None that I've seen.  The surface hardness of the annodizing is only gonna increase the scratch resistance, not necessarily increase the ridigity or strength of the part itself.  And Cerakote is pretty damn scratch resistant.

Beachmaster, I have, among the lowers I've puttered through, a couple of poly ar lowers. A cavarms and another- forget the name. The whole complete lower with poly hammer, trigger, lower and such was about $100 back when parts and lowers were really high. I haven't beaten any of them to death. Low round counts but so far they still are intact. I bought them just as a lark. But for the wife I'd go with something I had more confidence in, like aluminum.

Thanks for the info guys!

I am not super worried about Recoil, more just about overall weight.

She is right handed, but left eye dominant, so she has to shoot on her weak side. And weighing in at a whopping 105lbs, her strong side isn't all that strong either ;-)

But I am thinking that I'll build this light, put a nice small red dot or holographic sight on it, and a fat compensator lol

Probably just because I like fat compensators.

Picked up on this in the X-Caliber thread:

Anyways, I was thinking of a pencil weight 16" rifle length gas system for the wife... What do yall think? It should shoot like a powder puff especially with a comp on it.

On a 5.56 rifle, 16"  barrels with rifle gas don't do as well as on the .308 platform - the .308 Win round just has the capability of producing ALOT of gas. Not so much with 5.56.  A 5.56 16" barrel with midlength gas will be shooting like a powder puff, with a decent comp on it.  Gas port diameter for that config should be around 0.080" diameter.  Even with a standard carbine buffer, she's be just fine.  If she wanted a little more taken out of it, the H1 buffer would be the ticket.

You go rifle length on the gas system, and you're gonna need more handguard to get to the gas block that's another 3" further down the barrel, over a midlength system.  Rifle system would also push the weight of the gas block that much further forward, increasing swing weight - might not be alot, but it's something, and perception is reality...

My $0.02...

^^^  Yep.  That's exactly what I put on my little lightweight.  Also, one on the Gunsite Scout Rifle, and it's still alive.  One more on the 45-70, just to see if it will live, and it's at 150 rounds through it so far.  Tough red dot.

(and one on Pinky, one on the M1 Carbine, one on the AR45 and one the 9mm, one on several different other 5.56 guns...)

^^^  I think the one on the 9mm is a Bushnell TRS25...  The PA red dot is a tough bastard...

Ok sweet!

Yeah, I kept hearing about primary arms. I'll have to check them out.

I can't afford to get the wife anything above... Lower mid grade, so that sounds like it would fit the bill!

Vortex offers a similarly priced red dot that is popular too, don't they?

I've got that strike fire II, not a big fan of it is be willing to part with it, maybe barter? I really liked those primary arms ones that 98 suggested I think it was his 45AR I shot with one mounted on it

I've had a TRS-25 for almost 2 years. First one drained the battery in the cold but they made it right, the one they sent to replace it has worked fine well below zero and near 95 degrees with no issues.

i think that that strike fire is the one that I was looking at.

Depending on what you want I could offer a trade.

Or if your willing to hang on to it for a little bit maybe  I could buy it.

I've had it this long I can hold it longer, I've got two different mounting rings for it too. It's got a few blems but works just fine, I'll pm you pictures

Jacob, don't let her know you're building it - and she can shoot mine when you come out in Oct...  See if she like it, without asking questions that would give away your plans...
