gunhand Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 Hi all, I've got the chance to buy a Rock River Elite Operator, it is purported to have only had only 200 rounds fired. It comes with the case, and nine Thermold magazines. I can get it for $1,100.00. My question is, I have seen many reports of the FAL magazines not working well in the rifles. I happen to have a ton of metric FAL mags, and the R.R. interests me. But I obviously don't want to spend the money if I am going to have problems. So I'm looking for some no B.S. information before I do the deal. Thanks All!!
edgecrusher Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 The RR guys will be here shortly, but I say hell yes that's a screaming deal!
blue109 Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 How is it that every single rifle ever sold online has had exactly 200 rounds through it?
Armed Eye Doc Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 I have fired "exactly 200" rounds through mine as well. ;D I have numerous metal, metric FAL mags and the one RR mag that came with it. I have had no trouble whatsoever with any of them feeding and cycling as expected. I say go for it. It sounds like a great deal.
Tripledeuce Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 (edited) I'v had to do a little , very little filing on my metal FAL mags. Go for it! Respectfully Terry I have metric and inch metal mags. The inch seemed to work better in mine. The plastic RRA worked the best. Edited July 28, 2013 by Tripledeuce
unforgiven Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 I picked up some used FN/FAL mags and put Wolf springs in them, just to do it.They work great.A robust mag for sure.I got poly mags also, but wouldn't get rid of metal.I have the Standard Operator.Love it. <thumbsup>
Rsquared Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 I'm not a Rock River guy, but at that price you can't go wrong. Any issue can have a work-around thrown at it for that kind of deal. Like all the other guys are saying.....Go For It!
planeflyer21 Posted July 29, 2013 Report Posted July 29, 2013 I have both the Operator and Elite Operator. With the caveat that "every rifle is a enigma unto itself", my EO is the go-to gun and functions flawlessy with the RRA polymer mags (which appear to be identical to the Thermold) and steel FAL mags...inch or metric. The Operator is a bit more finicky, sometimes choosing to lock the bolt back with one round left in the magazine on the steel magazines. Haven't run the polymer much in it. At $1,100 BUY IT!! The mag fixes are simple. If you have issues, come back and let us know what they are and we'll walk you through it.
planeflyer21 Posted July 29, 2013 Report Posted July 29, 2013 I'll add that people on this forum have been waiting over a YEAR for their "special order" Rock River LAR-8 rifles. GET IT!!
planeflyer21 Posted July 30, 2013 Report Posted July 30, 2013 Good!! Didn't happen without pics of the new baby!!

sketch Posted August 5, 2013 Report Posted August 5, 2013 Thurmold mags are great. That's a great price did the seller owe you money? Or a baby?? I waited 9 mo. Pics bro shoot straight ! Welcome aboard
GS455 Posted August 11, 2013 Report Posted August 11, 2013 (edited) Would you believe I got mine four months ago and still haven't fired it? Edited August 11, 2013 by GS455
planeflyer21 Posted August 11, 2013 Report Posted August 11, 2013 Took mine out yesterday for some noobs to shoot. BIG HIT!!
Edge Posted August 14, 2013 Report Posted August 14, 2013 I've never had an issue with magazines, unless the magazine itself looks like it came straight from the front line of some forgotten war. Those still work fine in the FAL, but won't in the LAR-8. The newer metric magazines work just fine in the LAR-8.
