kayak Posted November 13, 2014 Report Posted November 13, 2014 Would easing the bolt close rather than letting it slam forward (trying to be stealthy in a hunting situation) affect the first round point of impact?
edgecrusher Posted November 13, 2014 Report Posted November 13, 2014 If you ease the bolt closed, or ride your handle, you are risking the bolt not fully seating the bullet in the chamber, and opening up a huge possibility of injury or worse. Not recommended. Why not have a round chambered with the safety on?
FaRKle! Posted November 13, 2014 Report Posted November 13, 2014 Would easing the bolt close rather than letting it slam forward (trying to be stealthy in a hunting situation) affect the first round point of impact?I would imagine letting the BCG slam home is more consistent with how the gun operates normally when loading the next round.
kayak Posted November 13, 2014 Author Report Posted November 13, 2014 Edge, round chambered and safety on is what I have been doing. I was just looking for another option that would put me further away from the house before chambering a round. Thanks for the responses.
Rsquared Posted November 14, 2014 Report Posted November 14, 2014 Round chambered....safety on.....muzzle facing the ground. There shouldn't be any other question. Edge and Farkle were just stating the obvious. Not being demeaning or questioning. Just that we get all kinds around here lately. Nothing meant towards you Kayak.
kayak Posted November 14, 2014 Author Report Posted November 14, 2014 No offense taken. If my response indicated otherwise, I apologize.
Magwa Posted November 14, 2014 Report Posted November 14, 2014 Yep as you clear the porch send one home check saftey and point in a safe direction you never know where Mr. big buck will turn up but most times it is where you do not expect it.. be prepared...
shepp Posted November 14, 2014 Report Posted November 14, 2014 I've never had luck easing the bolt shut, last year I got in stand and forgot to close the bolt, I had the deer in my sights 150 yards thru the hard woods pulled the trigger, F I forgot to chamber a round I let that SOB fly deer spooked but didn't bolt as they couldn't pin point me with the echo and I drove one right thru the boiler room. I know it sucks making all that noise but better safe than sorry. And also stated the next how many ever rounds are going to be slammed in there the same way

Rack it like your at the Range .

Robocop1051 Posted November 16, 2014 Report Posted November 16, 2014 Contrary to popular belief, deer don't spook at every single sound. They usually require multiple sounds, or visual confirmation, of a threat before they bolt. You should still have ample enough time to let one fly.
shepp Posted November 16, 2014 Report Posted November 16, 2014 Ya ,But you won't hear the next round chamber <lmao> Would easing the bolt close rather than letting it slam forward affect the first round point of impact? Agreed survival but there where two parts to the question and as edge and I think Farkle said slamming it in isn't going to affect the impact point as the operation of the gas system is just going to do the same anyways. Atleast that's what I get outta his question anyway And second what rob said
