Weapons Lights, and flashlights general
98Z5V replied to 98Z5V's topic in Optics & Mounts, BUIS,Sights
Brother, if you need this on the gun all the time, you'll need a holster. Right now there are only 5 or 6 companies making Kydex holsters for the PL MIni Valk 2 light. One company that looks good is Werkz LLC, in Potlatch, ID. They're about an hour from you... https://werkz.com/index.php/ -
Take a look at some of the stuff from Primary Arms - their own house-brand scopes. They'd have something to fit your parameters. https://www.primaryarms.com/Brand+Primary-Arms/MCategories+Scopes

I'm laughing my ass off over here, brother...

Same here - zero functional issues on the 4 or 5 that I have. They work flawlessly.

Merry Christmas, all my brothers out there. I'm thankful for the time we take with each other, and grateful for the friendships. If any of you guys have been paying attention to other parts of the board here, you'll be happy to know that the Forum God DID INDEED talk to Santa for me, and helped me out a little... Merry Christmas, Brothers.

First Focal Plane vs. Second Focal Plane is an easy one, as far as description. Which plane is the reticle in?... In SFP scopes, the reticle doesn't change with magnification, and you have to be on a certain magnification level in order to use the ranging capabilities that the scope has - and it's only one setting. Your Reticle, and your observed target, are not in the same plane. On most scopes, tht would be the highest magnification setting, in order to get the reticle and target in the same plane, and be able to range properly. That's not always the case, though, and you have to know what the scope manufacturer states. Example, Nikon Black X1000 scope, 6-24 power - you have to be on 18 power to range... FFP scopes - this is easy - the reticle and target are in the same plane, all the time, and you can be in whatever power you want for range estimation. As you increase the magnification power, the target gets bigger in the objective, and so does the reticle, at the same rate. FFP scopes used to cost alot more than SFP scopes. That's not really the case anymore. Before, if was only the really high-end scope manufacturers that even offered FFP scopes - not so now. If you have the choice between SFP and FFP, and you'll need to range estimate out there, go with FFP, even if it's a few bucks more. If all you do is shoot targets at known distances, on flat ranges, and those distances are always the same, then it won't matter what kind of scope you get. You CAN range estimate with SFP scopes - you just have to make that extra step, and set it on the proper magnification level first... What did I win?...

Forum God... ... I hope it's not too late, I'd hate to interrupt you, but I just have one more thing. That Glock 43X is the perfect combination, I think, between the G43 small frame, and the G48 single stack slimline pistol. It's the perfect world. If you could please, please consider this, and it's under my tree tomorrow morning... maybe we can expose this guy that talks all the "derailing" bullshiit all the time. I'd really appreciate it - just the G43X. We don't have to worry about that guy that's talking the derailing shiit, if you don't want to... I appreciate anything you can do, and I appreciate your presence here, daily. Thank you for what you do... Love, Tom-Ass

^^^ THAT is fucking EPIC!!!...

Forum God... ... if you're still watching. I just want to point something out to you - it might have been something that's under-the-radar here. I just want you to know that the guy that always accuses me of threading-jacking the shiit around here... Yeah, no joke... HE is the one that thread-jacked this one this time. THAT guy did it. Oh, and by the way - if you have any connections with Santa - you know, since we're close to that deadline now... All I want for Christmas is a Glock 43X. Thank you, and much love... Tom-Ass

