed. If you need loading spec info , go to the bullet manufactures sight & there should be some there.
  2. If our politicians did drugs as much as they drink alcohol ( like they did during probation ) this would be a non issue today .
  3. Got a 300BLK case holder for this trimmer from Midway , can't wait to try it out this week .
  4. You can also change the buffer & or spring to lower felt recoil & make her run smoother (heavy buffers ) with the heavy's. With the short barrel , you may need to stay with a lighter bullet if you want the Vol., if that's your goal .
  5. As said above , you can load up an AR 308 more than a M1A or for that matter the M1 Garrand. They have special loadings for the op rod rifles , but the AR 308 can be pushed . Just follow your normal proceedures for case inspection for problems. I push mine a little on work up loads . Be safe
  6. I hope so .
  7. Sounds like you have a burr in the lower"s slot for the bolt catch . Look in there with a magnifing glass & good light. The pin & set screw would cause some problems ,but as was said a good magnet will probably pull the pin out . You really need to try the magnet ,because I will be getting one of TM's lowers here shortly. <thumbsup> I polish all my catches (and just about every thing that moves ) to de-burr them & cold blue them when done , you can't see the catch part that rides in its slot any way.
  8. Not sure if there is a DPMS type pre ban mag. , maybe the early AR 10 mags ? DPMS & others sell 5 & 10 rd. mags , for those commie states & then there's the bullet button or what ever its called , so you can't use the mag. release. Depends on the state.
  9. Most gun or probably any manufacturers CS rep. will act "matter of factly" ,Your not the first to call about a problem. They get them all , all day long.
  10. You guy's are stopping my heart, stop it <laughs>
  11. Most do not even bother with that measurement because of mag. COL restrictions . Now with bolt action system you can work the COL . I would say every bbl. chamber will be some what different , I use the bullet that shoots the best . May not be scientific, but once you find the right bullet & load , ya got it made , but of course you knew that . If this was a bolt action forum , you would probably get all kinds of answers . With AR's you don't have a lot of COL options.
  12. The Magazine will most likely determine the COL ,some will let you get away with a little more length above the 2.800" & some may jam in them mag. over the 2.800" . The magpul's are a little generous , of course if your loading one round at a time this means nothing . The chamber dimensions will also determine the bullet jump ( 308 vs 7.62 x51 ) or who made the barrel .
  13. The dents in the case are caused by your bolt slamming into the partially fed cartridge on the feed ramp ( bolt lug marks ), from short stroking or it can be a magazine problem also . Looks like you took care of the short stroking ,lets see if it eliminates a potential mag problem also .
  14. Ya , keep that upper assembly & build another upper assembly , the way you want it & you have two rifles. See , were here to help. <thumbsup>
  15. Well I prefer the HB of the two . If you look at the weight difference , its not much at all & the SS HB , IMO ,will shoot better. They will both shoot just fine.
  16. That ul learn ya , you started it, not me ( this time ) <laughs>.
  17. Lets try to keep the shooting of others out of the discussion .
  18. AR 15 & AR 308 take the same trigger groups. Some AR 308's do not like light hammer springs though , but you will find that out on the range & easy to replace, if its too light.
  19. I assume the hand guard is a one piece unit that includes the barrel nut . I have seen them have bad threads or miss aligned threads & or barrel flange face.( Long shot ) I would call the bbl. manufacturer & see what they say , never know . I would inspect the chamber & rifling , could have a screwed up chamber or throat. Like was said , a lot of things could cause the problem . Fulton barrels are top notch in my book .
  20. Get the round count up, as said & use good lubricant . 500 rds at least for break in . Any idea where the brass shavings came from ? How does your fired brass look ?
  21. I do like the look of that hand guard.
  22. I guess Colt is not going to lay down & die . I'm glad , just can't see paying there prices ,but nice they are out there going for it .
  23. I like the chrome ones myself , but the unchromed ones work just fine .
  24. Ya, but try to find them . Last time I looked SI was incommunicado & midway was out of stock . The S/S SI pins are much better than DPMS , post a photo of the FA one for comparison when ya get it ,please.
