unforgiven Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 Hard to tell by pic.CMP http://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/rifle_sales/m1-garand/ 1K isn't crazy. On the Garand collector back page M1 from WW II era are 3-4K.Not a bad deal for a damn good rifle brother.
Microgunner Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 It's hard to tell from the pics but even very well used and beaten working Garands will still fetch $800.
unforgiven Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) The guy that was selling the one I got wanted $900.00 but took a trade of my RRA Coyote 20" HBAR instead. It was a win for the both of us.I had over 5K down the pipe when I traded. Edited December 15, 2014 by unforgiven
mineralman55 Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) The seller doesn't appear well informed either. There's no info to make an informed judgement.. Manufacturer? SN? Barrel stamp, date, Throat and breech condition? Trigger to stock lockup? "Correct" or mixmaster? Etc. Caveat emptor. Oh yeah, in the title... it's Garand. Edited December 15, 2014 by mineralman55

Some people have asked him some of those questions and he's really not answered other than some serial #. I've got no clue what I should be looking for, this is like the 4th time he's posted it in a few weeks I'm thinking he's getting desperate. And sorry for the miss spelling Edited December 15, 2014 by shepp
unforgiven Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 Some of the CMP Garands are mixed parts.Mine is HRA with a Springfield trigger group. The only reason I won't do anything to the one I have is because of the date on the barrel. It shoots that all that matters to me.And it can use it in a sanction match as that was what it was used for by seller and dad.Get the rifle and tweek it if you want.New barrel's are not expensive.Fulton Armory and Orion will tune the rifle to whatever you want,or spend 2K for a new rifle from Fulton Armory or Orion.I been spending money on gifts for myself and the family but I would really like another.Go for it brother Neal <thumbsup>
shibiwan Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) No, you're doing it wrong. Lowball him at FAI HUNDRED DORRA! Edited December 15, 2014 by shibiwan
survivalshop Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) The ser.# can be looked up for when it was made . I'm not sure ,but I thought the CMP rifles were unissued , but I could be wrong . Mine is a Springfield Armory with TRW IHC Bolt & was made in December of 1943. http://oldguns.net/sn_php/mildateslookup.php?file=us_m1grndsp.dat Edited December 17, 2014 by survivalshop

Mine is a Springfield Armory with TRW Bolt & was made in December of 1943. http://oldguns.net/sn_php/mildateslookup.php?file=us_m1grndsp.dat If it's truly unissued, then it will be in the CMP auction site and go for >$5000. These are usually well used rifles w/ mixed manufacturers' parts. $1050 is too much unless seller can provide details that it is "correct" (all parts from same manufacturer and similar time period.) Offer him $675 and go from there. I'm pretty sure TRW did not make bolts for the Garand, only the M14/M1A. Edited December 16, 2014 by mineralman55
survivalshop Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 (edited) Your going to make me look <dontknow> Its a IHC , International Harvester Company , I had them confused . Edited December 17, 2014 by survivalshop
mineralman55 Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 Your going to make me look <dontknow> Its a IHC , International Harvester Company , I had them confused . Oooow! IHC is relatively rare. It's not a reweld, is it?
unforgiven Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 I would love to have a Garand from the 40's.
mineralman55 Posted December 18, 2014 Report Posted December 18, 2014 I would love to have a Garand from the 40's. I've got three!!! <laughs>
planeflyer21 Posted December 18, 2014 Report Posted December 18, 2014 I've got three!!! <laughs> Show off <lmao> When he heard the price of the last one he bought, that's what happened to his eyes. <laughs>
mineralman55 Posted December 18, 2014 Report Posted December 18, 2014 Just to further piss you off, Unforgiven only said 'from the '40's'. I wasn't counting my others. <nutkick>

Rsquared Posted December 19, 2014 Report Posted December 19, 2014 Just to further piss you off, Unforgiven only said 'from the '40's'. I wasn't counting my others. <nutkick> Well that's a high quality problem.
98Z5V Posted December 19, 2014 Report Posted December 19, 2014 No, that's a hoarding problem. As soon as Obama hears about it, he'll distribute those Garands to other members of the board, here... <lmao>
mineralman55 Posted December 19, 2014 Report Posted December 19, 2014 Actually, not hoarding. There is a plan. I told my children after they move out and securely establish themselves, each will get an M1 and a sidearm. They love the idea.
survivalshop Posted December 19, 2014 Report Posted December 19, 2014 Ya , my Daughter was all about that until she went to Collage & they broke her . She's no longer interested in shooting or my firearms or my Vintage Harley's ( I was going to give her one ), if you say that will never happen to MY children , I thought that also . <dontknow>

One is a Service Grade and one Correct Grade. The Service is a 1944 barreled mixmaster not a bad shooter. the Correct is from 1954 and is a great shooter. I purchased both of these from CMP North. Looks like you guys might want to take a trip to CMP South in Anniston, Alabama. service grades are still around for 500-600 range. I got my Correct at 925.00 but they are long gone.