I'm giving up more of the methodology, and class points here, but this is the "Severe Duty We-Just-Fucked-This-Up" gun. This doesn't need to come out unless you really, really expect to get into some shiit - or you're a LEO in this fucked up country, because they're always a target. This is a Springfield XD-45 LEO model, 4" barrel, full-size grip, with the thumb safety. Not a very common model, and kinda hard to find. This is the closest you're ever gonna get to a 1911, in exact operation, in a striker-fired pistol. Grip safety, thumb safety, and a double-stack .45 ACP striker-fired gun. There's 3 x 13-round mags there, but two of them have 2-round extensions. So, 2 x 15 rd, 1 x 13rd, and one in the pipe = 44 rounds of .45 ACP, on your body. If you need that much, you're in a BAD neighborhood. Streamlight TLR-4 light and/or laser combo, and it overhangs the barrel for a reason. This is the "we ARE fucked" gun, for way-wrong situations. You should know before you go into situations like that, and plan ahead. This one doesn't come out often anymore, except for range time, but it was a daily carry for 4 years. Little Tommy's mentality: Know your surroundings, but more importantly, know what you're getting yourself into, BEFORE you go into it in the first place. Plan ahead. I know some LEOs will argue with me about this, but it's gonna be a short argument. Every gunfight is a rifle fight. Period. If you think otherwise, as soon as some bad guy shows up with a rifle, and all you have is a pistol, it's not a gunfight anymore... You have a "knife" in this gunfight, now. Handguns are NOT primary defensive weapons. Handguns are backup weapons, that allow you to get back to your rifle (primary weapon). That goes for physical separation (my rifle isn't HERE, but I only have my handgun to be able to GET TO IT) and in transitional periods (my rifle is DOWN and I need to shoot RIGHT NOW and get my rifle back in operation). If you're in a big enough gunfight, a pistol won't do it. You don't typically pick that fight, though. For your handgun choices - have a rifle near, that you can get to - that's the main consideration, paramount. Now, inside of that handgun selection, you need to make sure that you have the PROPER handgun (size, caliber, proper ammunition) and ENOUGH of that handgun ammo to fight your way back to your rifle... How far away your rifle is, and what kind of handgun (and amount of handgun ammo) determines your success or failure. If you're close, one mag might do it? Two is one, and one is none - ALWAYS have an extra magazine... If you're far away - what do you need to get back to your rifle? If you need a ruck-full of .45ACP 230gr Ball - you have a bad plan... Just something to think about. I think about it everyday, before I go anywhere. When I go somewhere strange or new - I think about it, and try to plan it out as best I can. That's all you can do. -

In order to not worry you about - you know, the sheer girth and length of that light... I know the long, thick ones freak people out a little... That was on a 19. Here it is on the 17 with the extended barrel. Direct match, for length, but only because of the extended barrel. It'll still overhang a stock G17. -

Yes, it is. It's position is not adjustable. But, that's 1500 lumens of straight badassery, right there, too. There's a reason that you'd get it out there in front of the muzzle, though, like that PL-PRO. That's one of the things that I want to go over, and demonstrate, at the Spring Shoot... -
Oh, you ain't seen the half of it yet, brother. Wait 'til we get you out here for a shoot. We'll learn about thermal combustion through conduction, the science of ambient light and target acquisition, converting liquids to gases and the spontaneous ignition of those gases, calculating cosines, and a bunch of other weird shiit. It's like free tickets to a Tourette's Convention...

You'll love it, brother, or my money-back guarantee. If you think it sucks, I'll send you what you had to pay for it, plus shipping to me. Here's the Mini on a G17 and G19. The fullisize PL-PRO is on the 19X. Here's the Mini on the 19X: -
@edgecrusher sent me this exact thing two years ago, for New Year's... Last year, I forwarded it to Gun Pusher John. THIS year, I get it back from our friend Marc...

Lane's: jtallen83 inspired 21.750" 300 AAC Blackouts
98Z5V replied to Lane's topic in 300 AAC Blackout
For all my 300BLK loads, I'm running Accurate 1680 or Hodgdon H-110. For my .30 Carbine, I'm running Hodgdon H-4227. You find alot of similarities between 300BLK powders and .30 Cal M1 Carbine powders, when you start crossing them all over against each other. -
It is. You are correct with that info. With the eye relief that's built into most modern scopes now, you pretty much want the eyepiece of that scope to end at the back of the upper receiver. Best way to do that is with a cantilever mount. Most of them are 1.5" centerline above the rail - which is another inch above the center of the barrel bore. You wind up with an effective scope height of 2.5", height over bore. Example pic:
