MMM1LA
Hello. $3000 to spend. Best .308 for that budget? Want it to be for tactical/some hog and medium range coyote. Very interested in all suggestions. Thanks in advance.
imschur
Does $3000 budget include glass? or is that separate?
edgecrusher
Does $3000 budget include glass? or is that separate? In addition to this can you build or prefer an out of the box rifle?
Matt.Cross
I like this guy already, brief, to the point, and ready to spend serious money on a .308 AR. Welcome to our den of enablers! Based on your description so far, I'm thinking 18" barrel, spend $500 - $800 on optics and put the rest into whatever rifle best fills the rest of the details in for you. The value that you get out of barrels and triggers CANNOT be overstated. Outside of your own skill with the rifle, they will be primary influences on the accuracy you can achieve, IMHO. MMM1LA
This forum rocks. The budget is fun only, glass is separate. Prefer to buy already built. Agree that quality is paramount. What are you guys seeing that would fit this? Already have Daniel Defense in 5.56. Thanks again. Already getting grief from my wife for spending too much time on this. Ha! edgecrusher
Factory built at that price : Larue, I have one, can shoot the dick off a tick at any range! Also won't bat an eye suggesting LWRC and Pof.There are many others out there that are quality rifles, but if you gave me the money and said to buy one off the shelf, these are my choices. Welcome to poverty.
MMM1LA
Thanks. I have been saving for awhile. What does anyone think of Hogan? I like LaRue but aren't they >3k?
unforgiven
Welcome brother MMM1LA 3k is a good budget lots of good products in that range,as has been mentioned. If she's :love4:rubbed now wait till later. :rant2: <lmao> <laughs>
imschur
I would be tempted to spring for that new Colt. After that the Armalite SuperSASS or Larue would be my personal choices
Matt.Cross
As far as ready-made rifles go, this option is hard to beat as well:http://www.gaprecision.net/ga-precision-2012-custom-rifles/ga-precision-g.a.-precision-gap-10-.htmlThey have an excellent reputation for both their product, and their customer service. MMM1LA
Matt - the GAP 10 has moved up near the top. Thanks. Does anyone have an opinion on the Sig?
edgecrusher
I like LaRue but aren't they >3k?Holy crap, guess its been a while since the days of preordering the OBR!The GAP precision rifle, if its anything like their bolt guns you can't go wrong! planeflyer21
The SIG Precision Marksman 716? Yeah...can't get what isn't being shipped yet.I was all over one of them but they keep pushing back the dates.Jon
NoFail
It's more fun to build and you can personalize it once and be done. But I'm leaning towards the GAP 10 with your budget if you don't want to build. Actually nobody has said it but I know we have more fun too when you build it yourself. I don't know what wait times are like now if you do buy whole, but I bet it's no better than it has been, no surprise if worse now. I bet you can have a fine working tool significantly sooner if you DYI, and really it's easy. But GAP 10 built too your app and you're golden when you receive it. Rsquared
I'd roll with either an Armalite SuperSASS like imschur suggested, a LWRC Reaper or a POF (as edge suggested). I've got the SASS, and my son has the Reaper. Both are outstanding rifles, running straight or with suppressors. Highly accurate and just outright fun to shoot (as if any of them aren't). I've got a POF on order (for a loooooong time), so that says what I think about thier quality. Good to see that you're not flinching at some of the prices that come with the larger AR platform. Alot to choose from......but as always, unless you stumble across a hell of a deal, you get what you pay for.
Jgun
Buddy of mine just put a deposit on the LMT .308. It's a monolithic design with a quick change barrel setup, so you can change calibers, and barrel lengths, and they can be had for under 3K. MMM1LA
Ok. Narrowed down to GAP or the SIG. With the SIG I can have extra dough for even better glass and weapon light but I hear its trigger is crappy. Anyone know anything about the SIG? Get the trigger YOU want, deck it all out how you want in the beginning.I forgot about the LMT MWS too. My son ordered one a month or so ago. 6 months is what they told him. Actually, as I remember now, that's the one I recommended too him. I told him to get the SS match barrel too. But if he lived close to me I would have made him build his own instead. Then I could help him do it.
