I use BCM 7.62 mod 3 (large latch) handles on my .308s.

Go up a half size? I was looking at the Salomon UA Pro 3D Ultra 2 GTX last year but ended up going with the XR Mission. The XR Mission has a really wide toe box, which I need. I didn't find Salomon to be narrow.

The buffers are the same size whether you have a commercial or milspec receiver extension. DPMS doesn't make a heavier .308 carbine buffer AFAIK.

That's the correct weight for DPMS' carbine .308 buffer. Not an optimal weight though...

Sounds like you'll want to convert over to an AR-10 pattern buffer system. Parts you'll need: -VLTOR A5 or BCM Intermediate receiver extension -H3 AR-15 buffer -Armalite AR-10 spring (part #EA1095) You can reuse your castle nut and end plate. That should smooth out and tame your recoil some. For a muzzle brake, a two or three port one should do well. JP, Lantac, Precision Armament, and others make good ones (and they're not suuuper different from each other). Stocks are too subjective to make a single recommendation, but lots of people like the Magpul STR, ACS, ACS-L, and MOE SL. There's also the B5/LMT SOPMOD and B5 Bravo.

Unfortunately I haven't seen any standalone ones. I know my PWS has an NP3 bolt, but you'd need one you could put gas rings on.

NP3 is nickel-teflon, different from nitriding.

There's the new Sig MCX upper... But you wouldn't be able to use the P90 style stock with it. You could use the ARAK-21.

Nope. I bought CBC/Magtech M80 ball. Awful stuff that's loaded HOT. I like their 5.56 loads though. My LMT MWS 16" rifle-gassed barrel runs well, though the CBC stuff still showed high pressure signs.

AR15barrels.com Randal(l)? How's the gas block mounted? Clamp on or set screw? Are there signs of leakage? Have you tried checking the gas block for fit and alignment? Another thing you can try is using a muzzle device that creates some back pressure so that the system (barrel + muzzle device) has the dwell time of a longer barrel. The Griffin Flash Comp and Bad-Ass Battle Comp do this.

Yup, hand stop and thumb stop are all I like. The KAC ones are the lightest you can get.

I have the SRC BBC and Relia-bolt too. My first bolt was part of the bad heat treat batch, but I haven't seen any signs of concern (I'm going to continue running it to see if it fails). Ranger Proof also has a version of this carrier (and they were the first ones out with it AFAIK). Both the Sharps and Ranger Proof are made by Azimuth Technology. I wonder if Ares is as well, or if they just copied the design. Given the cost difference between the Ares one and the others, I'm wondering where they cut corners. If I had to rate "smoothness of pull" from all my 5.56 carriers it'd be BCM, TN Arms NP3, Sharps BBC, Stag Chrome, and PSA. The BCM BCGs always pleasantly surprise me with how smooth they pull. My PWS MK216 BCG (melonite carrier with NP3 bolt) is absolutely ridiculously slick.

How are the bore center lines of all the receivers compared to the bottom of each receiver?

Looks like the Azimuth/Rangerproof/Sharps balanced bolt carrier. I wonder if Ares' is made by Azimuth too or if it's a copy.
