wow, someone tried to break in my house while we slept!

As a LEO, I want to congratulate you on your reserve and ability to maintain a level head through the experience. That is an extreme stress level that most people will never experience in a lifetime. No one should ever want to have to kill another human being. Whether or not the shoot would be justified, you would have to live with the fact you took the life of another human. Blame it on your humanity, your morals or your conscience, you would feel some level of guilt at some point. Even if the law decided the shoot was justified, there is still a court process and the possibility of a civil suit. However... If your door had failed to keep him out, and the only thing standing between you and Mr Junkie was a load of 00 buck shot, AND you felt that the well-being of your life and that of your family was at risk... Then please feel free send him first class to whatever god he chooses... Dead criminals are never repeat offenders! -
Cut a slot for the magazine catch. Cut back the feed lips a bit. Get an AR10 follower. Modify the top of the mag spring to match the follower. Once you convert to AR10, you cannot convert back to M1A/M14

My father was a SWAT sniper for 17 years, till 2005. His team did the same. Qualification was 1-3 cold bore shots.

A warm semi auto rifle may cycle a bit easier when warm. Bullets will perform better when the powder is warm. You get a faster (more efficient) burn which will give more velocity (range). This is only the case for EXTREME distance shots, well beyond 1,000 yards. No warm barrel will ever outperform itself cold.

I like the Capt. vs Tony Stark scene; Tony Stark: "No offense, but I don't play well with others." Capt: "Big man in a suit of armor. Take that away -- what are you?" Tony Stark:"Uh... genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist." Thor laughs...

Synthetic brushes, for tough jobs, or just wet/dry patches. No need to scrub, just get the debris out. -
I think we need a 308AR.com polo shirt. :o

Something that large could be powder coated or even a spray on bed liner. Good, hard, textured, and resilient... and it wouldn't get hot in the sun! Parkerizing, anodizing, painting, just begs for sun rays to heat up the metal. Just saying, it would be one hell of an option??

First AR Build. Thoughts and Opinions Please.

Don't knock it till you've tried it <thumbsup> -
You can have a mil buffer tube and a commercial stock, but it'll rattle around. That gets annoying real fast. Mil spec is slightly thinner than the commercial stuff. There is absolutely no reason to have one over the other. Just preference.

20 weeks? Try 12+ months! I have been sitting on my thumbs since 04/2011 for my carbon fiber wrapped barrel to be finished. -
I have a good friend that swears they are the greatest pistol ever. He took a lot of heat in the 80's for swapping his M9 for a CZ 75 while stationed in Korea. (I may be wrong about the location, but most of his stories are about Korean hookers so it's an educated guess)

Look at those cute little bullets. They look just like real bullets, only smaller. I think my wife has a few of those in her gear. <laughs>

THE LM8 PLATFORM: THE SMALLER, LIGHTER MORE MANEUVERABLE RAIL PLATFORM FOR TODAY’S BATTLEFIELD FROM LEWIS MACHINE & TOOL COMPANY Now Available as the LM8MRP® MILAN, IL (April 2012) - Lewis Machine & Tool Company (LMT®), an Illinois-based company that designs, prototypes and manufactures small arms, accessories and tooling components for the military, government, law enforcement, commercial manufacturers and responsible civilians introduce the new LM8 platform on two new rifle systems: the LM8MRP® and the LM8MWS®. The LM8 Platform is a combined result of LMT’s consistent philosophy that “Failure is Not an Option” and the changing landscape of modern warfare where combat is more likely to occur in confined urban settings or tight mountain passes. The LM8 platform is a direct evolutionary update from LMT’s benchmark monolithic rail platform making it lighter, smaller, slimmer and more maneuverable than anything before. Now the LM8 platform is available in two rifle systems: the LM8MWS® and the LM8MRP®, both with four versatile rail segments to fit any mission: - 4-rail (1.4″ length) - 6-rail (2.1″ length) - 8-rail (3.0″ length) - 10-rail (3.8″ length) The LM8MWS® is built on a LM308MWS® lower with a SOPMOD Buttstock and a two-stage trigger. The upper receiver has either a 1:10″ twist, chrome-lined barrel or a 1:11.35″ twist in an ultra-match stainless 5R tactical black matte finish barrel. The semi-auto bolt carrier group and tactical charging handle assembly come standard. The LM8MWS® ships with a sling, operator’s manual, tactical adjustable rear and front sight, one 20-round magazine, a torque wrench/driver, four rail-segments and two heavy-duty push button swivels. MSRP starts at $2,998.71. (California Legal Price $2919.96) CALIFORNIA ORDERS MUST BE PLACED OVER THE TELEPHONE http://www.lewismachine.net/ http://www.lmtstore.com/308-modular-weapon-system.html

Anyone with a 3d printer and a computer can download the CAD and make one. I saw one made out of a polymer cutting board. It didn't last long, but it works for a little while.

Team Helotes is right. The entire alphabet soup is covered by the DHS. Don't look at it as a singular agency, but more of a government budget source. FBI, DEA, DOJ, ICE, Boarder Patrol, even LE agencies, all receive from DHS. 450mil sounds like a lot, until you split it up to 250k officers and agents. During this economical nightmare, DHS is almost like a Welfare program created by the government. So many federal and municipal agencies that had to make serious budget cuts. Those cuts took away from training and tools required to do their assigned jobs. Instead of food stamps, DHS sends aid in the form of grant money, vehicles, bullets and other tools. One of our K9's was paid for by DHS.

Which handguard should I choose?
Robocop1051 replied to Livnoutdoors6.8's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
They probably tried this at first. Since all .308's are made different, and to no exact spec, they may have abandoned that idea. It may fit one or two, but fails the rest. Rather remove the feature than get bad reviews from owners of off brand uppers. -
A "standard" DPMS is far from insufficient. A target DPMS barrel will shoot a MOA or better. Aftermarket barrels can increase accuracy, but only if the shooter is capable. If you can't shoot MOA with a DPMS barrel, upgrading it wont make you a better shot. A Rainier Select barrel wouldn't be considered an upgrade. If you are a professional shooter, and you want a barrel that will maximize your skills, expect a $400-$1k price tag on a stainless barrel.

I just bought the 15" Troy VTAC Alpha Rail. I am thuroughly impressed with this rail. Not as light as my Apex, but damn light all the same. The mounting is genius. It mounts to a standard barrel nut. -
