Looks like he's mad-doggin' us, mean-muggin' a little... He needed an ass-whoopin'... Great job!
-
Yep - that's the one based off the DPMS High Rider... It's worth $129 just to get the lower, but that upper... You'll need a MagPul PRS stock with the cheekpiece cranked way up there...
-
I shot last Sunday with a local guy that's got one - we didn't shoot it then, though. He's not impressed with it. I'll grill him more later on the why of that.
-
I'll see if I can scan the Sig Pistol Armorer's Course book. If I can keep the size respectable, I'll upload it.
-
Does this mean we're shooting this coming Sunday?...

@Robert@FULL30... we know how to summon you now... even from the virtual world...

That shot just demolished her heart and lungs. There was no way she was going anywhere but sideways-over. Good shot.

You need a 5.4oz buffer to run a run-of-the-mill eat-any-ammo .308AR in the DPMS or Armalite patterns. That's the reason Armalite only uses 5.4oz buffers. These aren't Race Guns that you need zero recoil on for your next timed follow-up shot, against the timer, against other competitors trying to take home series points or a trophy... You start using lighter buffers, weaker springs, and you have to compromise the design of the gun to get it to run right. Most guys with lighter buffers and weaker springs THINK the gun is over-gassed, because it's recoiling hard as hell. Indeed, it is not over-gassed. It is under-recoiled... They mistakenly "solve" the problem with an adjustable gas block. .308 Rifle Buffers are 5.4oz. They're 5.200" long. Armalite AR-10 Carbine buffers are 5.4oz. They're 3.250" long. AR15 Carbine H3 Buffers are 5.4 oz. They're 3.250" long. (on this and the AR-10 Carbine buffer, you MUST use a carbine receiver extension that is 7 5/8" internal depth... AR15 carbine receiver extensions that are 7.000" internal depth, or Armalite M15 Carbine receiver extensions that are 6 15/16" internal depth, will not work...) KAK makes a heavy buffer that's 2.500" long, to use on a .308AR with the AR15 carbine receiver extensions. It works. It's 5.3oz. Close enough for reliable operation. Run a Sprinco Orange Spring with that combination. It was directly developed for that configuration. This pretty much sums up the information on barrel gas port sizes and gas tube lengths, as well as buffers and buffer weight: Here are known, verified Carbine Receiver Extensions that are a true 7 5/8" internal depth: All AR15 and .308AR Rifle Receiver Extensions are 9 11/16" internal depth. The aftermarket manufacturers very seldom screw that up. AR15 A1 and A2 - use the exact same rifle receiver extension. So do the .308ARs...

Right on - that's kinda what I was thinking. Those are some good people.

Good to see you back in here, brother!
-
You guys have been getting crushed, and it keeps letting up before it gets here. Or, it rols through here weak AF, then finds it balls before it hits you guys... I think we're in for another wet winter here, brother...

What other forum recommended us? That's pretty cool.

Stick with it, and hang in there... Something will come up, sometime...

You could straight run that N6 upper on an Armalite AR-10B lower, too. It has to be a lower receiver with the angle cut in the back of it. No gunsmith is gonna machine (and no machinist is gonna machine) that upper to fit a DPMS-based lower receiver that's got the circle-cut at the back of it. Machining the lips out of the bottom of the upper receiver, to clear DPMS-based magazines is another story - but it won't fix the upper/lower fitment between those two patterns. If you run the 10B lower receiver - you're locked in to Armalite AR-10 magazines. There's no bad side to that, because they're reliable mags. You just won't be running P-Mags or D-50 drums in the gun. Running the Armalite AR-10 based guts in a DPMS-based gun - perfectly doable, and it works. This thing below is an Aero Precision M5 receiver set and rail, with Armalite AR-10 Carbine Recoil System, AR-10 BCG, 13.5" barrel, and AR-10 Tunable Competition Brake (pinned and welded, 16.1" long barrel assembly). Runs like a champ, never a hiccup. In your shoes, I'd do as JT suggested above - just pick up a set of M5 receivers from Aero, run the guts from that N6 upper in that, with an AR-10 Carbine Recoil System, and you're running DMPS-based magazines that way, without any headaches. Save that N6 upper receiver, and keeps your eyes out for either the N6 lower, or an AR-10B lower sometime. If you score one in the future, you can rebuild the gun into those receivers.

Thanks, brother, on the shooting stuff. I do what I can, and I always remember wise words from a former mentor - "Even a blind monkey finds a banana once in awhile..." These two new jackasses are something else. I think they're possessed. They're maybe 3lbs each now, but they sound like a herd of elephants slamming through the house. It's unreal. They have TactiCat on edge, and he'll put them in place every time his opportunity comes up - SMACK!... Bitchy Cat keeps her distance, because she just wants to eat them and be done with it. It's straight mayhem in this house right now...

That's a badass BA barrel right there, brother - for the money, you couldn't beat that if the sale price was $50 higher than $110...

