It's not a Savage... but I thought I'd toss this one in the ring too...
Mossberg MVP "Patrol" in .308 Win..... It uses DPMS/SR25 style mags too!
Expected price tag about $550-$600
16.5" Fluted Hvy Bbl, w/ 1:10" Twist and 5/8"x24 threads
Like this thread had a greater chance of survival than any previous thread...
Let me check... Tom, Ron, Terry, Jon, Greg, Renee, Dirk, Mike.... Yup all the ingredients for derailment. We didn't even make it to a second page.
This is only because you haven't started investing on customizing it yet... Give us time, we'll drag you over to the dark side.... Kicking and screaming if we have to <outtahere>
I'm an addict...
RRA National Match Trigger from joeboboutfitters.com
I couldn't resist for $95 shipped
A misc order from DSGArms.... because they have the lowest prices around.
I use a lot of Tactical Tailor, TAG, VTAC, AND 5.11 accessories... and of course Safariland for work. Mostly just for the pouches and magazine storage.
I'm very interested in a BDS rig... especially since they do Kryptek! I have a little something in the works at the office. I'm hoping that I may need a dedicated .308 rig in the near future.
I just watched the Hickok45 episode on this pistol. He was pleasantly surprised. I was shocked at all the ingenuity that went into the pistol. Definitely an entry to my "wish list"
Make sure your PRS is the 7.62 version and not the 5.56 version. The 7.62 version has a smaller cheek riser, so you can pull the charging handle back further.
First you should read
Then you'll want to go
As for the Phase 5 vs all others.... The 308AR is often too large in the receiver to accept the BAD lever or the Tactical Link. This isn't the case with ALL receivers, as there is no set standard for the 308AR. They can be hit or miss when fitting. The billet receivers are almost always larger than the forged version.
I have the Phase 5 on my Gen1 SI-D receiver, and I recently installed another on the Gen4 SI-D receiver.
The "Gunfighter" fails to be epic when you put such a large scope on the rifle. It's just too damned cumbersome to reach around the scope and grab that small portion of the CH.
I vehemently suggest considering the Mech Armor Defense "TacOps-1" for any build using a full sized scope. If you were using a red-dot or an ACOG style, the "Gunfighter" would have been enough. You will eventually want more from your CH.
Also, take a look at the Phase5 Extended Bolt Release
You know when someone says, "it ain't half bad."
Well in this case... half of it is bad.
Maybe Heather can hang something on the right... We can't hope for termites, I hear even they have some taste.
I have two set ups... Three if you count work.
I guess the first is my work rig. This year we started wearing external vest carriers. These are load bearing systems. I put everything except my gun on it. I'll try to grab a picture later. I have a drop leg rig that is for my rifle mags.
My second rig is my daily travel bag. I use the 5.11 Tactical MOAB RUSH 12 Shoulder bag. It has everything on it that I need, including a concealed holster and hydration bladder. I put a medic bag on the front, just to get me out of hot water. (pic stolen from the "www")
My last setup is definitely a SHTF RIG. I have the BAE ECLiPSE plate carrier. It's set up for 5.56 right now, but I can swap over to 7.62 in just a few minutes. I even put a 40oz bladder on it. The best part is, I can attach the above bag to the back of this rig for a super full load.
