Not knowing it killing me...
Robocop1051 replied to Robocop1051's topic in Battle Arms Development - Terminated
If Roger doesn't chime in, I'm going to start a rumor that they are building AR Uppers.. v1 and v2. I hope they look nice on my Mega lower! <thumbsup> -
I say you look into a Tubb CS spring. A heavy buffer or a the CWS wouldn't be a bad option in addition to the spring. Of course you could pop for an enidine buffer for added effect. Changing from a collapsable to a fixed stock requires changing four fundimental parts; 1. Stock (the most obvious) 2. Buffer tube - most fixed stocks screw into the end of the buffer tube. 3. Buffer - Carbine buffers are much shorter than rifle buffers 4. Buffer spring - The longer rifle springs will prevent full compression during cycling

I'm looking for the topic I found online once. It said something about the M1A having a bedded barrel and the other barrels being free float. I don't remeber everything that was in the thread (I think it was on snipershide.com). Something about the M1A barrels designed to be wrenched down into the frame. I'll keep looking. Update: I found a few more items on THR and Snipershide.com. The more I look at the barrel design I see that the M1A was designed for long distance heavy loads using a 1:10 twist and long barrels. Perhaps the 4R design is part of the harmonics of shooting heavy loads with that twist out of a bedded barrel?? A heavy bullet spinning that fast could cause a lot of friction. Especially if it was being forced through numerous rifling grooves. This is just a theory but do you think that, to slow down barrel wear, they reduced the number of rifling grooves as a standard practice? More friction in the barrel increases wear, and is also slows the bullet down a tad. Perhaps they are getting longer shots and a longer barrel life with only 4R when shooting the heavy loads.... Again, just a theory. I have nothing to back up anything I just wrote.

Yeah, I figured that would all be a huge pipe dream. Great to see all your shining faces first thing in the morning getting your 308 fix. I'm at EOW, and going home.

<thumbsup> You don't even know what they are, but you know you already want one! It's from B.A.D.!! That's like saying Willy Wonka is making a secret candy... You know you're gonna like it before they even make it. -
Ok Battle Arms Development! I've looked, and I've searched, and I've googled, and I've wikia'd, and I've shook my magic 8-ball, and I've called 1-800 fortune tellers... I have been staring at this drop down menu for AGES, waiting for this "coming soon" update. What the heck is a BAD-ARU1 and a BAD-ARU2?? Please feel free to point out how inept I am by directing me back to a part of your website that I may have missed. PS. Even though I don't know what they are yet <dontknow>... You might want to set 5 or 6 of these aside. We'll pressure 98Z5V to buy one first, then survivalshop and Jgun will want one for sure, then Imschur will have to buy one just because RayGun19 wont take pictures of the one the bought, the peer pressure will force edgecrusher and weaponizer to put in an order, lastly I'll feel guilty about posting this and being 98% right forcing me to buy one or two of whatever these damned things are. <lmao>

The only thing I ever liked about the bullpup design is that it forced all you evil south paws to shoot like normal human beings! While I like the look of the SOCOM in this design (that is SHORT), I have to agree with the statements above. It looks like a solution to a problem that didnt exist... You want to sell me something *new* for my M1A/M14... Make my rifle lighter!!! You give me a 7 or 8 pound, sub MOA, Springfield and I have a FAT check waiting for you. Remington has a titanium m700, S&W has titanium revolvers, why can't I have a titanium M1A with a carbon fiber barrel, synthetic stock and polymer rails??? How about we put Christensen Arms and Fulton Armory in a cheap motel room together... We pour them some wine... Turn down the lights... We play some romantic music... Viola! They produce a hybrid mutant baby made of all our favorite lightweight parts! PS. With M1A PMAG's too!!!
-
Personally I went with a PMAG compatible rifle it was important to me to build the lightest weight rifle possible. I started with a JD machine build got halfway done and realized the PMAGs didn't fit correctly. As much as it pained me, the set was really beautiful, I sold the upper/lower match set and bought an SI Defense set. I understand that I am only cutting ounces off... But if I can cut just a few ounces off 4 or 5 parts, that quickly adds up to a pound. My goal is to build a rifle less than 8lbs, and still have it shoot sub 1/2 MOA.... And maintain a managable recoil. This has not a cheap endeavor. It helps that I get PMAGs for $15 through LE.

