Agreed, ChaseFan9 That is why I take my Chevrolet to a Chevrolet shop and my gun to a gunshop. BTW, do you know where Wikipedia gets their information?

don't think of it as "giving in", sometimes a man has gota do what a man does, even if it turns out bad! LOL
-
Amen Survivalshop guy, Besides the completely difference of cars and firearms in the purpose, nature and applications of an automatic transmission and an 308AR how about thinking about the differences in the engineering, building, materials and uses of those units, talk about comparing ball bearings to bananas!

Very smooth rapid fire semi-auto. I think one of the key features is the 5/8" of slack that lets the operating rod to get up to speed before touching the bolt. Fail to feed, fire or extract-eject was extremely rare and was usually shooter error to make sure he didn't have a"long round" or fail to clean and lube properly I love that old rifle, so much that just recently gave mine to my son along with a full ammo box of LC 1962 .30 ball IN BANDOLEARS Of enblocs as issued at Camp Perry for Rattle Battle. Rattle Battle was a fun type team match for us old codgers.

Some of the best times I had at PENDLETON was shooting a Ma deuce off the ring mount of a five ton prime mover 6X6 at a 55 gallon drum of gasoline set up on the range hill with 1 in 5 tracers. Didn't need tenninite.

I can't ever remember having to use 4 cans of brewski to tie down an 4'x6' tarp. I don't ever remember having 4 cans of brewski in camp.

Don't laugh too much...they all have jobs and appear to be in good physical shape, they are getting the job done, and I didn't see a job steward sitting around with his thumb in his anus.

. I Smoked my share of cedar bark as a kid. Damn stuff will burn your tongue.

Out in real west texas, where few cedar trees grow. Cedar posts are quickly going rare as dodo birds.

Knots: I was a Boy Scout back in the late 1940s and early 1950s the best thing I got out of scouting was an old 1949 edition of the Handbook for Boy Scouts I studied it during cold winter nights, It has a section on knots, fire building and tons of outdoor survival information. I haven't seen a good one for a while but probably can find one on eBay or an online antique book store. I practiced tying knots for my merit badge and still can tie most of them. I never leave home for the woods without my waterproof boy scout match container, and back when I smoked I always had a couple books of matches, and my mini fishing, snare wire kit of a couple of fish hooks 20' feet of monofiliment or Spiderwire. I have used the front lens of my old 8 power binoculars to start a fire in bright sun, works well with some finely fluffed cedar bark or with the powder from a .22 long rifle cartridge, but won't work in rain, cloudy weather or at night of course. One thing you gotta have is a good sharp knife. I love this topic! Mag is a great source for the forum!

Good to hear from another Red Raider over at Lubbock. I was also a mechanical engineer (class of 1959) and proud of it. Welcome from the cross timbers and Comanche County. I was a M1 & M14 shooter until I moved over to field artillery and tracks. It looks like we are likely to get more rain. That is fine by me. These AR platform .308s are new to me.bought a new in the box, and immediately tore it down to see what is working.

Well I guess I could have kept on going East but would have hit the big A pond and places I jist don't feel comfortable carrying jist a.40 and 25 rounds. Turned around and took a shortcut, staying inGods country AKA the LSS.

I gots a trigger, I gots a charging handle... I NEED a set of iron sights to mount on the PIC rail right on top! I use a 1.5 to 4 X scope Bushnell on my LR308 Oracle and really like it, with the Mil dot reticle. But I also have a Leopold 3-9X that is sighted in for 300 Yards if I ever get another chance for a pronghorn permit in the Texas Panhandle. But I still prefer a set of irons. and off comes the glass, except for special occasions. I seldom shoot over 300 yards, usually with a hasty sling. Terrain is limited here in the boonies, out on the high plains I used to use a 20 power Unertal on a .22-250 for prairie dogs, but always used an ironing board and bag of shot type support. I am blessed with excellence long distance eye-sight. I only realized how fortunate I was when I started teaching my wife and a bunch of kids to shoot the NRA .22 rimfire three position 50 foot course. Poor woman has worn glasses for astigmatism since she was 6. Her shooting changed 100% when I mounted a Redfield 3200 scope on her model 64 Anshultz. I think anyone should rig their rifles with the very best sights for them personally, Good experiences enhance their desire to shoot.

What do you have on order or in the mail? Part 2
mrmackc replied to imschur's topic in General Discussion
Hey Rid. that Frankfort Arsenal what-U-ma-call-it looks like it could serve several purposes! -
I have been an NRA life member since 1976 or77, which ever when the Neal Knox surprise knock out punch hit at the National meeting. Basically just get the magazine free every month. I haven't joined anything else, just watch and listen as to what the mouthy dudes all around actually do, usually not much except beg for your dollars in return for lip service. IMHO AARP is a socialist insurance company. I seem to get better info here than at other places, where else would I have found out the skinny about Cheaper than Dirt and the info on Super Semi-Automatic (SSA®) Trigger - Geissele Automatics. I reckon I'll stay around........

Some people with money appear to be et-up with the dumb-ass bug.

Maybe the barrels are chambered for a different caliber?

Damn fine looking hatchets (that's what us oilfield rig-builder tribesmen members of the Hacksaw Nation calls them). One fancy assed hatchet holster there hand.

"In physics, the Coriolis effect is a deflection of moving objects when the motion is described relative to a rotating reference frame. In a reference frame with clockwise rotation, the deflection is to the left of the motion of the object; in one with counter-clockwise rotation, the deflection is to the right." That is gotta be what it wuz.....

And our Peterbilt with the 52' reefer! I generally eat what I shoot, unless it only has 2 legs, monkeys aren't too bad if you can't find any possums! I don't know why Texas even sets a limit on whitetails. I counted 12 fresh road kills between Comanche and Temple (115 miles) Sunday morning when I took my wife to the Scott & White hospital ER. They scoped her out and took out the gall bladder Sunday night and sent her home Monday at noon. Strange it only took me 1 hour and 20 mins. going but two hours coming back.
