Turned it on max bright to get it on the camera - it's not harmed in any way, and is perfect on the lower settings, just like normal. XDs is a complete bitch to break all the way down to the bare frame and bare slide. Already done that once on the slide, and twice on the frame. Not looking forward to doing it to paint it, but I'll manage. It just sucks.

Had a little setback painting today - detailed elsewhere. Rifle parts came out of the oven, and it's getting assembled. XD won't get it - just don't have time today.

Metal rifle parts are gassing out right now, then get painted/baked. Will work on the few rifle plastic pieces (with EOTech) and XD frame next. XD slide in Burnt Bronze is last. XDs isn't getting painted today - just the XD. Gonna see how it turns out first, because I don't mind redoing it if I don't like it. When I get to the XDs, I only wanna do that one ONE TIME. That little bastard is hard to strip down.

Magnification - just like putting a magnified scope on your rifle. You can't see the front sight post through the scope, usually when you've got it about 1.5 power and up. The reason that happens is because the scope is already focusing beyond that distance, where your front sight post is on the rifle. Same thing here.

From the sounds of your post, you're doing this in your house, trying to function-check this thing - on a bone-dry build. In the living room. You need to lube the hell out of it and shoot it with some commercial (known good) ammo. Get a couple hundred rounds down the pipe, and report the results. Unless I'm way off in my interpretation of your post...
