Easily 4...

1st. Your .300 Win. Mag

2nd. Tom's .300 Win. Mag

3rd. Eric's 6.5 PRC

4th. Paul's .50 BMG

5th. Mike's Savage .338 Lapua Mag

6th. My Tikka 6.5 Creedmoore

7th. Joy's .300 Norma Mag

There's probably something I'm failing to recall but those are the ones I distinctly remember.

That's a pretty impressive list!

The focus of this shoot, for me, was to get Joy's new rig all broke in and sorted out.  @Magwa is a lot to blame for this!  After she hit the Mile, 2k and the 2300 with his new Savage in 338 LM last Fall, she made the call to my gunsmith from the platform and told him, "start the build".  We literally took the barrel off the lathe the Saturday before the shoot.  All of the critical dimensions were held to a tolerance of .00005".  It's absolutely as perfect as can be made.  I got it all assembled and test loads put together for it  before we left for the dirt on Thursday.  Still had to mount the scope and rail while we were out there to be ready for when Joy showed up on Friday.

I had a bunch of my old 220 gr ELD-X's that I used to run in my Win Mag before I switched to the 225 ELD-M at the relentless ribbing from @98Z5V:hornet:  I picked up the cheapest available powder that had a book recipe, StaBall HD.  Book max is 83 grains so I loaded the brand new, sized and neck turned Lapua brass with 80 gr and found some old CCI 250 Magnum primers to start the party.  Seated the bullet to book spec and ran with scissors.  Did the whole clean/shoot break in process for the first 20 rounds and then we launched repeatedly at a mile for the next 80 rounds.  It was impressive, to say the least.  This thing is gonna be an absolute HAMMER when I get the actual load put together for it.  250 gr A-TIP's, Retumbo or N570 powder and Fed GM215M's.  Target speed is going to be 2,900 fps with the 250's.  With the break in ammo, it settled in right at 2,915-2,920 with 8-12 SD's.  I'm expecting low single digit SD's with the final load.

The barrel is a hand-picked Hart, 1.25" dia, 1:8 chambered in 300 Norma Magnum and finished at 29.5" by my buddy Andrew Schear who owns Thermal Suppressors here in Phoenix.  Check him out online.  He makes some nice stuff.  Action is made by Kauger Arms, a family company out of Georgia making some really high quality actions.  Timney Trigger set under 1 lb.  Chassis is from Accuracy Solutions and the Bi-pod is an Accutac HD-50.  Glass is a Zeiss LRP S3 with 55 MILS of internal adjustment.  20 MOA Base and a 40 MOA Sphur Mount.  Zeroed at 100 yds, my calculations say that we should be able to dial to 3K.  Wow!  It will have a 5 port Super Beast Brake from Muzzle Brakes and More as soon as it shows up.  We ran her 30 cal Thermal Suppressors can on it for this shoot.

I tried to let everyone take a poke with it that was standing there while we were shooting.  I think everyone that shot it, hit the mile.  Pretty impressive setup.

Here's the gun I'm talking about...

image.thumb.jpeg.80c0c5f3c60b2c067f495f93e837356d.jpeg

Here's the reference thread...

Here's my ultimate assessment.  It ROCKS...

So, bottom line - this upper receiver setup from Aero is THEE SHIIT for a 14.5"!!!

The PA 1~6 scope is perfect for what I wanted to try, and I had to make the choice between one in yards, or meters, and the meters was discounted lower.  Bought the meter scope.  No big deal, the BDC in it ranges in meters, it's setup in meters, it all works.

Took it out last weekend for the Spring Shoot, like in the pic above, and set up my zero target at 110 yards - 100 meters.  Had a confirmation target at 330 yards - 300 meters.  The typical 450 yard target - that's close enough to 400 meters.  The 608 yard target - that's close enough to 550 meters...

It rang ALL of them, once dialed in.  The scope works.  The barrel is STUPID accurate with my 75gr handloads, the Mk262 clones.  This 14.5" just WORKS.  The upper is a work of art.

SO, we roll to the SDTF on Thursday for the shoot, we're there until Sunday.  Saturday, GunPusher John sends me a text that our M4E1 PRO lower have FINALLY showed up at the shop!  Too late, already zero'd and shot the gun, as is, just to shoot it, but at least the lowers came in.

Picked up one of the lowers this morning, came home, took the recoil system off this gun, and built out the new lower.  I gotta say, Aero knocked this M4E1 PRO stuff outta the park!

This is my new favorite 14.5" 5.56 gun, for sure.

I'll cross-post this into the Spring Shoot thread...

I didn't get a chance to do any scouting for longer target placement on this trip.  We're headed back out in a couple weeks, so I'll try to get some recon done at that time.  We have some ideas...

sounds good I am pretty sure we can get 2500 straight behind the mile and I have no idea how far that bucket is off to the left of the mile one canyon over but yes lots of options....and I have a 8 K range finder now as well

We had a couple guys this time with accurate range finders that can do longer distances.  From where we were set up we got ranges between 1755-1762 yds. Is that right? @98Z5V? Amazing that I was able to get that close to exactly a mile just with OnX Hunt app.  Close enough to call it close enough!

Anytime on x comes up I tell the story of the morning you realized the long range targets were visible from camp and that you were able to range it from camp, it’s such a great tool

Yep.  Shaun's SIG 4k binos hit it right damn near dead-on.  Within a couple yards, and that was handheld, not braced against anything.  When I braced up, it gave me another 2 yards on what I lased before.  He told me he got them for $400, they were the cheapest ones that SIG makes, but I don't remember the model.  4k something.

Wait 'til you fukkers meet Shaun...   :lmao::banana:

He's a buddy of mine that I met a couple years ago.  Ex Canadian SF Combat Vet.  Him and @98Z5V have all the things to talk about.  He's all about sending rounds down range.  I'm pretty sure he had the highest round count at this shoot.  Lol.

Musket is Shaun's 100 lb German Shepard dog.  He's trained, and he's a badass.  He likes to meet new people, and when he meets new people, he will snout-punch you right in the nuts on a full charge at you, ...

Just to let you know he's there, and he's watching you...  :laffs:

When he charges you...   Just don't flinch...   :lmao:
