shepp Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 (edited) Leaning towards binos because I could use them for more than just peeping my targets, but I need somthing. Don't want to break the bank but good quality for hunting and checking targets thanks Edited January 27, 2017 by shepp
planeflyer21 Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 Another option, I have a small hand-held monocular. Something like 10-30x power. Got it really cheap at Sportsman's Guide, like $10. It makes me want one made with good optics.
Sisco Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 Binos are fine until you get out to 200 yards, then unless they are high quality, it gets hard to see the bullet holes.
98Z5V Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 Good binos are usually fixed-power, also.
Robocop1051 Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 I like 8x binos. Good 10x are too $$$ and anything over 10x are usually too shaky for me to use. I have a set of Nikon 8x in my bag. My old man has a Swarovski 10x that I've tried to steal several times.
98Z5V Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 (edited) And spotting scopes go up to 60x. They are tripod-mandatory. Old .mil days was the Steiner 10x binos, and those things are badass. The "real" ones had a mil-graduation reticle, and are pricey. Edited January 27, 2017 by 98Z5V

Bright as hell!
blue109 Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 I know optics have that point of diminishing returns...but my bros $2000 Swaro 10x binos are just amazing. I see the milsurp Steiners used online now and then for decent deals. One of these days I'll snatch a pair.
shepp Posted January 27, 2017 Author Report Posted January 27, 2017 I was looking at vortex site last night, they have a few pairs under or right around 200$

shepp Posted January 27, 2017 Author Report Posted January 27, 2017 I'm gonna try sneaking over to the local big boxes before I leave Madison today. Something I need to put my grubby hands on before I buy. As always I appreciate the input
