Tech Sights.
I lucked into a 1973 in an estate sale. All metal and wood, no plastic. Removed the original barrel and installed a modern take-off barrel on it, added Tech Sights, and every part that Power Custom (Grandmasters, LLC) makes for the action. That's my Appleseed trainer rifle, right there, and it's sweet. Convert the bolt release to an auto bolt release - that should be mandatory on all 10/22s. You can do it at home, with a dremel or a file.
Just remove that nub, and take it flat across there - after that, you add a slight curve, or radius to it, and it's done.