For months a friend has been talking to me about wanting to buy an AR15. I told him over and over again, "let me build it for you." I even offered to build it for free! I just wanted to make sure that he had a quality rifle. He called me up yesterday very excited about his new rifle he purchased for $900 while I was out of town. I asked where he bought it, and he said it was a gunbroker.com purchase from some small dealer in the south end of the state.... First of all, nothing good has ever come from southern California!!! Today he calls me and tells me that he picked up the upper from the FFL and that he wants to bring it by. He shows up at my door step and hands me a $5 rifle case that came 'free' with the purchase, because the guy had no magazine for the sale. Already my warning bells are going off. I pull the upper from the case and see a bare bones, no-name, 16" carbine w/ a generic quad rail. My friend excitedly points out that it came with a 'free' Magpul rear MBUS... Wait... Why doesn't that look like any of my MBUS's? Why doesn't it snap open/closed correctly? And why does the "Magpul" emblem looks so funny? A sucker is born every minute. My friend fell into a $500 rifle for $900... and the worst part is I don't have the heart to tell him. He'll never use it for anything than shooting at cans on the side of a hill, so I can't be too upset. What really chaps me, is that some guy is selling fake gear to people under the guise that it is popular name brand stuff. I expect that when buying sunglasses in Mexico, I even search the guy out! But when it comes to my guns, false advertising is a big No-No in my book. How bad is one's life when they have to pass off a $20 sight for a $40 sight? Is life really that bad now?

I use one of those brownells 'hide-a-scratch' black pens for damn near everything.

Madhouse beat me to it. I have to say that the FNP is everything the HK and the Sig tried to be. The Sig didn't offer anything I couldn't get from my 1911's, so I never looked favorably at them. As for HK you have three threaded barrel options. The sizes come in "wee", "not-so-wee" and "FREAKIN HUGE". If I were planning lots of heavy combat I would choose the Mk23. If I wanted a carry or competition gun, with the option of a can, I would get the CT. The Tactical looks nice, but I don't see it as the "happy medium". It's too big to carry as CCW and not as accurate as it's MUCH bigger brother. The FNP has all the options, and more, that I would want in a pistol. High capacity, DA/SA, ambidextrous, lightweight, low profile slide... Plus you get a doctor sight and raised tritium iron sights, to look over a can. In comparison to the HK and Sig, it is very affordable too. I have a lot of guns on my wish list, and the FNP is one of them.

SI-Defense makes a BCG that is coated to perform/look similar to a chrome carrier. They work with the assist too. Only problem is $$$$, and the wait time (the BCG's are pre-order only right now). I pre-ordered mine in April with a stainless steel carrier. SI-D wrote me earlier this month that I might not see the BCG till later this summer.

Rail System for AP4 LR308
Robocop1051 replied to woodde66's topic in DPMS LR-308 General, Technical Discussion
The APEX CNC Machine handguards clamp on to the standard DPMS barrel nut. They do not come with a nut, so you'll need to order one if don't already own one. -
I still have my Mega SBU billet upper coming. If that matches well, I'll use it for the 10mm. Otherwise I'm back in the market. I was thinking about the MUR for an extra 5.56 upper. For purely cosmetic reasons I'm now looking at the modular mono upper.
-
I forgot about mix-matching uppers with this lower. The Mega mono upper might be my best option. Might as well go for the piston system too. This is the barrel I really wanted. 14.5" middy 1:8 chambered in 223 Wylde
-
After my 10mm build is finished, I plan on building a 14.5" middy on a VLTOR upper. Jgun, you just solidified my dilemma on whether or not to go with the MUR. The Troy grip is VERY small. I have the MIAD, with the large back strap, for my 308. The smaller rifle felt like it didn't need as large of a grip. I'm trying to keep this rifle more compact. The Troy grip is surprisingly comfortable. My hands are a Med/Lg glove (depending on the maker). I'd bet if my hands were any bigger I'd have issues. My itty-bitty wife thinks it fits great in her hands. The plastic is strong and it looks to be a lot thicker than most other grips. You know when you grab something, and it just feels more sturdy? Well this grip feels a lot more sturdy than an A2 grip, maybe even more sturdy than my MIAD??? The CMC trigger is going to take some getting used to. It feels funny, not in a bad way, but only because it's different. I might do some light sanding to the little nub at the end of the trigger. It's just big enough to be noticed when the edge of your finger rests on it. The trigger pulls very light. I'm guessing it's got to be at the advertised 3.5# mark. If you're looking for it, there is ever-so-slightly a noticeable creep. I didn't notice it at first, and I thought I was just lucky enough to get a trigger with it. Sloooow squeezes produced the creep. I found that if I pull the trigger when in 'safe' it takes up the creep for my first shot. The nice really thing is, if I spent 3 minutes putting that trigger in... It's because I spent 2 of those minutes wondering why I hadn't bought one of thee triggers before?!? I'm very tempted to buy another one for my 308.