Took this thing out today, with GP John and another local buddy. They were both zeroing in and shooting new 6.5 Creedmoor guns. John was on a Bergara bolt gun, and the other guy was on a Ruger Precision Rifle. I took the Valk out there, and the Mk11. Set zero paper targets and IPSC steel at 100 yards, and put another IPSC steel at 475 yards. This is a keeper - it did really well. It literally took 3 rounds to re-zero the scope to this rifle. This barrel is also almost 10 years old now, so it definitely didn't need broken in at all... After getting the scope on paper and centered back up, I just plugged the steel. After that I got the Valk out to play with it. Here's the 100 steel - Valk in the head, .308 Win in the chest. After running those two at 100, I switched right over to the 475 target. It was 3.0 mils of hold for both guns - Valk and Mk11. There's a bunch of hits on this plate, because we were all shooting it out there - but it's easy to see what was 6.5C, .224 Valk, and .308 Win... Here's the 475 view from the gun: This is when I was pulling the target for the day, looking back at the shooting location: Good day, men!!! NEXUS 168gr Match ammo report - had a bad box of ammo, out of the 3 boxes I took out there. Shooting 100 steel at the end, I put the rest of a mag in the steel. Changed mags to a full 20-rounder, reduced "pop", very little kick, and NO IMPACT on steel at 100. Weird, I was just thumping it... Pulled the BCG, looked down the barrel - clear, no obstructions. I had to manually eject that piece of brass - the BCG didn't move at all. Alright, bad load, on to Round #2 - same exact thing. Checked the barrel, clear, on to #3, same thing. Did NOT check the barrel, just manually ejected each round, individually, and shot the next. All 20 were bad. In all honesty, ALL of the .308 Win ammo and half of the .260 ammo that we received from them was "2nds." This was the only box of 168 .308 Win that did this - fired another box right after it, thumping the hell out of the steel...

These jackasses that I have are better than some people... and WAY better than my ex-wife!...

New and need help - 260 rem cycling problem
98Z5V replied to Radioactive's topic in General Discussion
Want me to send you 20 rounds of my handloads? If they don't cycle your gun, nothing will. They're not dangerous, no high pressure signs - just solid loads with 147 ELD-Ms. -
I think the news people/weather people are blowing this out of proportion. We have dust devils all the time out here - technically, those are tornadoes, too - just not underneath a rainy storm cloud. We have high winds all the time, routinely during storm seasons, and they can uproot trees and rip up roofs. As soon as that wind storm starts spinning in a circle, and rain is involved, the weather people are quick to brag about "tornado" this and that. Here's one from September this year. Big Bad Tornado... I was in two real-deal tornadoes as a kid in Ohio, that really ripped up the earth and tore up my small town. What's going on out here is just weather/news sensationalism...

Speaking of that, and .300 Win Mag - keep an eye on Witt Machine. That's where I got my brake from for mine. The brake works wonders on that gun. They do have a Black Friday sale that's still going on - 25% off. https://www.wittmachine.net/custom-clamp-on-muzzle-brake.html

@Crimsonboat, you have a barrel yet? This is an early email for Primary Arms Cyber Monday deals - this BA barrel is a ridiculous deal, at $110. This is nuts. https://www.primaryarms.com/ballistic-advantage-ar-10-308-16-mid-length-barrel-5-8x24-babl308003m?trk_msg=FTA95C25I1B4DEJT9G8OIQ6L6O&trk_contact=8V0L65B89JG3CKL2PPP2IG35AC&trk_sid=L3Q6OOTRHGVKG6TIBIDCCQ3R58&utm_source=listrak&utm_medium=email&utm_term=SLOT_21&utm_campaign=19_12_AD01_CyberMon_Cali

It's all the same, at this point - it's all good. 2 topics ongoing at the same time, the natural AD/HD of the crowd here - we kinda combined them... I can talk .22LR all day long, too - that CZ is a good gun. For that bolt .22 route, I went Savage FV-SR, so I had a great .22, 16" threaded barrel, and a trigger I didn't have to replace. Put it in a Boyd's (old) TactiCool stock, went with modded bottom metal, and painted the hell out of it. For Ruger 10/22s, I'm sitting on 3 of them that have been "quite" modified. People don't understand - .22LR is a sickness, too...
-
Completely. @Crimsonboat, you're already building a badass .308AR. Next up for me would be that .300 Win Mag bolt gun, hands down. That's SO MUCH MORE capability, right there... After that, I'd just build a .260 Rem or 6.5 Creedmoor upper, for that .308AR lower that you're already working on right now - and shoot that one. Over time, I'd just develop a dedicated lower receiver for it, and make it a whole gun. This sickness never ends, man, just sayin'...
-
DPMS started it, way back in the day, on their LR-308 lower receivers. No kidding, they started it all. I just wish ALL the manufacturers did it - it only makes sense...