I almost forgot to mention... Since I don't know what kind of sights you have. I wanted to point out that Magpul recommends AGAINST putting their MBUS sights on a railed gas block. They mention that the heat of the GB could damage the polymer sights. On the flip side that could just be a "CYA" type disclaimer in case something ever were to happen. That way they can't be held responsible. The JD and the PRI versions of the railed gas blocks look to be either bulky enough, or skeletonized enough, to keep a large percentage of heat from the sights. I also believe the Magpul sights are pretty dang sturdy. I have no doubt they can handle a little warmth. I might be a little more weary if I were shooting full auto... But that's not the case for me.

I know it's not a MA-Ten, but someone had to buy one of these. The beat thing I can say about the Mega billet ambi lower receiver is... GO BUY ONE NOW!! Absolutey beautiful. Perfect lines. It comes with the ambi bolt release pre-installed. The ergonomics of the right side release are spectacular. So far I have the Magpul ACS stock, Tubb CS spring, Troy CQB battle Ax pistol grip, BADASS ambi switch and a CMC trigger. This was a last minute decision to make the purchase, so I'm putting it back on the back burner till my 308 is finished. I still have a Mega billet slick body upper coming in the mail. As soon as that comes in I'll send it to Ron Williams at "RMW Xtreme" to get fitted with a 10mm BCG and barrel.
-
Simple fix. JD machine, DPMS and PRI all make raised .308 rail height gas blocks. They run from about $40-$75. The swap is easy enough that you don't need an armorer to do it for you. Once the new raised rail gas block is installed, you can use your low profile sights again. You could also swap your handguard with a long Magpul MOE ($35) and then slap on a itty-bitty top rail ($7).

Chill, If I had it to do all over again, now, I would probably go with the Christensen Arms complete rifle. First and foremost, they are a custom rifle maker. If there are any issues you have with their 'main line' models, and you want to make some personal changes, contact Courtney (sales@christensenarms.com) in the sales office. They will build you a rifle, and build it well.

Phenomenal customer service

Brushed is my preference. Similar to match the stainless Battle Comp BABC. -
Dave (branson1369): I bought a Mega forged AR15 lower, a Mega billet AR15 ambi lower and a Mega SBU billet upper. Definitely G.T.G.!!! Roger (Battle Arms Dev): I bought a 'special order' short throw BADASS unit. Roger is definitely G.T.G. The following aren't part of this website, but I feel they deserve honorable mention... Josh and Adyn Sonju of "SI-Defense". They hand walked me through a custom order. I can't say enough great thing about their company and their product.
-
Just a heads up. I recently received my Mega Arms billet ambidextrous lower receiver from branson1369. Dave was an awesome guy through the whole process. I unfortunately got stuck in line, along with many MANY other, waiting for Mega to catch up with their orders. I admit to being disgruntled at times, enduring the waiting process. Dave kept in contact with me through the thick and thin of it all. At some points even apologizing for complications beyond his control. Dave stayed true to his word and provided me with an stunningly beautiful new lower. Thanks again Dave! I encourage anyone interested in a MA-Ten, or any of the MEGA Arms products, to contact Dave Branson ( branson1369 ) to get the job done, and done well.
